Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

And for the record, I liked the movie. I have said that before. I felt like he nailed Godzilla, characterized him great, but totally nerfed him at the end, but that was understandable because Kong needed some time to shine, which is why he looked good against MechaGodzilla even before the awesome assist by Godzilla at the end.

But what annoyed me throughout the movie was Kong felt like a pet, complete with Zoo enclosure that was still in place at the end. He didn’t come off as the warrior that he was in skull island. Even being an older version of that would have played more like a Peter Jackson , wiser better fighter Kong , but we got something totally different. He just seemed more in line with George from rampage. I liked his relationship with the girl, but overall Kong himself just came across as tame.

I don’t hate Godzilla, I just love Kong more! He was the very first sci-fi creature or hero that I was exposed to as a child way back when, and so I’m still loyal to him followed closely by the Hulk, Godzilla, transformers, Voltron, Bruce Lee, Star Wars , Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. I’m a kid of the 80s Lol

For those who want a good laugh, here’s the trailer for the Asylum version of this movie: APE VS. MONSTER.

Such an inspired title. I’m really disappointed that The Asylum didn’t do a BvS rip-off called “Masked Man vs. Flying Man.”

Watched it again today before it leaves HBO maxed and really enjoyed it. I really like all of team Kong and didn’t really find team Godzilla all that annoying. I also really like the idea of the following sight on son of Kong! https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/son-of-kong-could-work-in-monsterverse/

T
he idea that Kong goes into the Hollow earth and meets a much larger ferocious Kong would be great! Not sure how they could pull that off given that we saw his parents burial ground in skull island, but who knows .. I still really like the idea of what we have known as Kong is actually the son and the real Kong presides in the hollow earth.

That would be super cool.

Decided to watch this again before it leaves HBO Max tonight and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. The script and story are completely asinine and overcomplicated for no reason but the movie delivers on its premise in spades. Wingard directed the s*** out of the action and spectacle in this and this just a real good time. I would've loved to have seen this in a packed movie theater with an enthusiastic crowd because this is a real crowdpleasing blockbuster.

I still don't think it's overcomplicated. It's all pretty straightforward and we understand the goal: They need an energy source to defeat Godzilla. That's really it. Is it weird? Yeah, but it's simple. And the concepts that the plot is hanging its hat on are very sci fi and strange. Which is one of the reasons this movie was just a breath of fresh air. In a time when these franchises are just more totemic worshipping of brands or standard fare, this movie had a real vision to it. Wingard just knew how to let loose. It reminded me of Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson. I need more moments in these blockbusters like when Kong pops his arm back into socket dammit!

Yeah i mean i guess Wingard and the screenwriters were attempting to do something out-of-the box which should be commended. The first time i watched it it just seemed like such a... convoluted way of pitting these two against each other and i had a hard time following the story logic.

This time, though, having a better understanding of the plot definitely helped a lot.

Yeah I mean, they need the power source to defeat Godzilla and Kong is the only one who can help them get it, hence him being in Godzilla's path. Kong is the protagonist and Godzilla is the antagonist. The people are just a conduit for these two to get together.

It was passable, but the plot does start to get contrived in the third act.

"IF" they make another, I think they should do everything possible to have a crossover with PR.
Set it in the future. If they don't want to do PR,then go the shogun warrior route.

Imagine seeing gaiking, raideen, or danguard ace ( maybe all three ) fighting along side godzilla and kong vs gigan, space godzilla and mecha king ghidorah ( or any monster of your choosing )

I would make the mechas roughly 160' tall, but each is as powerful as kong and godzilla.

The mechas and their pilots could be alien, they would be pursuing space godzilla to destroy him, it just happens to end up on Earth.

I’m actually watching this today. Nothing better to do on a rainy day. My teenage son refuse to watch it with me. I keep telling him there is nothing better than a cheesy monster movie on a rainy day.

Never going to happen. And quite honestly, as a kaiju fan, I don't think it should, either.

In third place again was Warner Bros.’ kaiju kings, Godzilla vs. Kong, which collected $2.7 million in its fifth frame. The titanic PG-13-rated tentpole lost some more steam, dropping off -36.1% from the previous weekend. The movie earned a $1,064 per-screen average in 2,573 theaters over the weekend despite also being available on the HBO Max. Godzilla vs. Kong’s domestic total now sits at $90.3 million. If it keeps roaring along for a couple more weeks, it should become the first film since the pandemic began to cross the $100-million mark domestically. Meanwhile, after adding the monster mash-up’s $325.1 million in foreign receipts, its worldwide box-office total is a healthy $415.4 million. -BOM

GvK should reach 430 million but the ceiling is looking like 460 million

Dont forget Ultraman and Gamera

The vfx are right on par with Emmerich's Godzilla.

Thats a good result all things considered with this pandemic. I think after the home video release they should RE-release this in theaters around the holidays and give it one last theatrical push-- with lots more theaters open worldwide and that could push it to $500M potentially.

Not a great idea with the blockbuster backlog.

Yeah. Going to be way too many movies fighting for screens.

I enjoyed this. It presented exactly what was promised on the tin, in a manner that respected both characters. My audience was packed and there lines waiting outside when I left.

And GvK Mechagodzilla SH Monsterarts just went up. More expensive than Kong and Godzilla, but it looks to be a fancy figure
