friends and i were discussing this last week, that unless a movie has no competition in it's second week, the audience will come back.
primarily a movie (such as POTC2) makes it's biggest impression in it's opening week. that being written, i think GR is going to give POTC2 a run for it's money.
look at how much National Treasure made in it's opening week. Nic Cage can really bring in the numbers.
So, it's all good.
Super who?
personaly i dont give a rat's a$$ about superman....was never a fan even as a kid. although i did enjoy the 1st 2 superman movies ...but they never made me want to go out and buy the action figures and i have no desire to buy the dvds. but hey thats just me....
however supes is just gonna win at the BO next year...no doubt about that. Supes has such a long history w/ people its almost a sure bet...especially w/ the hard knocks the US has been recieving lately. i have a feeling that US audiences are looking for a movie hero who isnt treading on the dark side.
im just hoping that at least GR will find an audience big enough to get a sequel greenlit.
Supes may very well be the #1 Summer film. Not sure if it can beat King Kong's totals carrying over from December. Also too many people are doubting X3. It's going to be bigger and better than X2. Everyone here will be calling Ratner God and wanting him to direct every comic book film. That's the way this fan crap starts. It's always hate first, worship later. Hate the unkown. LOL
X-Men has the advantage of coming out in May which is usually the best month for a Summer release. Better than July 4th.
blade shades,
honestly, which comic book movie has had good fan backing from the get-go. to my mind, nothing. i remember even spider-man was getting torn a new one during production, same as SM2. geez, i STILL hear the bad press about it at times.
GR has been no exception. that being written, you wait til it's release. sleeper hit. it will blow everyone away.
i'm not up for boycotting superman returns either. although i no longer read the superman comics, i will still watch it. same deal with x3 (personally i'm waiting to see what vinnie jones looks like as juggernaut).
so, in suming up, GR will be amazing.
and i was on the set with MJS to see them film one scene. a mate of mine was an extra also. wahoo!
I'd say Spiderman and X-Men had a good fan backing as far as them showing up to the box office the first week. Fans can whine all they want on the internet but when the movie comes out...they're still fans and they'll be there. That's why Hulk was so HUGE on opening weekend.
Told you they wouldn't move it to may or "swap dates" with X-men 3.
If they are moving it to July 14th a week after Pirates 2...I think that's a bad idea. But, since it probably has less than half the budget that Pirates 2 does, it will probably do ok.
