Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

Can I ask why SB? Not trying to insult, I am geniunely curious. Fallen Kingdom is a really weird movie to me. Like I feel like I should enjoy it Batman vs. Robin style, but I just don't. That I kind of can't stand Pratt at this point probably doesn't help. That and how relentlessly dull I find it, I just can't get the will up to watch it again.

I mean, yeah, there are serious issues with the movie. Two different movies shoved together. Pratt didn't annoy me in this. Not sure why. But, it didn't provoke many negative feelings, I enjoyed the various dinos in action. Its not one that I am actively wanting to watch again, but if its on, I would watch it.

Unlike this movie, which I love. But, I was destined to love it.

I think we see him in GvK.

I highly doubt that. If Mothra Rodan and Ghidorah weren’t niche enough, Destroyah is only going to appeal to The hardcore. We are most likely to see Mecha Godzilla, Mecha Ghidorah, and Mecha Kong on GvKK.

It would be an interesting plot twist if the two initially fight but then team up against Mecha versions of themselves.
If they do go with a Mecha, I think it would be smart to have it kill some of the lesser titans to build up the threat.
While Godzilla and Kong are scrapping, other monsters are turning up dead around the world.

That’s actually a great idea

That reminds of how sad I am that I never was able to get the 4th godzilla novel back in the late 90's.

Do you guys really think they would use Mechagodzilla? I mean... I’m glad they’ve found ways to incorporate some of the whackier elements of Toho’s films (Ghidorah being an alien, the twins being connected to Mothra, Godzilla being a hero), but I Mechagodzilla just feels a tad too silly for what they’re going for here.

The Argo is essentially the Super X. They are not that far from some of the more outlandish tech.

Why 'Shin Godzilla' Is Vastly Superior To 'Godzilla: King Of The Monsters'

In reading this article it seems as though they want to keep Godzilla a force of nature and basically evil. I honestly can see it both ways. While I do like Godzilla as a force of nature, I applaud king of monsters for actually trying to make him a character. I know the close ups rubbed some the wrong way, but I liked that he was trying to communicate emotion through Godzilla, he made him a character rather than a metaphor for a natural disaster .

I liked Shin Godzilla, but I liked king of monsters more in the fact that Godzilla had a personality and was not just a force of nature. I know it’s akin to the Showa era which some don’t like, but I thought it was a nice change up to Godzilla just destroying humanity. I really liked the communication between mothra and Godzilla in this movie and wonder will him and Kong communicate some way in the upcoming movie.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters Director Unfazed by Poor Reception

Again, I appreciate what the director did here as well as what the director in skull island - Jordan Vogt-Roberts did in that movie. They brought two of my favorite characters to the big screen and stayed true to them as characters. I really appreciate it as a fan when directors stay true to the character and history of the character. Avengers infinity war and endgame where hits and I will take these movies over those because they totally missed the hulk in those films. I realize a lot of people liked them, but I was left disappointed with my character in those films, and while they were good films, that really took away from the movie for me and caused me not to enjoy them as much.

So while this movie isn’t close to the hit those were, I enjoyed it thoroughly and really appreciate the directors passion and love for the character. Hats of to him, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Peter Jackson, and Edward Norton for caring about my childhood characters and giving me enjoyable movie experiences.

Pacific Rim? What about the MCU with talking Racoons? I think it makes logical sense for human beings to emulate and weaponize a giant mech in order to protect itself from giant titans

Yes. They will communicate through the universal language of looove.

But seriously they probably might. You bring up an interesting point and the possibilities are endless...there is vastly more potential for 2020 Kong vs Godzilla compared to the original which was a crapshow imo

Godzilla 2014 had basically just real world technology, whereas KOTM had giant undersea bases, volcano bases, laser jails, oxygen destroyers,a machine that could talk to monsters and a colossal flying headquarters.

They've already made a big leap into sci-fi tech, Mechs are just a small step from there.

Well it had been half a decade.

I guess you could argue that studying the monsters led to various new discoveries and innovations.

I think Mechagodzilla would be perfectly in line with these movies.

Again, if anything, that's who they're hinting towards popping up in GvK.

You also have to factor in the dude who directed Shin also worked on Evangelion. So yeah.

I have no problems with Chris Pratt. I just found Fallen Kingdom unpleasant all around. It's not even so bad its good. Jurassic World kind of hits the "this is stupid but I love it anyway!!!" portion of my brain. Fallen Kingdom just hit the "this is stupid" portion of my brain.

Spoke my thoughts 100% there, dude.

And I like all the other Jurassic Park sequels, flaws and all, but Fallen Kingdom just hit a nerve with me.

Totally agree with you.

Sure, but why would you build a robot that looks like a giant lizard? I don’t see how that would really give them an advantage. The robots in Pacific Rim weren’t shaped like the monsters. I wasn’t a fan of that movie but they did provide a logical reason for the robots to be somewhat human shaped.

It's science fiction. You have to give a certain amount of suspension of disbelief when it comes to things like this. Not everything like that needs a detailed explanation. In fact, trying to do that I think made Pacific Rim fairly boring at times.

No Jurassic Park sequel has been good. They just don’t know how to take the story in an interesting place. They had a chance with JW but instead they mostly just rehashed what we saw before (only now with more sexism and kid characters that totally suck!). That said, I liked Pratt better than Sam Neill. I like the original JP film but it always irked me how they turned Alan Grant into an arrogant A-hole and Malcolm into a smooth talking jackass who contributes absolutely nothing other than an iconic unbuttoned shirt scene.

Lol I definitely agree that it helped make PR boring.

I think KOTM showed that they don't mind doing things that are silly.
