Now that I've seen the film, my general thoughts:
* Kong and Godzilla are great in the film. They have actual characterizations and emotions. Their fights look great. The direction for the fights was great as well. It might be the best directed action for this entire franchise.
* The human characters are totally disposable. I found Bernie very annoying. I couldn't buy at all that he was able to get away with working at Apex for five years while also hosting a well known podcast that was informing against them.
* The writing is flimsy. It's kind of got that whole Rise of Skywalker fetch quest syndrome, though not quite as bad. Like Ilene Andrews starts complaining when they try to collect a power source sample. Why? That's why you were there in the first place! There's a lot of silly contrived plot conveniences.
* Kyle Chandler and Lance Reddick are absolutely wasted. They have nothing to do here and could've easily been cut. A waste of fine acting talent. Too much Bernie, not enough Reddick and Chandler.
* Junkie XL's music is hit and miss for me. The synth sort of new-wavey stuff during the quiet moments was good. It was kind of like Vangelis doing Blade Runner or Tangerine Dream. The big monster stuff pales in comparison to Bear McCreary.
* The movie is very, very lean. It's a double-edged sword. The fights are there, and we get to the fights quicker, and they're satisfying. But it feels like pertinent character stuff and writing was lost on the cutting room floor.
* After a nice setup, the film does absolutely nothing with the fact that Ren is Dr. Serizawa's son. Absolutely nothing. There was no point in making him Serizawa's son.
* I don't really know why Simmons and Serizawa recruit Nathan Lind for the Hollow Earth expedition. They don't really need him since they have all the necessary money, infrastructure, vehicles and equipment. They can basically do it all themselves.
* When the action scenes are broken up, and believe me, they are, it's like a break inbetween rounds for a prize fight. The fights are paced well, much better than the previous films. None of that cut away BS like the 2014 film.
