Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

This looks super fun, I can’t wait. It’s so great they know we don’t want story or really care for the human characters. It’s just about the deathmatch haha.

One of my a**hole friends hated the music but he’s an a**hole

It looks dumb but also really, really fun. Godzilla in Hong Kong neon looked great. I don’t have a problem with the use of music on it’s own but it’s just funny how this franchise has evolved from super-deadly-serious modern take on Godzilla to dumb fun action movie.

Why's everyone saying G looks smaller? He's looks about the same size next to all those bright skyscrapers like movies past.
I'm pretty sure the Godzilla in the city at night is the real Godzilla. The Godzilla that attacks Kong on the battle carrier is MechaG and it is smaller than the real G.

Happy that Oguri Shun is featured in the trailer.
He is the one on the 1:42 minutes mark :)

A very awesome trailer. I want to watch it soon!
But too bad that Gojira here seems to be depicted as the villain and Kong as the hero.

Hope in Japan, the movie will debut not too far from the US date (since here in Japan, these movies are distributed by Toho, not WB, and Toho still hasn't decide a release date to this day).

Been talking and discussing with a friend about mecha-zilla looking a bit too organic for (my) liking, and a theory that was shared (I apologise if this has been speculated already) but what if mecha-zilla has some sort of cloak, or projected camouflage?

It's more believable (to me) that an organisation that could construct something like this would be able to install some kind of shielding/camouflage rather than synthetic skin/scales.

I fail to see how that is more believable, but okay.

I don't have much history with Godzilla or King Kong (why isn't he "King" in this new iteration?) aside from cultural osmosis and a few of the more recent films, but this looks so stupid in all the right ways and I'm here for it. I'm getting Pacific Rim vibes but with the prestige of the subjects being classic kaiju, and it's really nice that they're finally coming around to setting more of these fights in clearer, better lit environments. I know both Godzilla and King Kong at least used to have some thematic subtly to it, but at this point I just want to see big monke punch big atomic lizard and swing an axe.

Also, just discovered this and had to help it spread:

I am pretty sure he is not called King Kong due to some licensing issues. I have seen Kong's rights often referred to as a legal nightmare, so if I had to venture a guess, they can use the character of Kong but just can't call his movie King Kong.

I know I'm late to the party, but that trailer was AMAZING! And I'm going against the populace and say that the song choice ROCKED! It did it's job and got me hyped. My local IMAX has been open for a few months now, so I'll definitely be seeing this in theaters!

That was amazing :funny:

But, characters are never going to be better than “basic/standard” in films like this... so, I’d take the effort put into visuals ala Godzilla ‘14. Instead of KOTM where everything is washed out and the framing or POV isn’t very interesting/rewarding.

Even the recent legendary Apes trilogy has those characters issues... they try more, but they also know the heart of the story was Casaer (along with the importance of his cgi). Not the damn dirty humans.

So...

That doesn't look like any ordinary plane in the top left corner. Who was banking on aliens?

Eh, I think the Apes films are different. Caesar and the others may be CGI but they are fully formed characters that have human traits. They have dialogue and personalities beyond just being a force of nature that can level a city. So even if the human characters aren’t anything special, it doesn’t really matter.

The human characters in a kaiju movie need to be better written because they’re the ones the story is really following. That’s why G’14 is such a miserable experience IMO. In terms of visuals... I would say both that film and KOTM are pretty good but KOTM had more scenes where I actually got to see the monsters so it wins in that regard for me. G’14 had a bunch of action sequences where buildings collapse and whatnot but it constantly tried to hide what was causing it (which was the only thing setting the destruction apart from your average Bayhem action movie).

With all that said, has there ever been a kaiju movie with well written compelling memorable human characters? lol

It probably has been said before, but in this shot and another one we can see land in the sky. I'm pretty sure there will be a “center of the earth” subplot. Maybe even something totally bonkers like people living there and responsible for the Mechagodzilla. Some reptilian sh*t ahah.
Let this saga goes beyond madness, this is what works best for it. :D

Late to the party, but this movie looks absolutely amazing! This looks like a "Put your brain in park and be a happy 8 year old again" kind of movie. I'm in.
