Gerard Butler Returning for 'London Has Fallen'

"These chinks have kidnapped the president!"

For those who have seen it: without spoilers can you give me examples of how the film is at least kinda racist

With all its faults, the film didn't strike me as racist. There is the already infamous line Butler utters to one of his victims, but I can't think of anything beyond that.

It's a way Butler refers to the home country of one of the terrorists.

Hmmm idk might see this sometime this week. I doubt I'll be bothered by the "jingoism" or whatever

Are racist undertones in action films a new thing all of a sudden? True Lies was a glorified minstrel show.

Jimmy Kimmel said:
Ladycariad: Does Gerard Butler have a massive student loan or something? Is that why he keeps making all these sh** films?

Butler: No, I don't have a student loan. I just do all these sh** films.

:woot:

So does the movie have good stuntwork and action? That's all I care about. Did people forget the villains of the 1st movie we're South Koreans?

The action is okay. A lot of CGI blood.

I don't know that "action movies have always been kind of jingnostic/racist" is really an excuse to keep doing it NOW! And at least James Cameron had one of the two most prominent members of Arnold's team be an Arab/Muslim agent.

Does this movie even have that much?

One of the MI-6 agents at the safe house is Muslim or possibly Arab. He also could've been Indian, not sure.

I've not seen the film yet. Given British asians are the largest minority group I would guess the guy was probably from a indian/Pakistani background.

Yeah he looked to be Indian/Pakistani descent, but it was a minor character anyway with only like two lines.

So.....whats the verdict, guys? I havent seen it yet but dying to hear feedback. Guilty pleasure action flick like the first one or is it as bad as the critics are saying?

Below average sequel that isn't worth the ticket price.

I can honestly see this as a guilty pleasure action pic for some, but not for full ticket price. As a Redbox or HD VOD rental? Yes. Netflix viewing? Yes.

I don't think the movie is as bad as some people make it to be, but it is definitely weaker than the first one. The action is pretty good(the long take shoot out scene is amazing) but it suffers from the same flaw White House Down did.

^What flaw is that?
Most of the time the presidents in LHF and WHD were given nothing to do and are being a burden to the hero. They specialize in nothing. Anything they do, the heroes do it better. It just makes them look useless especially when they have to work with the hero in the field. In LHF, there is a scene that Eckhart's character is just staying in the subway and has nothing to do but waiting for Butler to finish off all the bad guys and picking him up. I think It would be a lot better if the president can actually defend himself, which LHF shows a bit in the third act but is already too late.

Ah yes, I see. In OHF, they kind of got around that by having President Two Face spend most of the movie tied up in a bunker.
