"I bought the collectors ediction of the HBO animated Series, Spawn, and in it, Todd McFarlane admits that he had something to do with Jarv getting fired from Marvel because he was trying to push artists and writers to get more control and money from their creations. Can you confirm this Jarv? Do you and Todd still communicate?"

i read something years ago about this, but it was rob liefeld who said it,
( you can still see the interview on comic book resources. )
( here it is. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=182 )
if todd mentioned it as well that's news to me.
however, to set the record straight, no demands were ever made on my part.
if anyone has any story to the contrary, i'd like to hear it, if just for entertainment.
hope that clears that up.
jarv
ps. i never even spoke to rob other than to say hello at conventions.
amazing to me how stries are made.

Very interesting! It may have been that interview then where I read it. I'll have to backtrack and read over the interview with Todd Mcf. Maybe it was Rob now thinking back...not sure anymore.

BTW, your version of Danny Ketch Ghost Rider premiered in Issue 28 of Ghost Rider drawn by T.E. Huat! I dont understand why, but they colored him with Orange Flame instead of the Blue that we are seeing in the previews of Danny Ketch. They also had a nice history of Danny Ketch in the end of the comic book featuring your great art.

I can't wait until the end of this month to pick up Danny Ketch! So whats next for you after this miniseries?

Vengeance Unbound is updated again this month with a new interview with current Ghost Rider writer Jason Aaron! No new reviews yet, but some should be coming soon.

Also, I remember that interview with Rob Leifeld (not McFarlane, as far as I remember) where he talked about getting someone fired off Ghost Rider, though for some reason I think he was talking about Texeira instead of Jarv. It's been a LONG time since I read that interview, though, so I could totally be wrong.

Again, a nice interview Ixnay!

I'm sure CAIN will love that the ORB will be making a return, as well as Son of Satan, and one of my favorite GR villains - The Scarecrow.

Maybe Corpulent will be happy that Dan Ketch is not just a returning character that will just die in the end. Looks like he'll be making a big return in the GR mythos himself.

I just picked up his Scalped Trade and I plan on reading the hell out of that soon as well.

I posted a very quirky question in his Q&Q thread on his forum asking if Steve Rogers will be popping up in Heaven working on Zadkiel's siege forts and JA replied back with a question, "Who says Superheros go to Heaven?"

:woot:

I picked up a copy of Issue 28, and its awesome to say the least.
Blaze and Sarah arrive in Tibet in pursuit of Dan Ketch and find this burned out husk of a SPirit of Vengeance named Nima. Apparently he was fighting invaders in a remote village in Tibet for many years. He was a very old looking person. It looks like all the power was drained from him, similar in fashion to what happenned when Zarathos sucked the essence of Noble in the Midnight Sons story arc (except this left most of the body in tact and not just bones).

Dan Ketch arrives later while JB and Sarah are sleeping and tries to take out Sarah. JB storms into the scene and JB and DK get into a tussle in which Dan Ketch shows some of his new personality, which is pretty arrogant. He calls JB "imbecile" and claims that the powers of GR are a gift ,not a curse. After a few more words, he shows that he can transform into a Spirit of Vengeance, and the story ends right there abruptly. All in all, I'm really getting used to the artwork here. Tan Eng Huat is finally growing on me and I can't wait to see Round 1 of the brawl.
BTW, there is a VERY SPOILERISH preview of Ghost Rider 28 at Wizard that can be seen here (It also includes the 1st pic o Dan Ketch's SOV)

What did you guys think?

Dammit, I was only able to get two copies of the Danny Ketch Variant cover of issue 28, and none of Blaze's cover. I really hate the local shops here.

I'd first like to comment on Huats art, as I was one of the few who actuallly was dissapointed by his entry as the staple GR artist. Same as you MS, his art's growing on me aswell. Dunno if its just me, but it seems his lines are getting thicker, while his exagerations are improving aswell. I'm almost getting that same feel I felt when Boschi took the reigns; "This art's perfect for the tone of the book!" (Yes, Boschi's art had even thinner lines and was also exagerated, but it just seemlessly fit for me).

About the content (SPOILER ALERT), this is the first time I felt this excited and thrilled eversince Aaron started his run. I've loved everything Jason's contributed to the book thus far, but this issue, #28, is off the charts! I was just so engrossed by the story telling on this one: An introduction to one of the many GR's, plus a disclosure that GR's are tailor fitted for each country/ region and religion (way cool); A little delving into the partnership of Blaze and Sara, and a show of some sexual tension between the two (inevitable); Dan's entry and show of how callous and insensitive he has become; just to name a few.

I also particularly liked the Nima character. For that short period of time that we got to know the character, I actually felt for him. There was just this endearing quality in his persona. Perhaps it was the whole "humble old vagrant" thing compounded with his drive for justice, his apparent good nature, or maybe the docile transforming mule. Whatever it is, when the character passed, it kinda made you feel sorry for him, and quite disgruntled at Danny (which I'm sure is what Aaron wanted us to feel).

This issue had much less action compared to the previous ones for sure, but is definitely a more character driven story. And I loved it. What a set up for the storm that is the next issue. :yay:

Nice review Rider!

I think Nima will make a return later because if you look at the cover for #30, the next Rider behind him is carrying Nima's duel-bladed spear. I like the idea that there are other Riders in the world taking care of things that don't fall on the radar. It adds more size and scope to the Ghost Rider universe and endless tales of Riders that can come out of it.

I'd like to know how they've stayed under the radar so long and only a handful of beings knowing of their existance. We all know why Johnny and Danny were well known with all the interaction they've had with other characters, I'm interested to know where they others have been hiding and how.

I like how the story is progressing, really am, and I like how things are slowly coming together and might actually make some sense one day.

I just really don't like the art. Nima's design was good, though.

cool piece w/ simon spurrier at

OK so Danny's finally back! Well at least in name.

Danny's back and he finally got rid of the curse with the help of a friend known as Mary who seperated the Spirit of Vengeance from his body. Two years later (about the same time Blaze got repossessed by the Ghost Rider), he realizes he can't live without it and has not been able to get his life back together. For a brief time later in the comic he is able to transform into Ghost Rider (yet he's in control this time) but the Ghost Rider is missing the fire, and the Penance stare. Then just as quickly as he transformed he is human again and surrounded by Punks ready to blow him away. The whole time, a carrion bird is talking to him about his powers, and Verminus Rex hisses in the background, which looks like he will be playing a role in the future. So what happenned to Noble Kale? That has yet to be mentioned.

Its too early into the arc to see where this story is going but we can see that Dan is being reintroduced to the powers of Ghost Rider, slowly...almost like a drug addict getting a little to get him by for the day...The only problem is that DK was never in control when the SOV had possessed his body fully, he was sent into the Void. Is Simon going to explain this? What happenned to the Void??

The art is Javiar and Tom Palmer again (from the first year of GR with Way) and the great colors of Dan Brown, who unfortunately hasn't been seen in GR since Boschi left. Great job Jarv on the look of the comic, I'm still wishing you were back under Jason Aaron!

I think it would have been better if they added that little timeline of Danny Ketch they had with issue 28 of the ongoing into this comic to give a little background on Danny. Spurrier sets up a little bit (even mentioning how GR skinned a Brood queen) and goes briefly into his convuluted past, but not enough to explain who Dan Ketch was, and there is still no mention to what happenned with his step mother Francis Ketch, Stacy Dolan, Jack D'Aura aka 'Shriker' (who was supposed to be watching Dan Ketch for Caretaker) and other people that were in his life. Hopefully lots of this will be explained as this miniseries goes forward!

Good question about how they stayed under radar, but I guess some of these Riders want to stay hidden. As for Nima, I think its rather easy for him to stay under the radar. Nima lived in the Himalayas, which is a good place to be forgotten. Besides, we can't expect a small village with no elecricity or running water high up in the mountains of Central Asia to have a news crew to report on the action.

Glad to see Danny returning to the fold once again. Curious to see how this arc is going to play out.

Thanks! Come to think of it, yeah, there is a rider there with the same weapon as Nima. "I like the idea that there are other Riders in the world taking care of things that don't fall on the radar. It adds more size and scope to the Ghost Rider universe and endless tales of Riders that can come out of it." - And yeh, so true.

Btw, did anyone here get more confused by the addition of the backstory in the last part of the issue? To me, it just brought up more questions as to how everything's supposed to connect to Aaron's current run.

I think that backstory ending belonged more in Ghost Rider : Danny Ketch than in the ongoing. It was interesting that they tried to make it appear as if Danny Ketch was always in control of the Spirit of Vengeance, but we know thats not true. GR: Danny ketch makes no mention of the "Void" where the host soul goes when the SOV takes over.

There are some points that I think Aaron wants to just glaze over and forget, that might be one of them.

I haven't read GR: DK yet, but from that descirption it seems to completely contradict a huge character trait that lasted the whole 90s series. Hell, it was a part of several important story developments. Or are we all going to ignore Noble Kale. Again.

Wow, those look fantastic, Jarv.

Hey, so, now that the issue's been out for a few days and the spoilers aren't technically spoilers anymore, would anyone mind if I merged this thread into the other Ghost Rider thread?

I don't think Dan's return is really being written for fans of the character, to be honest. Aaron's taking bits and pieces that he likes and revamping them for his own purposes. Which is fine, I suppose, since he's the guy tasked with telling the stories now, but it's pretty clear that Dan's the villain in this particular drama right now. If you're trying to look for the hero that he used to be or for things to be the way you remembered, you'll probably just wind up disappointed.

The Story: The last time we saw Deputy Kowalski, he'd had his hand chopped off and eaten by a crazed cannibal and been Penance Stared by an enraged Johnny Blaze. Now he's back, armed with a hellfire shotgun and gunning for vengeance against the Ghost Rider. And as if that wasn't bad enough, there's also the little matter of the final war for heaven, as Danny Ketch leads the warrior angels of the Black Host against Blaze and his ragtag band of rebels. Is this really the end for the Spirits of Vengeance?

The Story: That Dirty Rotten Rat: confronted at last!
In a labyrinth of astral tunnels, with his mind unraveling and his life collapsing around him, Danny Ketch must risk his very soul to fulfill the tangled task of his Angelic master.
Events race towards their skull-cracking climax, as Saltares and Spurrier serve-up the penultimate verse in the dirge of Danny Ketch…

Also if anyone here had the chance to talk to Howard Mackie on his thread (and most of you have) I have compiled the questions and answers and its hosted on Vengeance Unbound under the interviews.

First, nice work gathering all those questions into one file. I forgot I asked some of those questions. Shame Mackie doesn't post here anymore. At least, not that I've seen.

And issue 31 sound like a good one.

Recently saw Lilith, the Demon Mother, return in the pages of Captain Britain and the MI13. You have to wonder if somehow she'll show up in Ghost Rider one time or another.
