Ghost Rider 2 In The Works

You know what's weird about this? Cage has said before that he wants the second film to be darker, that Blaze should be in a bad place and drinking instead of eating his jelly beans.

But that doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering how Ghost Rider ends: Blaze ends up accepting his fate, seeing it as a second chance, and rides off with a big ol' smirk on his face because he's this superhero now. Sure, he had to leave Roxanne behind but otherwise, he seems pretty pleased! If he was depressed before that and all he did was eat jelly beans and listen to the Carpenters, then why the hell would he suddenly turn to drink when he has this amazing gift?

Personally, I'm hoping for Ketch to appear and maybe the torch to be passed by the conclusion of the film.

well the boy he's protecting is named Danny....

May the years of running and hiding and fighting have just gotten too much for him and he'd rather drink himself into a stupor to escape it. Maybe the Penance Stare has a reverse effect where he too experiences all the sins of those he judge and he's ready to snap.

Just guesses, I didn't check out the script.

This sounds like a rehash of the same old Mephistopheles/Faust storyline.

Could be that Blaze expected to always be able to control the GR ....when in reality GR is gaining strength and is forcing his way out more often making Blaze's life a living hell. Maybe GR is becoming more uncontrollable and is going after anyone that has sinned...innocent and evil people alike (as it was described in Goyer's original 2001 GR script).
At least I HOPE that is the way they will go with this....

I just read the 2010 draft, but if you've read one of Goyer's '01 drafts, you've basically already read the script for this movie. Details and locations are changed, some names are different, there's less creature stuff and some of the action is more low-key in the new script, but it is pretty much the same thing.

I didn't really like the '01 script, so I wasn't too happy with the '10 script either, especially since some of the coolest stuff got dropped. Hopefully Neveldine/Taylor will punch it up a bit.

As for why Blaze is troubled -
he's been overwhelmed by the amount of evil/darkness in the world. Ghost Rider is completely out of control, never speaks, and actually kills most of the bad guys he comes across.

Interesting...but i agree w/ you Odd...Im not a fan of the 2001 script either. the only thing that really saved it for me was how GR was treated....a vengeful monster that was going after pretty much everybody.
what makes this troubling is the possibility of them dropping things that saved the 1st script ...probably because of money i bet.
this and the fact they are rushing this does not fill me w/ confidence at all...

Did the scene where

[BLACKOUT]Ghost Rider rips the Truck apart with his cauterizing hands[/BLACKOUT] make it in this script you read Oddbob?

What about [BLACKOUT]the coin and the human enemies being charred?[/BLACKOUT]

All of that's still in there.

I don't like GR killing regular people, that was always my biggest problem with how Goyer portrayed him.

I'm not really a Ghost Rider fan, and I didn't like the first movie, but the idea of having 'Danny' rescued by Blaze is a very cool idea, especially if it pays off for a sequel with Danny Ketch taking up the mantle. It could be like the Crow movies, where a new character is bestowed their second chance at life by the Crow spirit. Hopefully the use of the name Danny actually pays off, and isn't just some throwaway nod to the fans, like when Eddie Brock is mentioned in the first Spider-Man movie.

I Love that aspect of it  Not because I want to see regular people die but because it shows the true nature of what we're dealing with. GR is not a happymeal hero, he is an entity, that if not controlled, is heartless and ruthless....sorta like a demon

It just bothers me because burning humans to ash left and right was never GR's go-to style in the comics. Beat 'em up, penance stare, fry their souls, leave them "hollow-eyed shells of the men they once were", but leave their hearts beating.

I'm especially hung up on him not killing people because the Ketch version, with his vow of only killing demons and not humans, was the hero of my childhood, so that's the ideal burned into my brain.

But in his bad days, Zarathos-Blaze did cause a few human deaths (and he's confirmed to be Zarathos in the GR2 script), so it's not completely out of the question. GR taking out criminals like Blade wastes vampires just isn't the GR I'd like to see.

Add to that the underwhelming story/script surrounding the portrayal and I'm pretty down about the whole thing. But I'm hoping Neveldine/Taylor can turn it into something cool anyway.

Nice! Hopefully this means GR will be much more of an anti hero as he was portrayed in the late 70s/early 80s...and at times would actually border on being a villain.

It has a few elements of Vengeance in it. If you remember in the comics Badilino lost control of Vengeance and he was leaving charred bodies behind in the Bronx. Also, Ghost Rider was rather violent to his non-human enemies. He shoved Lilith inside her own womb, ripped the exo skeleton off a Brood Queen, pulled Skinner out of his hide, broke every bone in Scarecrow's body and waited for them to heal so he would never be able to move again, decapitated, ran over countless zombies; ripped the heart out of Jack O Lantern, set it on fire, and put it back into his chest; killed 99 avatars of Lucifer in all kinds of gruesome ways; impaled many villains with his spear and burned Angels to charred crispiness. Ahh the good old days.

Oh, I'm all for excessive violence on non-humans. I wish the movies would live up to some of the great villains and battles from the comics.

This has nothing to do with the movie, but it would have been great to see Skinner return during Aaron's run.

A sequel to a terrible movie that's only being made so quickly to maintain character rights

I'm sure this'll be great

Will the general public even remember the first one? It's been years....

Let the set pics begin. I want to see what the tone of this film is going to be like this time around.

I wonder if they will slightly alter the look of GR and his bike in the movie.

And it's being shot in Romania, no less. Is Sony trying to make this film on a really low budget? Mostly it's DTV movies that shoot in cheap locations like Romania and Bulgaria.

I don't think this movie will win an Oscar, but it's too early to tell if this movie will suck worse than it's predecessor.
