To be fair, it could be argued that using the breath really wears him down, which is why he only uses it as a last resort. Especially considering what happens to him after he uses it the second time. And if that is the case, I'd rather have it shown the way it was in the movie depending on the audience to figure it out, rather than Dr. Exposi...er Serizawa explain it.
There is absolutely no indication of this whatsoever. Godzilla was already hurting. The strongest he looked was when he used it actually.

Bryan Cranston pumps this film full of heart in the first act ....... and then it goes on life support [BLACKOUT]after he dies[/BLACKOUT].

The whole 2nd act is literally mindlessness as Aaron Taylor-Johnson is conveniently whisked around the globe, ultimately to end up as a cheap plot device. Other issues I had:

- Elizabeth Olsen's character could've been cut out completely and it wouldn't have affected the movie one bit
- I think a piece of dead wood would've played a better military captain than Richard T. Jones
- They spent too much time building up the MUTOS backstories and only glossed over Godzilla's, basically rendering it down to a blurt by Ken Watanabe's character
- The fight sequences lacked any creativity

I give Gareth Edwards credit for not gratuitously flooding us with Godzilla .... but man did he make some strange editing choices by cutting away from the fights three times early in the movie. It lessened the impact and the end result was comedic. They should've just not fought at all until the third act IMO. By the way the score was absolutely dreadful. It was too the point where it was taking me out of the movie because it was so cheesy and distracting.

This movie seems like something that was pumped out quickly in order to preserve character rights.
I forgot about that, and yeah I agree. I was distracted by the score more then anything. And completely agree on the false confrontations. I liked the first one with the kid watching television, but after that it was getting eyerolling bad.

I agree with all of this

look. Godzilla is marmite.
Some people like it. Some people don't.

I dont get how one could not like the score. It was fantastic - best part were the small beats where you could hear inspiration from the original theme, but still sounded original. Easily the best part of the movie.

The score was killing me man .... I really can't say it enough. I absolutely couldn't stand it.

We must've listened to two very different scores. This one undercut the intensity and stakes of everything going on, especially in the end. It was Saturday morning cartoon worthy.

Mate, the score was awful! I think they were aiming for a retro monster movie vibe but managed to hit cheesey full on.

I think that's what they were going for, but it was a very poor decision. I understand the point of paying homage, but those were different times and it doesn't work with a film like this.

The score was unbelievably jarring. Agree with all of these.

It was just so odd. It wasn't beautiful, elegant or serving the imagery. It was harsh and distracting. I didn't quit dislike it as much as you, but I completely get where you are coming from here.

Whoa!

BOX OFFICE: ‘Godzilla’ Crushes It: $90M+

I'm sure it's going to have a huge drop second weekend, but that's still a pretty damn impressive opening.

Whoohoo. I am interested in seeing what kind of legs this has compared to Spider-man. Not going to beat DOFP next weekend, but it will be interesting to see if Godzilla takes a bite out of it.

This was much better on a second viewing. Such huge scale in this film. Love how exhausted Godzilla seems at the end. I also want a romcom from the MUTO's pov. This jerk is just getting in their way the whole film.

Godzilla basically is a giant ****block the entire film.

The entire film? I can understand people's frustration with the first two fights cutting away but that last fight was glorious.

I meant in regards to the two MUTOs. A giant ****blocking bully.

GODZILLA, I absolutely loved it! I'll be seeing it again later on tomorrow and again on Sunday. Had a full theater, a lot of people cheered and applauded when made his grand reveal, and a lot during the final third act. It was pretty amazing to see so many people express that kind of reaction. It was an entertaining film, but also a very satisfying Godzilla film. I have some criticisms which I'll express later on once my full review is written out. But generally, I walked out loving the film completely.

I don't understand a desperate need for more of godzilla fighting. There wasn't a whole lot more to add without tiring, imo, the audience.

Anyway, I really loved this movie

On a side note.. i'd hate to see any film where people were "cheering and applauding".. I get pissed off when I can hear folks reaching in for popcorn.

For certain movies I love it when the audience is into it. I love that vibe, mainly for comedies and summer action films.

Move to the UK, we never do anything like that.

I'm from UK... Which makes me mr lucky in the "no-one applauds or cheers during movies" stakes :)

We do however mutter "that was crap" as soon as the credits start to roll...
Which is exactly what I did last night after watching Godzilla.

We don't applaud and cheer in Australia either, kinda pointless if you ask me lol.

So basically what you lot are saying is you have no fun. :funny:
