I saw a mother cover her daughter's eyes due to how brutal that final fight was. But I think they'll dig it. Again, a lot of the audience I was with weren't all that familiar with Godzilla and they cheered/clapped at the right moments. Kids were a little bit scared, though.

Would you say the Spielberg comparisons some critics have been bringing up are about right?

It's exciting to hear more about Godzilla and about how it doesn't play its cards too soon.
 
Nolan, are there any hints/easter eggs in regards to other Toho monsters?

Seriously, that final battle had to be among the most satisfying I've ever seen in a film. It's big, it's grand, it's brutal, it's everything you could possibly want in an American produced, big budget Godzilla film featuring other monsters. You can totally see the Komodo Dragon/Bear influence.


BTW, the audience I was watching it with was mostly made up of Godzilla 'noobs' and they were eating it up the whole time!

They're just Easter eggs and probably won't lead to much, but
there's definitely a Mothra Easter egg and possibly a Biollante Easter egg.

I'm glad this getting good reviews and it's especially good to see Nolan rated it so high. Can't wait to see it Thursday
 
I'm confused. A lot of people are saying the human interaction isn't great and really mostly just exposition. But then G doesn't show up til an hour in. Not that I want it to be 2 hrs of just cartoon violence, but does it hold your attention well enough when G isn't on screen? Or does the last half hour leave you on such a high that you don't mind the first hour being slower?
 
They gave GINO a C+. Something tells me this one is a lot better than that.
 
I think arguing or disagreeing with the critics before seeing a film is weird.
 
TBH, I thought they would give Godzilla 2014 a scathing review. I don't know why, I just did.

Samnee, was your previous post directed towards me? Because I for one did really like the human characters and their dilemmas, even if they don't ultimately play into the finale of the film as much. Dr. Serizawa and Joe Brody were my personal favorite characters and I thought Bryan Cranston gave the best performance of the film.
 
Hearing that Nolan just made me even more confident I'm going to love this movie I have high hopes even more so now after hearing your thoughts!
 
I will say that if Ken Watanabe's Dr. Serizawa in this movie was called Dr. Yamane, there would be no difference. Not a bad thing though. He has Serizawa's world weariness, but the actual character is very much like Yamane.
 
If this movie doesn't have a 110% score on RT, then all of the critics in the world are idiots.

NO ONE DENIES THIS.

but at the end of the movie, he's sorta deemed a 'hero.' Think Superman in Man of Steel, Gamera in the 90s Gamera trilogy, and Mothra in the original Mothra film. I actually liked it that way.
