Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Part 1

saw it, loved it, I thought it was pretty much the 90s toho movies brought to the big screen by hollywood. As a massive godzilla fan it really hit the marks for me but as a film it is really lacking, I get the reviews but as a fan I was very happy with this.

Question:

why didn’t they just call them Kaiju instead of Titans? That would open the door to a possible Pacific RIm collaboration/ mashup which IMO would be nerdgasm of the highest order

Imagine a Jaeger teaming up with Godzilla to take down Destroyah Kong Ghidorah and a Level 5 Kaiju[/ spoiler]

Because they felt Titan was more fitting with what they wanted to show with the kaiju.

I also totally get the reviews.

BTW

Kong didn't seem to be affected by Ghidorah's controling of the kaiju's I think that in itself is set up for him and Godzilla clashing in GvK Kong might just be the type that doesn't bow to any alpha

Well, that would make sense given he is probably a rival Alpha himself.

I think you're right...however I think they will depict him as just wanting to be more of a loner, hence why he always remains on skull island.

I wish it was the Peter Jackson Kong I don’t like the look of the new one. Jackson’s has character and a distinct look that trade mark scar and scowling look. Jackson’s On the right looks like a legitimate gorilla whereas the new one on the left looks like a giant chimpanzee

Box office predictions?

I’m predicting 30-50 million domestic opening weekend

Final domestic box office of $200-300 million

I hope it does well in Asia

I am comfortable with a run similar to Skull Island. Ideally, cracking $60 million this weekend. $150-175 over all domestic. Luckily, it sounds like it is doing well in China and Japan.

There was one thing that really bothers me. There's no resolution to the Charles Dance character. Vera Farmiga's character leaves and that's the last we see of him.

That's not true.

In the post-credits scene, he gets his hands on one of Ghidorah's severed heads.

"Terrible"?? That's quite an exaggeration.
He constantly had a goofy dumfounded look on his face. I wasn't the only one who noticed it. Edwards did not have a good handle on his actor's performances. Aaron Taylor Johnson hardly even seemed concerned about the lives of his family.

Dance did an interview with the Guardian where his thoughts on the film was that the catering was great. Don't think that will go down too well but he's really up front about how he views taking such roles; it's going to pay for something.

Anyway, having seen it, when it's good it's fantastic. When it's not, it's tedious. Good outweighs the bad for me.
