Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

Me neither!! Did they even mention his name?

When he and Simmonds came to see Lind (Skarsgård), he introduced himself as Ren Serizawa. But they never made any mention of him being Watanabe’s character’s son.

This movie was so forgettable that I forgot to post that I saw it in theaters last Friday. :o 5/10 for me I think.

I guess the action was cool, but there wasn't much beyond that. The fights didn't have much auditory impact and weren't the best-choreographed either.

Kong was too humanized and lost his impact as a monster. Fortunately Zilla still felt like a proper monster, but he wasn't in the movie as much.

KOTM and Skull Island are both better movies to me, and even though the 2014 movie lacked action, it had more going for it IMO. This one's at the bottom of the pile for me out of the movies that have been released since the 2014 movie. Also, IMO Peter Jackson's King Kong was a better movie and had a better Kong portrayal. Even 1998 Godzilla was more fun than this IMO, as bad as that movie was.

You make some valid points. Peter Jackson’s Kong is a great King Kong! This movie seemed like it forgot that he was supposed to be an older version of Skull Island’s Kong and went straight for trying to imitate Jackson’s King Kong and failed miserably! Again he is more like George or Mighty Joe Young 98.

I really wish we could get this movie with a different director that actually knows Kong. Godzilla nailed it though... You could definitely tell which Monster Wingard knew better. Just a sad state of affairs for a vs movie.

That was easily one of the most pointless cameos ever lol. He just pops up in one scene and you never see him again, but honestly alot of the human characters could still have been cut out of this and it wouldn't have changed a thing like Kyle Chandler who was pretty much given nothing to do here.

My main issue is that his character hits very, very differently after a year of watching what conspiracy theorists can become. And it isn't funny.
That's a valid point. I think the reason I enjoyed it so much was because it wasn't like all the ones we've been hearing about in the news lately. Plus, everything in the plot was so convenient and absurd.

That's why it would have been better to just cut his role out entirely IMO, because it added absolutely nothing to the movie other than him being a more recoginizable actor.

As much as I love Jessica Henwick and Ziyi Zhang I'm glad they were cut out of this seeing how the rest of the human characters were handled, because all they would have done is add more expositional nonsense and we definitely didn't need more scenes of that in this movie.

It was a near pointless inclusion really. They did nothing with the idea that Ren was Serizawa's son and that was his motivation to kill Godzilla.

Did I miss any explanation as to why there was a containment area on Skull Island? Was it a storm left over from King Gidorah?!
Also didn't get the sense that Kong was any bigger than he was in Skull Island, but yet he's now the size of Godzilla?
And to a comment furter back that they tried to make Kong more Human - I thought they very clearly went in the opposite direction - deliberately trying to make him more ape like?
For exaple - when he's in the arctic, he get's snow on his back to make him look like a silverback. And when he's in hollow earth and running, he's down on all fours and swinging from point to point.
I thought they moved away froma lot of his 'upright' stances like in Skull Island.
Just my opinion though.

Apparently they did it so Godzilla wouldn't go after Kong?

Did they ever explain why Godzilla didn’t go after Kong for the past 40 years or however long he’s been on that island? Like, why would he suddenly go there now? Maybe they explained this in KOTM and I forgot.

Implication was as long as Kong stayed in his zone, Godzilla ignored him.

If anything, this movie makes me appreciate KOTM even more.

Despite the boring humans, that film had better action, cinematography and score.

Godzilla was slow, threathening and mysterious.

Ghidorah was a force of nature and the first time i genuinely felt scared while watching these movies. Something about his scenes reminded me of War of the Worlds and the helplesness of the humans when trying to run away from him.

Rodan coming out of the volcano too - it felt like like these creatures could really cause global destruction.

The final fight between Godzilla and Ghidorah was awesome as well. Heavy, powerful hits, accompanied by an amasing sound design as well.

The Mechagodzilla fight at the end of GvK did nothing for me. Watching Godzilla scaled down and fightining a robotic version of him in a UFC/Power Rangers style felt.. out of place for this universe. They were both too quick and it looked ridiculous.

Not to mention adding a comic relief character just for jokes, brought a serious Anthony Anderson vibes from TF. And i mean that in a bad way.

Couple ARRRRRRGH moments ... 1. It's a flashlight not a torch dagnabit!!! 2. Is that a password? Should be is that THE PASSWORD ffs

But then why would he come for him now if he was still in his zone?

I admit I wasn’t necessarily giving the movie my most intense attention because, well, it was dumb, but IIRC Godzilla didn’t come after Kong until they moved him off the island on the ship.

Yeah, but did they say something early on that the dome was what was keeping Godzilla from coming after him? Or maybe I’m remembering it wrong. I wasn’t paying that close attention either lol.

You can definitely tell they cut out some character development for Ren Serizawa since they still kept that scene of him looking at Godzilla with a determined look when he rises out of the water in Pensacola.
