The only thing I hold against Cloverfield is the monster itself. Just wasn't a good design. The concept designs were better, or, ateast one of them was.

I remember Cloverfield, didn't watch until the end though so maybe I missed the disappointing reveal? I enjoyed the parts I did watch though, I thought it was relatively engaging.

For me, Cloverfield I give props for trying something original. However, I think it could have been done better. For all its originality, the monster looks meh and the movie I don't feel is very rewatchable. I think Godzilla has far more rewatchability.

Well really the reveal of the monster up close was at the very end. Throughout the rest of the film we get brief glimpses here and there. Get a decent view of it's entire body at one point from a helicopter as it's making it's way through the city. The parasites in the subway was pretty awesome and scary.

Also cloverfield is a film that I really did enjoy, but overall would probably have a much better sequel I think. They could do a lot more. Plus the monster we saw was an infant. Leaves it open to us seeing a full grown adult. I dunno I've always wanted a sequel.

For me, Cloverfield felt almost like a cinematic amusement park ride. So far all these other big monster movies or kaiju films don't do that for me. The scene that gets me every time is when they are running on the streets towards the subway then they veer around a corner and you get that epic first shot of it's face. I felt like I was there.

Yeah I can't find a point were it became dull or boring, I was tensed the entire time.

I mentally checked out after Cranston died. Gareth Edwards seemed to want to rely on empty dialogue and doughy-eyed looks from ATJ for almost the rest of the film.

It was crazy because the first act was so good and then the rest was such a let down. The military involvement was painfully bad outside of the cool Halo jump scene.

Yeah I remember the small teases, I thought the characters were relatively well done from what I can remember. It's been a long time though, maybe I'd hate it if I saw it now. When I watched it I didn't know anything about it, it was just on a random channel and I decided to see where it went. Maybe it's better to go into something like that without much preconceived expectations.

Deadline is reporting that we are getting a sequel.

I'll **** rainbows if it gets officially announced soon.

Box Office: 'Godzilla' Opens to Monstrous $93.2 Million in North America
The summer's second tentpole -- likely launching a new Hollywood franchise -- opens to $103 million overseas for a global total of $196.2 million
Pamela McClintock said:
Gareth Edwards' Godzilla debuted to a monstrous $93.2 million from 3,952 theaters at the domestic box office, giving the iconic giant lizard a new lease on life and delivering the second-best opening of the year.

Godzilla, finally launching a Hollywood studio franchise headlined by the giant lizard, is a defining moment for Legendary Pictures, which spearheaded the reboot. Thomas Tull's Legendary financed 75 percent of Godzilla, with Warner Bros. putting up the rest of the money.

"Thomas Tull and his team did an incredible job and have delivered a new franchise," said Warners president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman.

Legendary no longer has a first-look deal with Warners -- it is now Universal's partner -- but the two companies will team on any further Godzilla movies, insiders say, adding that a sequel is already in the works.

"The tone of the movie was effectively communicated through the marketing," said Jon Jashni, Legendary's president and chief creative officer (Legendary and Warners worked on the campaign in tandem). Regarding a sequel, Jashni said Legendary will have to wait and see how this movie holds up.

Ahhh hell yeah dude that scene was pretty great. Agreed you really felt like you're there seeing it in front of you. I should rewatch cloverfield it's been a while. Give them credit with the viral marketing for it too, it was awesome.

Cloverfield is one of the only successful shaky cam/found footage films imo. It's got the biggest scope out of most of them and it's one of the only ones where the situation felt as immersive as they filmmakers intended. It's not the same viewing experience at home, but it's still a damn fun ride with a surprising human core.

I have to agree about the first major shot of the monster in that film. I literally ducked out of the way in the theater it was so effective.

I wish to hell it got a sequel because I felt America finally had it's own Godzilla. Now if they were to do a Godzilla Vs. Cloverfield movie.....:hubba

Haha I ducked too .... and then I thought to myself "Did I really just do that?"

I wish I could see it on the big screen again.

I just watched this. This is the second Godzilla movie I've seen with the other being the 1998 version. That was a childhood favorite of mine. I was pretty hyped for this movie as the marketing was perfect and it just looked like an awesome blockbuster film. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was still a pretty good film. Gareth Edwards' direction mixed in with the great score made scenes very tense. Bryan Cranston was amazing, but I really wish he was in the film more. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was passable, and everyone else did fine too. The action was very cool and the Big G bits were nice. It could have been better, but I will probably give this another viewing.

7.5/10

yes it's called a poster. Doesn't need to be accurate it's just to catch your attention. Regardless he was still ****ing massive and the biggest Zilla to date so.

the sequel needs rodan or king gihdrah

No, thanks to Rodan, we just had a flying monster another would be redundant. King Ghidrah or Destroyah or Mecha-Godzilla would be good, or another original monster. I seen this again today, and still not sure about the quick editing of the monster fights. Couple of things I noticed this time around; the 'Mothra' on the fish tank or whatever it was, and the whole; Godzilla king of the monsters, Savior of our City' on the Jumbotron in the stadium. Not sure I liked that, didn't make sense or at least I guess it felt cheesy.
Any other 'Easter Eggs' that anyone noticed?

I think they'll probably do a Mecha-Godzilla thing in order to have their own weapon in case of other monster attacks, and then it goes haywire like someone else mentioned and then he has to save our asses yet again.
