The Winter Soldier Georges St-Pierre is Batroc the Leaper

I would rather it showcase Cap's skills against an opponent who is skilled

I agree. I just think the notion of having Batroc "swatted like a fly" is stupid. Batroc/Cap fight has so much potential to be a really awesome fight!!

Why is this even debatable? Chris Evans has already tweeted about how awesome a fight he had with GSP. Not to mention the fact that GSP was cast in the first place...

Batroc is going to be a legit foe.

I don't think he'll be some big villain, he'll be a mercenary and give Cap a good fight. He will obviously lose in the end, but isn't the same as being portrayed as bungling idiot like you suggest.

When has Batroc ever been a legitimate threat to Captain America? He's at best a minor nuisance.

Will you please just give it up dude? Batroc is going to give Cap a good fight. End of story. If you don't like it than boo hoo for you.

New age comics don't count. They tend to grossly misrepresent minor characters as old as Batroc. If you're going to use something as evidence then pull out a comic that is representative of the way the character was originally conceived to be, ie his first appearance in Tales of Suspense.

My thing is why hire someone with extensive fighting background when he's not even gonna put up a fight. They could have just hired any random dude who looked the part. Instead they hired someone who knows how to fight that says something to me.

That's like getting Parkour specialist Sebastien Foucan for Casino Royale only for Bond to push him off the building site to his death before there's even any Parkour chase. What a let down that would be.

Or maybe like making an Avengers movie where Nick Fury kills Loki in the first five minutes so that there's no alien invasion and no need for any superhero teamup.

So he'll be in one sequence, have some fancy pants moves and ultimately get smashed and dispatched by Cap quickly.

That wasn't exactly a big role for Sebastien Foucan, and he didn't even have any speaking lines either.

No one is saying he's going to have a huge role, just saying that he should still be a threat since they went through the trouble of getting GSP

But he still did the stuff he was hired for and didn't just meet a premature demise in the way you've suggested for GSP. We've already compared Batroc's role to that of Foucan's in Casino Royale before. If Foucan was hired, everyone would be expecting there to be a parkour sequence. If there weren't, people would be pissed as there's a certain expectation that comes with the likes of him, or GSP.

If there wasnt going to be a decent fight with Batroc, then they would have just used a no name thug to get punched in the face, instead they hired George St. Pierre who is obviously a very skilled and popular MMA fighter, why wouldnt they take advantage of that and have a cool fight with him? It only makes sense.

Mind, I do hope its clearly still an *uneven* fight, with Batroc using extraordinary skill to make up for a gaping physical deficit. My preferred vision would be Batroc flattened by one solid punch. . . that Steve only lands after an extended fight where Batroc dodges and evades everything Steve tries to do, while constantly knocking him around and off balance.

Yes, it's quite obvious that they will make a proper fight scene of it when they cast GSP in the role. Of course the character won't be a big threat since GSP is not an actor, but he will hardly be nothing but a joke.

Get ready for 25 minutes of GSP laying on Cap, just like all his fights :p

Probably old news but back in April GSP confirmed that Marvel had asked him to grow his hair out and cultivate a bit of the ol' facial fuzz.

So at this stage we can at least be confident that Batroc will have a beard.

I'm guessing Batroc is just some opening "mission" Cap is sent on to start the film. I don't expect him to last very long. Much of the movie is going to be dedicated to Steve being reacclimated into society (forging a friendship with The Falcon), then going on the run from SHIELD, and also having to face his past in Bucky.

In the old school Kirby comics of Captain America it is shown that Batroc is more than a match for Captain America. He is like Batman. A highly trained assassin who is equal to Captain America in skill, and strangth. Because Captain America isn't super human, he is a human pushed to the limits of strength and what not. So its almost like Batroc is the same only got there without the Super Soldier Serum.
So I can see him being, not the main villain, but an assassin/henchmen that Captain America has to stop.
In the comics its also established that he doesn't agree with his bosses, just does things for money. Doesn't exactly care what the outcome is.

Ya, because throwing a guy with one hand over a tank like we've seen is "peak" human. Captain America stretches that label quite a bit. I don't see how a guy could train himself to be anything close to that. Something tells me they're not going to put a guy like Batroc on his level in this movie given he's more than likely a second tier baddy in the scheme of things.
