GI Joe movie thoughts

who's colton?

General Colton. Comicverse character. The original G.I.Joe. His codename, actually. First appeared in, what, #127 of Marvel's run if memory serves correctly?

Hawk gets shot in the back by Commander Cobra and loses the use of his legs. Colton is his replacement.

Read DDP's comicbooks. It's just sick how Duke has become a bada$$ powerhouse and yet he's still, what, E-8? Going over Hawk and Colton's heads and having authorization codes that 5 to 10 people in the country have? Roxor. :woot:

Honestly, if you've read those, I just don't get how you wouldn't want to include him in a flick. :woot:

Who said they they didn't want Duke in a film if it were made?

While I did use an impersonal 'you', it was an answer to your 'Possibly Duke' comment for you own movie/script/series/whatever. :cwink:

That was for the 'core' group of characters. Duke will be in MY script and in a major wa t he may not be the focal pont.

Everyone thinks Duke needs to be the main character, maybe thats why it is not getting made.

It is possible for an E-8 to have authorization for things that higher ranking members do not. It is a matter of getting qualifications and being in the longest, although the latter likely does not apply here. If Duke had more years in than Hawk and Colton it is very possible for him to have access to things they do not.

you may have it there

Glad you agree. So if not Duke then who? Snake Eyes? Flint? Those are really the only options and since Snake Eyes doesn't speak it is highly unlikely to make him the main character. That leaves Flint. Should Flint be the main character?

I have a better idea.

I think you need to make this literally what it began as...a small strike force that takes on tasks that the army cant...a quick and mobile strike force unit, syupported by the other branches of the army in bigger fights. I have my ideas of how the first film should be handled...and Id probably have about 20 Joes total in it (half of them die before the actual GI Joe team is formed).

The small strike force should/could/would be in my script still but their would still be another group. A secret group.

The strike force would likely be: Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Roadblock, Flint, and any of a group of others(Gung Ho, Stalker, Lady Jaye, or Wild Bill, etc..)

The secret group would have six members also.

Why have a secret GI Joe in GI Joe?? I just dont recall anything like that...unless you're alluding to the Eco-warriors, Battleforce 2000 or Ninja Force...and by golly...I hope you're not.

why not? maybe he means the gi joe adventure team

GI Joe IS an adventure team

I think that my issue with this is...youre talking about the FIRST GI Joe movie, and youre already talking about sub-groups in the team, and ancillary characters liek Shipwreck being main stars...thats sequel stuff. I would much prefer a straight up war story...especially in light of our real world situation...heres a home grown terrorist group that wants to overthrow the US government...we cant go to Iraq or Iran to battle this threat...because its ALREADY in our backyard...because of that we cant have a massive group destroying cities. This movie needs a small group, basic infantry types and not a whole lot of sub-plots like secret factions of what is essentially a brand new part of the US armed forces. You'd hint on Snake-Eyes having a secret history...that you can delve into in a sequel.

The secret group would have ties to a global conspiracy involving the ruling elite that supercedes even the president. This secret group in G.I. Joe would be the foot soldiers for these rulers of the globe. It is very similar to the plot that develops in Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, a video game being adapted into a motion picture.

Wait a second...so its the first movie and you're ALREADY having a group of traitors??? Sound like Judge Dredd to me. Sorry, but I hate that idea. You use the first movie to establish exactly what GI Joe is, then deal with deconstructing it later. I like the concept of traitors in the high ranks, just not for the first film. You have to be iconic in the first film. having half the team be traitors right off the bat would weaken the concept.

The secret organization is not planned on being revealed until at least the 5th or 6th screenplay. I too have the first movie as an introduction to G.I. Joe.

After thinking about it some, that could actually play into what I believe in my heart and soul should be the plot of the first film. As long as you orchestrated it perfectly early on so that there was no one guessing about the heel turn in part one that wouldnt be revealed until part 4 or whatever...

No of course not. There will be know hints to a conspiracy or an 'inner circle' whatsoever. It should be in it though.

Just as long as it's not as cheesy as the old school X-files inner circle and this one might just work. :woot:

It is not going to be 'supernatural' in any way. Like I said, an inner circle conspiracy similar to that in Metal Gear Solid 2:Substance.

I meant more the 'cloak and dagger / bad guys MUST smoke and look like crazy old coots' angle. :woot:
