Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

Oh, now I feel bad for spoiling it, I missed your earlier post where you said you were watching it right now.

Nah no worries man, Its not that serious for me. Im nearing the climax and just shutting my brain off at this point. Its an entertaining enough monster movie but every time Millie and Vera are onscreen its insufferable.

I will say this was probably cool to watch in IMAX.

Funny, I don't think the human story is that good in KOTM but I may be the only one that never thought Vera and Millie were bad either. I find that family more engaging than ATJ and Elizabeth Olsen. I think the only one that really irritated me was Bradley Whitford.

No. He’s not in it nearly as much as Kong, but he’s in every major set piece and, IMO, the coolest part of every major set piece.
That’s good enough for me.

GVK never acknowledges that Ren is Dr. Serizawa's son. They literally do nothing with that.

Yeah I'll take the still-not-great characters of KOTM over...whatever the hell that was in Godzilla 2014 any day of the week. Getting rid of the hammy but more compelling scientist guy and replacing him with a plank of wood with an otherwise thin story.

It also irked me how they hid the monsters too much. This ain't Jaws on Land and in the City, get out of here with that LOL.

Not surprised that after getting bounced off Rogue One: ASWS for Tony Gilroy that Gareth Edwards hasn't directed anything even if that Godzilla script wasn't his fault but I don't know the story about the production.

I will probably have a minority opinion, but I liked KotM more. For me, that is still best Monsterverse movie. This was probably 2nd best though. I still liked it quite a bit.

I would rank as:

Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Godzilla vs Kong
Godzilla
Kong: Skull Island

3 out of 4 quarters of this film are good. The fourth belonging mostly to the Madison, Josh, and Bernie scenes. As someone who loved KOTM and liked Madison a lot, this felt like such a down grade for the character. Why would someone as smart and capable as she was, with first hand experience with Monarch and running with eco-terrorists A) drag some random teen into this BS, and B) put as much trust as she does in some conspiracy nut with a podcast? You could write Bernie and Josh out and have her breaking into Apex on her own and it would change nothing.

I thought the human characters in Kotm were annoying, especially the guy with the glasses. I think the human characters in this film were solid but not as good a skull island’s characters. This Kong felt different to me though. I know he was supposed to be an aged Kong, but he felt different entirely. It was a solid film though, better than kotm in my opinion.

I would rank as follows :

Kong : Skull island
Godzilla vs Kong
Godzilla 2014
Godzilla Kotm

What would Kong 2 be about?
Hollow Earth fighting more Titans?

I think that this is a good stopping place, I think the whole purpose of the monster verse was to get to this film. Now that it’s here and has served it purpose it may be a good time to stop. Idk this Kong feels totally different from the Skull Island Kong. It’s almost like the KK lives Kong who was supposed to be the 76 Kong who survived the fall, but was totally different. One walked on all fours and the other never did. They had different personalities and were just different in every way.

It feels the same here, it’s as if they are two different Kong’s. Godzilla felt the same, but Kong was different. I would really have liked to seen this movie directed by Vought Robert’s or Peter Jackson, one wonders how it would differ.

haven't been able to sleep so excited to go an actual venue to watch a tentpole blockbuster movie with my boy Mfing king kong got my tickets for thursday amc on 42nd street

so u didn't like Kong in this? without spoiling it what were the glaring differences between this kong and kong directed bv Roberts or Jackson?

Overall I'd give this a 5/10. There were a number of interesting ideas to explore in this and Wingard just blew right past all of them for some generic action. The whole
Mecha
plot line was half-baked ****.

This film should have spent more time on solving the mysteries of the Hollow Earth, like who or what built that gigantic arena, and a lot less time on Madison going on an adventure with a neurotic grown man that bathes in bleach every day. I expected a lot more common sense and caution from her after she watched her mom's terrible decisions kill herself and millions.

Putting Kong on a boat and taking him to Antarctica was a big chunk of the script that was entirely unnecessary. The franchise had already established that Skull Island was on top of hollow earth passages. The expedition could have entered the hollow earth through Skull Island and spent more time exploring and discovering.

Godzilla KOTM - 7.5/10
Kong Skull Island - 7.5/10
Godzilla 2014 - 6/10
Godzilla vs Kong - 5/10

I honestly didnt think the human characters in this were any better than any of the prior Monsterverse movies. All of them have have same issues. You can throw me a cute little and try and manipulate my emotions by telling me that she and Kong are connected, but she is not a developed character. No better than anyone in KotM. So I don't agree with that criticism of that movie.

Though Kong himself was better developed than on Skull Island.

i agree someting about godzilla vs kong didn't go well with me plus they really did madison dirty in the movie it why i king of the mosnters better

Oof. The vibe im getting in this thread isnt encouraging so far...are the fights themselves not even satisfying?

but honsely i'm glad do that the movie getting postive reviews and getting ton of money holepfuly contune the monsterverse in getting a mother movie or moster movies

Godzilla holding the KOTM Belt at the end and yelling "KING KONG AINT GOT **** ON ME!

Wow! This movie was loads of awesomeness from beginning to end! By far the best movie in the Monsterverse. I wanted to see it on HBO Max first to see if it warranted a theater going, but it absolutely does! Seeing it Friday in IMAX. Can't wait! 9/10.

Monsterverse ratings:

GvK: 9/10
KSI: 8.5/10
G14: 7.5/10
KOTM: 6/10

Seeing this in an hour! I can watch on HBO Max, but im gonna watch this at my local cinema.

I did like him, just found him to be different, honestly almost like they were going for an 05 Kong vibe, but fell short of it.

Godzilla on the other hand is totally realized here. He is the same from 14 and Kotm, just evolved. He’s by far the more realized character. You can tell the director was more of a Godzilla fan.
