From the trailers and the great actors involved, I was thinking that the human characters would be the best part. Especially since it was looking like they'd be the focus.

I wonder if some are disappointed that Bryan Cranston wasn't in the film more?

Well lets not write off the movie yet. It still has a good RT score and it's not even out yet.

But ARE the characters the weakest aspect?

That's probably a matter of opinion really. That clip alone of Joe Brody being questioned shows acting & writing qualities that aren't usually witnessed in blockbusters. It's only a clip yeah, and some of the other tidbits of character stuff look good, it's probably that ultimately, it will focus on the MUTOs, Godzilla & the destruction aspect.

Boy, this is the TASM2 threads all over again. Or any other movie's come release time, for that matter. This and TASM2 are the first movies in which I've stayed tuned for reviews and fan reactions and stuff... usually I completely skip this part. For good reason. :oldrazz:

This doesn't seem to be getting the same ammount of negativity Amazing Spider-Man 2 got, i just hope this film is more like the 89 Batman, which also had insane hype and was going to be a cinematic event, but got a mixed reaction by the critics.

Basically its not very fun. That seems to be the downful. Same nonsensical issue critics had with MoS.

well that's a good thing, imo.

this is supposed to be a more serious take on the monster movie. imagining how the world would react if said monsters really existed.

Unfortunately all these clips are misleading.

Thing is, it's not as serious or grave as the original. It's more serious than say the Roland Emmerich abomination though.

well, I'll find out next week when I see it.

I think when people say it's not fun its because the movie does a really great job of building up to these big fights and then Lucy pulls the football away right as Charlie Brown is about to punt. So by the time the fights finally do happen, the movie has already let you down in a big way, twice.

I think right now fans are too caught up in the "This is the Hollywood Godzilla movie I always wanted hype" before they are brought back down to earth. Fans are being overprotective and not willing to accept that while yes this movie is good, it is also flawed.

I mean I like Man of Steel as well, but it's still a very flawed movie.

Were the Mutos a good part of the film? From the trailers it seemed to me like the film would be more interesting if it only had Godzilla as the main monster.

That's very discouraging and in line with other things I've read regarding it cutting out at the good parts. I don't know if it was budget or pacing but that's just plain not cool.

I never do base anything much on early reviews other than certain aspects that mean a lot to me such as good character work. The only reason I'm a little shocked is that even the good reviews complain that Taylor is wooden and the acting is less than stellar from great actors.

I'm still just as excited as I was but I may admit maybe I let the trailers influence what I thought the film would be too much.

I hesitate to call the antagonist creatures MUTO. In this universe, MUTO is basically the catchall term for kaiju.

In the Awakening graphic novel, there are different antagonist creatures that are also called MUTO. They get a different name, specific name other than MUTO though.

But yes, the antagonist MUTO are good. I like their abilities.

This is generally why I stopped watching trailers. Expectations rise due to the random sequencing of events coupled with the right music at the right time. When you finally watch the movie, it barely resembles your assumptions from the trailer. Now this isn't the case all the time, but I'd rather avoid a trailer and go in blind than have a movie underwhelm me.

Going by what Edwards said, he wanted to save everything until the final act and didn't want to get too caught up in just throwing lots of visuals at once. He described it as not wanting to be "seduced" by the temptations of the CGI and visual effects.

So if you believe him, he was coming from an arguably noble and sensible place from his perspective...I just differ on his view and how he decided to execute it.

How mixed has it really been though? People on here are way over stating how negative the response has been.

See that's what is always confusing to me. Apparently the people that make the trailers know what an audience wants out of a movie. They are also really good at editing and sequencing to get a point and story across.

Why not just let those folks make the movies?

hahaha

Sounds like it was a choice I just don't agree with then. As I said a few pages back, I hate being teased. It's one thing to tease Godzilla himself but to tease actual set pieces and not deliver on them, sounds incredibly frustrating to watch.

Exactly, it was a personal choice for him. But I agree with you, and I think a lot of casual moviegoers are going to feel the same way and will get upset about it.

I think it's a valid complaint. This isn't really the movie this was sold. It's not "The Terror of Godzilla" and there is a sort of disconnect with the destruction throughout the movie.

I think you need to not be so sensitive, especially considering you haven't seen the movie yet.

 Whose being sensitive?

I'm not talking like I've seen the movie. I'm simply commenting about the trend people follow of letting every little critique make their mind up about a film and ignoring the plethora of good things being said. People act like a few negative reviews means the movies a turd and that there is no way of them liking it. It's ridiculous and it goes for all majorly anticipated films like this. A film could get 10 good reviews is a row and than one bad one comes along and people act like it's it's getting some crazy mixed reaction. As of right now I wouldn't call the reaction mixed at all. It's majorly positive. Not to mention all the good reviews NOT posted on RT.

I was under the impression there was at least three different battle sequences in the film it's saddening to hear that's not the case.
