Ghost Rider 2 In The Works

Christopher Lambert? This movie would only be worth watching if he played as Rayden. :awesome:

who's working on the CGI again?

I can only imagine the people who worked on the first movie would work on this one, they already have the technology there so it would surely be cheaper to go with them, I believe it was ILM if memory serves.

if the guys behind Crank and Gamer are doing Ghost Rider 2... I'm there

Ghost Rider needs to be darker and more violent in his execution of the guilty. The effects of his transformation in the first film were cool as hell and the transformation of his bike as well. What the sequel needs is actual demons, not humans with weak powers.Too bad they can't do the Spirits of Vengeance storyline or a team-up with Blade like in the comics.

With a production deadline looming, Sony has partnered with Hyde Park Entertainment as a cofinancier on the 3D “Ghost Rider 2,” with Nicolas Cage in the lead - at a much leaner budget.

The first film in 2007 set up Cage as stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who gives up his soul to be come a vigilante. That film had an estimated budget of $110 million, and grossed $115 million domestically, and a total of $229 million worldwide.

This time Ashok Armitraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment has stepped in to cofinance the project because Sony has so much capital tied up in 'SpiderMan' and 'Men in Black 3' and 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.'

The budget has been cut from $135 million to a leaner $75 million, according to a knowledgeable insider.

(Even Nic Cage had to take a serious haircut to reprise Johnny Blaze, down from his $12 million fee to what one knowledgeable insider said was $7 million. CAA was presumably not very happy.)

Sony had no initial comment.

The production will begin almost immediately, Idris Elba and Ciaran Hinds and Placido Violante are also cast in the film, written David Goyer and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

The film is being produced by Mike deLuca, Avi Arad and Ashok Armitraj.

Hyde Park owns international rights, while Sony will keep domestic distribution rights.

Every time I hear about this movie, the news gets worse.

About the only thing to look forward to anymore is Neveldine and Taylor's direction.

Oh, that ain't even worth Direct to DVD.

Wouldn't it make more sense to sell to Disney. SONY didn't even care enough about the project to fully pay for it.

Give it up SONY stick to what you're good at Spider Man and Men In Black

scaling back the budget on a SFX heavy film? Seems like a piss poor idea to me

the sequel to a terrible movie like GR was a bad idea, but cutting the budget is even worst. some of the sfx from the first weren't that good. So, we know what expecting from GR2... The old Roger Corman method seems to be still working

That's a BIG budget cut and it makes me wonder about the CGI. And it's like the intial budget was THAT big anyway, since the average Hollywood blockbuster will cost you upwards $150 to $200 Million. Not $135.

I have to ask, what is the point Sony? GR is an effects heavy character, and you reduce the budget by this much? As someone who enjoyed the first movie, despite its huge flaws, I was actually looking forward to this sequel improving things, now I'm not looking forward to it at all.

Sony looks to have lost confidence in this movie. The movie is being released in winter time, with a lower budget and a few actors won't be reprising their roles? Sounds more dissapointing everyday.

This is close to a Direct-to-DVD budget. A smaller character like maybe Moon Knight could function ok on that budget, or even Daredevil, but Ghost Rider is really, really FX heavy. I want to see GR on screen, not Johnny Blaze the whole time

Skyline which is a very FX heavy alien invasion/disaster film was supposedly only done for around the $20 million range, and the FX in the trailers do not look cheap at all. Also, remember District 9, that was another smaller budget film great FX.

So I'm sure the FX will look good in the movie.

I guess I'm just worried. The first one wasn't great, so I'm pretty cautious

The only thing that worries me is if the Neveldine/Taylor style of shooting will work for or against the movie. But the movie should end up being pretty insane, though not as insane as it could be if it were an R-rated film.

The thing that worries me is that SONY wasn't willing to fit the bill for this project and had to get it co-financed by Hyde Park Entertainment. Why not get Disney to co-finance it?

Rushing the movie just to keep the rights is just dumb and will show when no one goes to see this trainwreck.

The first movie had multiple production companies, Hyde Park Entertainment coming on board doesn't mean anything.

Colin and Greg Strause, the directors of Skyline, are the founders of Hydraulx Visual Effects. Not surprisingly, that film's special effects are being dealt with in-house. That's why Skyline's budget is so low. The next most expensive thing on the budget would be the RED camera they shot it on.

It's entirely possible Sony Pictures Imageworks can handle the SFX again, and thereby keep the budget low. They made Watchmen, a $130 million R-rated movie, look like it was made for double the cost. But there's a lot of "maybe" to be had in that.
