Ghost Rider - The NEW Ongoing, Vol 3 (Possible Spoilers)

Well, there's supposedly a new Caretaker in the next issue, so if I had to guess, I'd guess that the current Caretaker's role is, above all else, short. :o

I didn't really enjoy the last issue. Too much Dan-hating all around. Hey, fans of the '90s Ghost Rider, guess what? Turns out your character meant nothing 'cause he was an accident! Just a demonic aberration with delusions of grandeur. Bleh.

I'll stick with the series through the end of the current arc in the hopes that Aaron has something better in mind for Dan than turning him into an angsty, cookie-cutter villain, but I'm not too hopeful at this point.

I feel your pain about DK Corpulent. If you see Jarv's Deviant artwork panel, you can see that DK is going through some tough times. Also, I agree that Caretakers run is short..I just recalled the synopsis of the next issue in which a "new" Caretaker is revealed.

I get the feeling Aaron's setting Dan up for a villain-to-hero-to-corpse arc, just to get him out of the way for '90s stragglers like me.

Lets hope not...if he does I hope he at least leaves the ending open for a chance to revitalize the character later.

Hey Jarv, if you're reading this I saw your storyboard panels for the Ghost Rider movie.

Your panels really captured the spirit of the Ghost Rider I knew and loved, and I hope now that Marvel has its own Studio they can reclaim Ghost Rider from Sony and hopefully they will include you in the conceptual design of any future Ghost Rider movies.

BTW, your Deviant Art Gallery is awesome. I loved your style for Conan!

If he does, I lose all faith. Coz honestly then what was the point of bringing the character back at all then?

Yeah, but the '70s fans are old, so who cares? ;)

Indeed. Just as no one's gonna care what the 90's fans feel over the years.

Face it. Aaron and Marvel made it perfectly clear that this book's main targets are fresh new fans, same as what they did when launching Vol. 2 all those years ago. Old returning characters are bound to be given new twists, new roles. Look how different Johnny Blaze turned out when they brought HIM back in DK's run!

Bottomline, you 90's stragglers are given only 2 choices: Either become open to changes, or rot. And if its the latter one? Well boo-hoos. All your whinings about "This ain't the GR I grew up with!" are just falling to deaf ears.

Don't get me wrong, I like Aaron's run. It's the best thing that has happenned to Ghost Rider since Howard Mackie.

However, there's a difference between being open to new ideas and story twists vs having a 90s icon ***** on and then killed. If Corpulent's suspicion is correct, that would be a huge dissapointment.

So who's saying Ketch IS gonna kick the bucket anytime soon? And as far as killing him off goes, only the 90's boys would actually care that much...

That story was about how Ghost Rider came into being as an entity. The story describing the hosts and who should have been possessed by Noble Kale's spirit was told in the Flashback issue, Ghost Rider #-1.

Oh ok! There it is!

Geez, you put a winking smiley and everything and people still don't get that you're kidding. Gotta love the internets.

For the record, I'm well aware of my options when it comes to accepting Dan's new status quo or moving on. I'll probably choose the latter if he stays a villain for more than an arc or two, but I'm giving Aaron a chance to actually give Dan a character arc before deciding whether I like the changes he introduced or not. I do remember that Johnny came back and appeared to be a villain in the '90s series before turning into an ally for Dan, so I'm giving Aaron the benefit of the doubt on it. I'm just saying that based on what I've seen so far, I don't know if I like the direction they're taking Dan in. The worst part of it is the allusion Aaron or Spurrier or someone made to Dan being essentially a magic addict looking to Zadkiel for his next fix. You gotta admit, they never brought Johnny quite that low in the '90s.

just read #26..it was a nice read...but blackout and death ninja looked...wierd. Why in the world would danny team up with arch villians to kill caretaker...wtf in going on here?

I'm dropping GR. I've decided it's not really worth it just to see Danny dragged through the mud. I understand that Johnny's the Ghost Rider again and the story's moving forward, but I'm not really interested in it (hence why I only started reading it when Danny returned). I'm content to leave Ghost Rider to the Johnny fans.

Well, that's a shame. And I'm sorry to hear that you're not willing to give this book a chance to grow on you, but like Aaron said:

"The main goals here are to tell exciting new stories, to take these characters somewhere they haven't been before, and to bring in the Flamehead fans of the future."

So that's that. Though in my case, I'll always love JB more than DK. And the fact that here is a writer who seems talented+passionate enough to try n' reach GR books to a whole new generation put's a warm smile to this old fan. :yay:

Yeah, which is fine. It's just too bad the place Dan hasn't been before is magic-druggy-villaindom.

Yes, that is quite sad. Although hey, we've barely even started with this arc yet; not even a real clue what mindset DK's in right now. And Aaron did promise a lot of good tidings for the future! So please, at least try an keep in touch with what's happening. You never know, one of these stories might just be enough to pull you back to readerdom. :cwink:

Yeah, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for Dan, but all I'm seeing right now is stuff about Dan and Johnny fighting and how far Dan's fallen and how magic became like a drug to Dan after losing his Ghost Rider-ness. I'll give it another try if Dan stops being a villain and becomes a supporting cast member, like Johnny did in Dan's comic.

Damn, from the looks of it, I really need to get issue 26 already. Although, I'm not all too thrilled with the current direction of the comic (more for the art than anything else), I'm interested in seeing where Aaron is taking it.

WELCOME BACK CAIN!
Oh and thanks for the link.

:ghost:

SUN! :woot: Damn, I missed u man! Haven't been able to contact u guys since the GR boards got nuked.

So, did you see that cool sample page yet? The one showing what appears to be a small gathering of Ghost Riders, including Vengeance (plus Daimon Hellstrom???).

What's your take on the mysterious, big dude on the upper left-most corner (near Hellstrom)? Most of his features are overshadowed, but I can see he's wearing some kind of helmet & has blue skin (although this may just be due to the pic's "lightening"); doesn't look familiar to me.

Do you suppose it might be......Zadkiel?

I did see the sample page and it looks like they are trying to branch out the Spirits of Vengeance into whole new territories. Some of them I can recall.

The one in the center is Noble Kale as Ruler of Hell. The one to his left is a guy with a Pilots helmet on..they showed him in Trail of Tears that Garth Ennis wrote and it was hinted that Marvel would like to do a WWII inspired Ghost Rider...not sure how he fits in that picture though. OK, for the others...The one to Ruler of Hell GR's right is a nun-chuk wielding Ghost Rider that is new. The three directly below appear to be Danny Ketch transforming to Ghost Rider for the 1st time (I remember that panel from #1 of the 90s run). The other character is clearly Vengeance and the one below...looks like an old school Pontiac Firebird Hellfired up.

OK now to get to the top portion. The two that are easy to identify is Johnny Blaze/Zarathos and Daimon Hellstrom. The other 2..I can't really identify. Not sure about the mustached fellow who is laughing hysterically. The guy on the upper left panel is somebody new for sure. At first the portion above his eyes reminded me of Centurious in the 90s run...but i can tell now that it runs all the way across the side of his head (like Magneto or Onslaught). His helmet is a little goofy looking with the chin strap...also note the upper right hand corner of that sample page...I can't tell what that blue streak is..but might be a wing...my guess is a new Ghost rider foe. I don't think Zadkiel wears a helmet..for someone as powerful as he is, he wouldn't need one.

Doghead and Death Ninja just seems so out of left field for issue 26.

I can understand Blackout and the Orb, but Doghead and Death Ninja... it just bothers me. Just seems like a pointless way to appease the fans of the 90s series for an issue and to get rid of them from any future issues at the same time. I would have just prefered to have never seen them again.

What next, Meatmarket? Suicide? Hag and Troll? Deathwatch is still kicking last I read, might as well throw them in as well and have a nice reunion.
