Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

Yup, the marketing is definitely tilted in Kong's favour, even the poster has him more prominently featured. Writing's on the wall Godzilla fanboys, don't say you weren't warned.
Errr... maybe because the general audience hasn't seen Kong since 2017 as opposed to seeing Godzilla in 2019.

I need to rewatch Kong. I know it’s on HBOMax now but I haven’t seen it since it was released in 2017. Probably will rewatch it before GvK comes out.

Honestly, if one really thinks about it, it's so obvious that Kong is going to win. Not bearing in mind that Kong is the default "underdog" which already guarantees him the win, KOTM ended with Godzilla becoming the alpha of all the monsters. He's the most likely candidate to lose against Kong, and by falling at his hands, Kong becomes king. Hence, King Kong. Also he has a bigger connection to humanity than Godzilla does.

And there's the fact that Kong so clearly won in the original.

Does anyone ever really win in these vs ?

Freddy vs Jason? Alien vs Predator? Batman v Superman? Captain America vs Iron Man?

Couldn't you make a case both win... kinda? Or one wins, then the other is like, nah I'm still alive.

Adam Wingard confirmed a long while ago that there would be a clear winner. Though I don't think Godzilla will die in the process. At least, I hope not.

Tone had a lot to do with that as well. I mean, Kong had such a fun tone. Godzilla '14 and KOTM are very serious. It's easier for the actors to stand out when you can be a little more broad as in Kong.

Honestly, I wasn't in love with Kong: Skull Island. Of the 3 Monster verse movies it was my least favorite so far. Outside of Sam Jackson and John C. Reilly, the other characters just seemed to have no real purpose in the story. Even if the characters in Godzilla 2014 were meh, at least they served some purpose to the story outside of existing.

I dont think it plays out that way. Yeah, Kong I see winning. But I see in the end, Kong and Godzilla team up against another threat. Godzilla may or may not be killed by the true main monster. But while I think Kong wins the fight, Godzilla doesn't die in that fight.

Never thought of it like that

I'm just amused at the idea of Godzilla being alpha of all the monsters turns him into a massive *****e that has to be dealt with.

I think with the conspiracy part in the synopsis is what will drive the conflict. Kong is shown to be chained in the clips we've seen so far, so whoever these people are, they probably want all monsters to be wiped out and establishing their own Alpha that can be controlled.

Or in other words,
MechaGodzilla might frame Godzilla in the exact manner he did in his first appearance in the Showa era (would explain the tow with the red dorsal plates), painting him as an antagonist and they forcibly use Kong to stop him only to then plan to kill him with MechaGodzilla.

Though this is just me speculating.

I'm assuming there's a Kong wins due to the axe. But that also allows him to damage MecaG and fight long enough for Godzilla to recoup and help.

I think Jason, Batman and Predator all clearly won.

Watch that spoiler end up being in the trailer tomorrow. That's what I hated about KOTM. They gave away everything in their trailers, TV spots and posters.
