I like that plot.
Universals Van Helsing reboot eyes Channing Tatum
Seriously. Talk about a miscast. What's next? Jonah Hill for Dracula?
Tatum as Van Helsing is sort of a perfect summary of the whole endevour.
I'd watch that.
Get Taika Waititi on that stat!
I know I've been defending these new monster movies, but I can't muster any kind of silver lining with the Channing Tatum news. He's too much of a doofus. Such a dumb idea. The movies may not be stellar, but at least the casting in these new movies is decent. Tatum blows that outta the water.
Collider August 2, 2017:
Akiva Goldsman Done with Transformers; Alex Kurtzman May Exit Dark Universe Franchise
Still a no.
Still a no?...
The Dark Universe isn't happening Universal. Not even Channing Tatum can save it.
Also, can we please acknowledge that Tatum isn't a box office draw either. Dude might be a movie star, but he doesn't have huge opening weekends due to his name alone.
Maybe if Kurtzmann leaves they can get someone else to climb aboard and right this ship before its runs aground. I still have hope. Empty, evidenceless hope.
haha. That person definitely isn't Tatum.
I wasn't referring to an actor dude. Producer/Writer/Director. They need a Feige.
What legitimate filmmaker wants to jump on and fix this mess though? I mean the whole architect of this franchise and Dark Universe is now ready to move on it seems.
I'm sorry, but it's probably a good thing this project is falling through. Trying to turn this franchise into a Marvel-style cinematic universe was silly, especially when they decided to make Dr. Jekyll a Nick Fury-type character. I have nothing against non-Marvel brands creating a shared universe, but not everything needs to copy that same formula. A monster series certainly doesn't lend itself to that at all.
Akiva can fix it. He's franchise viagra!
Or Roth-Man & Pascal!
Feige is as good as he is because he worked on Superhero movies before he became president of Marvel.
Finding someone like that isn't going to be easy.
I think it's proof that trying to copy or mimic Marvel Studios' success is nigh impossible, though everyone in Hollywood wants to do it. Everyone wants their own shared universe franchise now. But it's not a simple matter of collecting all your top IP throwing a bunch of writers into a room and saying "make me a shared universe" and snap, there it is.
It's also about taking the time and effort to do it.
And at the same time, Marvel still had to prove itself to the industry and audiences at large. And it had to do it repeatedly. Even after Iron Man, it still took quite a while for the MCU to really take shape.
Check this out for some suggestions on Van Helsing and Dracula :
I was thinking about it and Sally Hawkins would make a good Bride of Frankenstein.
That would be awesome!
Sally Hawkins has such a cool vibe about her. She could do something really amazing as the Bride. I'd much prefer her over someone like Angelina Jolie. Yawn.
