Just watched it. I thought it was very good, I love to see the mobilization of armed forces and that was done very well in this film, the fleet, the transport of assets, airplanes flying over the cities, etc... they also handled very well how they showed the monsters, a lot of times you could just glimpse them for a moment, and that added to the overall experience.

The only thing underwhelming were the fights. It not even close to what we saw in Pacific Rim for example, yet, there were three moments that were worth a tear of joy.

Do we see any of the first and second fight at all?

First fight, yes. But not in the way you would probably want. You see glimpses of it when ATJ and Olsen's son is watching it on TV.

Second fight, not really. But I personally don't see that as big of a deal because it was more like the start of the climax. It cuts right when MUTO and Godzilla are about to go at it.

Sounds like you're writing off the film before seeing it? Go watch it first and form your own opinion, obviously it's not a disappointment to everyone.

No, i'm not writing before seeing it, i do plan to watch it of course, it was my most hyped film of the year. What i'm saying is that i'm disapointed to see that so many are being disapointed with it.

Either way, both the 98 Zilla and this one have some brilliant marketing. I think it's actually a shame that the new one didn't incorporate some of the ideas done in the previous film with signs saying things like "his head is bigger than this"

Godzilla is already a major hit with critics, and it's gearing up to be a massive hit with audiences. As you can see in the above infographic from the online movie ticket vendor, Fandango, Godzilla is the most anticipated film in theaters this weekend. But that's just the tip of the iceberg on this monster movie's growing momentum.

Fandango has revealed that Godzilla has proven a major draw to their customers. Already tickets for Godzilla represent more than 80% of the sites sales for this weekend. The reboot from director Gareth Edwards is currently outpacing sales for such much-anticipated tent poles as Thor: The Dark World, World War Z, Prometheus, and Pacific Rim, at similar times in their own respective countdowns to opening. All this has Fandango predicting that Godzilla will be the biggest opening for a monster movie the site has seen in its 14 years of existence.

What's drawing in so many to see Godzilla on its opening weekend? Fandango polled over one thousand ticket-buyers on this very topic, and here's what they saw as the film's biggest selling points:

• 95% say it will be the first Godzilla movie they’ll see on the big screen

• 76% plan to see the movie with a group of friends

• 74% grew up watching Godzilla movies at home

• 61% said that Bryan Cranston has made them more excited to see the movie

Just watched it in a near-full theater!

To put it simply, this is a very good summer blockbuster and an excellent Godzilla film.

Pros:
-Cranston!
-Once the first act nears it's end, the film becomes an almost non-stop thrill ride. Seriously, great pacing IMO.
-Godzilla and the MUTOs are beautiful. Just beautiful. Their movements and behaviors spoke volumes about the work put into giving these CG creations life. Practically every moment of Godzilla's screen time makes an impact, and the MUTOS get a good amount of screen time. Quite surprised at that honestly.
-I was thinking, based on reading other reviews, that Cranston was the only good actor in this film. Actually, the rest of the cast actually is solid on their own terms. (I was only disappointed in Sally Hawkins)
-That tension. The teases and build up worked great for me!
-The visuals and cinematography are worthy of seeing in the best theater possible.

Cons:
-More Cranston and Godzilla wouldn't have hurt at all!
-Human drama in the second and third acts weren't exactly things to be proud of.
-Finale could have been a bit longer, but I was very pleased with what we got.

Solid A-/A from me :)

And for crowd reactions:
You could actually hear people gasp and go "Wow" at the money shots!
Especially the Godzilla reveal and the nuclear fire attacks! :)
I could actually hear some sounds of shock/surprise in an important dramatic moment involving Cranston.

Friends' reactions:
"Boring." (She loved TASM 2 and absolutely disliked the Winter Soldier)
"7/10"-He watched '98 Godzilla I think?
"Godzilla is my new favorite superhero."-First Godzilla film for this guy.
"Godzilla is so cuuuuuuteee!"-Girl who liked this better than '98 film.
My other friends couldn't stop talking about
Godzilla's finishing move on the MUTO
when the film was finished. That moment will seriously get people talking.

My dad, also big on superhero/genre movies, gave this a 9/10.

From my dad and friends, no complaints at all about too little Godzilla/monsters. No complaints too with the
fight teases
though a friend was surprised the second time it happened on screen.

I am in the theater now waiting for the 7:30pm showing to start, it's a half way packed house.

Heh, I was wondering about when your review would come out. Glad to see you loved it. :woot:

I would have thought the less is more approach would have been apt for a film like this. Kind of like Jaws, where we didn't and didn't need to see the creature every 5 minutes. It's all about the power and impact of the mythological presence that has people sh(tting their pants.

I think the "too much teasing" complaint is apt, though it wasn't a problem for me. If anything, the only nitpicks/criticisms I would have are some....."surprise" editing choices and how the humans don't really add much to the finale.

The teasing was a bit frustrating for me, but I felt what we got in the finale more than made up for it. DAT FINISHING MOVE.

Also, this movie was gorgeous.

So.....your "**** the whiners/ten :o" score is how you feel? :o:oldrazz:

I see. Well, I'm watching this tomorrow and I'm going in with moderate expectations. I'm not a diehard Godzilla fan so at the very least I just want to be entertained.

I feel like I have ripped on this movie a lot but I did enjoy it overall. Just thought that it had the potential to be much better. I will list some sequences in the movie that I thought were great...

-Destruction at the airport, seen through the terminal window that pans onto Godzilla's foot.

-The jets falling out of the sky onto bay area.

-HALO jump, if you've seen the trailer its obvious why.

-Atomic breath, having the final brawl at night really enhanced it.

Probably a few more but those really stick out at the moment.

We're brothers, I know you better than you know yourself. :o

I do have only have a few qualms but mainly it's that I would've liked to see more substantial materials for the cast to sink their teeth into, what they've got to work with is good but towards the end they felt like they're going through the motions, a bit shame considering I was really hooked in the first act, they've got the foundation right but the execution left a bit to be desired. I feel like I'm coming off a bit harshly but I really enjoyed the film and I can't find anything wrong with this Godzilla, he's perfect and the film overall pretty much tick off what you'd expect from a blockbuster, it's a thrilling ride filled with fantastic visuals and towards the end a few moments of "Godzilla straight up owning", all this while still honoring what comes before (minus Gino), in the big picture there's little to complain and you can't fault them for their aspirations but it's just frustrating that they have so much right that there's parts I felt could've been improved, just that little extra kick. 3/5

Turn off your phone you *******!

:D

I'm jealous. :(
