Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

I'm glad I got a new big TV just in time for this.
Such a shame this wont be in theatres.

I'm sure when theaters open they'll have another screening in select theaters if the movie is successful.

Here's to hoping it does the MV justice and sets up a future. From the looks of the spots and trailers it appears this is a finale type film event.

I finally got home from the screening. I really enjoyed it! It’s definitely my favorite of the MonsterVerse movies. The monster action is by far the best in the series. The trailers are very Kong heavy and he does have a substantial amount of more screen time, but as a Godzilla fan, I loved how they handled Godzilla. He’s by far the coolest in this film than the other two films.

Godzilla defeats Kong the first time. Kong then gets the hammer and seems to defeat Godzilla. However, Godzilla attacks him on all fours(I believe a first in his appearances?) and scratches Kong to hell and defeats him. Godzilla can kill him, but he spares him and leaves.

Wait, Godzilla actually wins? What.

I seriously thought Kong was most certainly going to win given how the marketing had been focused on him and presenting him as the protagonist, as well as the usual Hollywood logic of "underdog always wins". Color me surprised, wow.

Any word on MechaGodzilla's role in the movie and how much screentime he has?

Great to hear your insight!!

Just wondering..without any specific spoilers, was
MechGodzilla impressive? Action & CGI-wise?

Yes, Godzilla clearly wins. Even when Kong “wins” the second fight with the hammer, Godzilla gets back up like five minutes later, gets on all fours, and just obliterates Kong. However, Kong gets his time to shine. One, the story is told from his perspective and two, he’s the one who gets to finish off MechaGodzilla. MG is only in the climax, I’d say maybe 20 minutes of screen time. Godzilla essentially kills Kong and gets attacked by MG. MG is created by humans and powered by the same power from the Hollow Earth as the Hammer and also the DNA from the Ghidorah head. However, it goes haywire(perhaps because they don’t know the power of the Hollow Earth or perhaps because Ghidorah’s Head takes control of it or maybe both) and it attacks the city. Godzilla and MechGodzilla fight while the humans revive Kong. Then Godzilla and Kong fight MG together which is AWESOME, but Godzilla gets knocked out(he already was winded before Kong was revived) and MG is about to kill Kong, when Godzilla fires his breath at the hammer to light it up and Kong defeats MG with the hammer. It’s so badass!

very cool. His awakening scene is awesome and when he fights Godzilla and Kong at the same time.

Sounds great!!! Can’t wait to see that for myself, thanks!

Sounds EPIC!

Can you spoiler tag some cool things that Kong does in the film, also any new titans that we haven't seen yet in the trailers?

Thank you!

This climax is gonna be a sight to behold, holy s***.

One last thing,
do Kong and Godzilla have a moment after where it shows they're cool with each other and each go their separate ways? And how does the team-up come about besides MechaGodzilla coming into the picture?

So basically Godzilla is attacking the bases where they are working on MG because he senses the danger. Humans think he’s just gone evil, but they don’t know what’s being done behind closed doors. So basically, MG is being finished in Hong Kong, so Godzilla arrives at Hong Kong where he and Kong fight. Literally as they finish fighting, MG turns on the humans and breaks out on the city just as Godzilla defeats Kong, so there’s not really any buildup to that. Then, when Kong gets revived by the humans as Godzilla and MG fight, the girl from Skull Island tells him Godzilla isn’t the enemy and he helps defeated MG. After they defeat MG, Kong is expecting a fight, but drops his hammer and Godzilla roars at him as like acknowledgement, and then he turns back and goes into the ocean peacefully as Kong watches him.

Sounds EPIC!

Kong leads the humans to Hollow Earth and actually sits on his ancestor’s throne as “King” Kong. He fights some smaller monsters in Hollow Earth.

Kong chops off MG’s head and yanks it out holding it with the spine and growling as like a victory moment.

What did you think about the soundtrack? and do some themes from the TOHO films return?

How long was Godzilla down for, was he knocked out?

The scores was fine. It didn’t really jump out at me. I didn’t recognize any old themes, but I’m not a diehard of the Toho films, aside from the original. The original score is not in the film.

The score did not jump out at me. Godzilla gets knocked out of the MechaGodzilla fight, but I don’t think he actually gets knocked unconsciously. I don’t remember exactly. He is just worn down from the fight. MG beats him pretty badly before Kong is revived.

Read the other tag in this post above ^. He doesn’t get back in the fight, but he does shoot his atomic breathe onto the hammer to help Kong finish off MG. He gets up after the fight and leaves.

So Godzilla gets on all fours and destroy Kong that's pretty cool but i wasn't expecting Godzilla to be on all fours

Can you please hide this? I think specific action beats can be considered spoiler territory.

Everyone wants to know the ending, but what I wanna know how the movie starts off.

@Godzilla1824 Please spoiler-tag your post. Some people in this thread don't want to be spoiled and we have spoiler tags for that specific reason.

It opens with Kong waking up at Skull Island enjoying the sun, only to throw a tree through the sky which hits and invisible wall and reveals he’s actually in like a dome supervised my Monarch

You misunderstood, I meant
How long is Godzilla out for after Kong "Seems to win" you said 5 minutes but for the pacing of the movie that seems too long

I'm curious about the ship attack scene. Why did godzilla attack the fleet?
Was it simply because another alpha was on it or something more?
