Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

I mean edm and techno is pretty much his whole wheelhouse so it's not gonna be varied.

Apparently no one here as ears for a living, as Godzilla’s theme for this movie is a classic monster theme done gloriously. I love KOTM’s OST just as much as everyone else, but getting new themes doesn’t = garbage.

I absolutely love Junkie XL. He is the kind of guy you wanna get to score a big bombastic crazy action movie like the Snyder Cut or Mad Max or 300 Rise of the Empire or...Godzilla vs Kong. I feel like he's gonna give the movie--especially during the battle scenes--a real sense of adrenaline and intensity.

That’s what I’m saying, I can’t even imagine how hype the drums are gonna be during fight sequences.

Plus, I think the new themes work incredibly well. Godzilla’s theme is a darker, twisted remix of his normal one, which fits with the character in this movie. Kong’s is an epic, yet surprisingly emotional track, yet again embodying the character.

Nah, it just sucks.

Tyler Bates's 300 Score > JunkieXL's Rise of an Empire

You guys act like he's the only one who does "big and bombastic" scores.

I heard what I believe is the Junkie XL version for this film, and I still think bear McCreary's version is superior.

Aight then, ya’ll have your way. I’m just hype that Junkie did a sick remix of “Storm on Odo Island” as Godzilla’s theme for this movie.

I mean its cool that he picked that song out but thats not his "theme"...

Am I the only one who thinks JunkieXL just really sucks with his scores? I can't name a single one I can point out to being good, and considering how AMAZING Bear McCreary's score was for KOTM, I don't get it.

There are things I dont like about his music, but I love the way he'll do a theme and moment as if its a power ballad. Just letting it build and build and play through until itd had its say. I feel that too many composers cut good themes off at the knees just as they are getting going. Giacchino might just be the worst offender of that. He's so damn low energy most of the time and his themes so abbreviated that it makes me want to strangle him. Good example:

The theme is really 00:40 - 1:40. Its a fantastic and powerful theme for a villain and Giacchino gives it 1 minute to shine followed by 2 minutes of the lowest goddamn energy he can muster up. He lets it shine again for 30 seconds before the credits roll. It frustrates the hell out of me.

For the record I adore Bear McCreary's music. His God of War score is imo phenomenal and his Godzilla score was a blast.

Yeah I still prefer this.

This was a letdown.

Weird little circling flutes.

I can respect wanting to do your own thing and leave your own stamp on Godzilla, but the latter just isn't iconic or all that memorable.

Looks like I’m in the minority then, oh well. It’s possible that Legendary was licensed the OG theme for KOTM and KOTM only.

Just got my IMAX ticket. Same theater where I saw Wonder Woman 1984 in IMAX in December. Again, just narrowly missed seeing King of the Monsters in theaters, and ended up watching all three of these films at home.

I'll be damned if I let that happen for this one.

I really enjoyed Deslpat's score for Zilla 2014, but McCreary's KOTM score was utter perfection IMO and to me just felt like it emobodied the essence of that movie.

I honestly don't think enough people appreciated the scores for either movie though which is sad because we don't get many movie scores these days that actually stand out.

I haven't listended to any tracks of Junkie XL's score yet and don't plan to until I watch the movie in its entirety, but I always expected it to be alot different than the scores for the previous movies.

I think that’s the problem. People keep comparing Bear’s score to Junkie’s, but they’re two different scores for two different movies. I highly doubt Bears score would work for GvK, and the same goes for Junkie’s score in KOTM. For that matter, Bear’s nor Junkie’s score would work in G14.

More, but less than Kong. I think this is the best depiction of Godzilla in the series.
There is a scene in the trailers where Godzilla puts his foot on Kong's chest and roars at him. When does that happen in the battle?

I absolutely believe McCreary would've done a phenomenal job scoring this movie.

As for Desplat's, I liked it in the intro credits, that's about the only time I can remember it.

Ok I've given the Junkie XL Godzilla theme a closer look, and I'm not impressed. It's not his best work, ie Mad Max Fury Road.

It sounds like he samples a smidge of the classic theme and then basically riffs on his crappy music for Batman v Superman, just dull brooding tones. Doesn't sound like iconic theme music.

I guess I’ll stay in minority opinion then. I’m personally really happy with it.

I wonder what...
MG’s theme is gonna sound like?
