Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

If they were to go back into the bag of tricks and release an alternate ending where the other wins this would get people back out just to see how that plays out. At least that’s my prediction. People went in expecting to see one thing and got something totally different that they were not happy with. Or it could be that interest dwindled after the initial release. Either way I bet an alternate ending would get people back in the theater, but who knows

1. The drop isn't that bad. It is playing like a blockbuster. 60% drops are kind of standard. Add in some things like the holiday and the virus still ranging out of control, and box office numbers can be tough to figure out. There is no competition, so it can grow legs.

2. Give it up. There is no #releasthekongcut for this movie. You are talking about redoing a substantial amount of CGI. CGI that was in the process of animation for a long time. Not only do you have to come up with completely new storyboards for the finale of round 3, but also have to restructure a signficant amount of the final fight. Snyder had those storyboards and a lot of the previs already done. And it still cost $70 million to re edit his movie. Frankly, if you are looking at any sort of reasonable schedule, we are easily talking way more. And it will not recoup those costs. The state of the industry is such that "alternate takes" cannot happen with such heavy CGI.

Not surprising given that Joefixit has voiced out how much they love Kong before and wanted him to win, so it feels like projecting their own bias more than anything.

Kong is still pretty much the protagonist of the movie, with more screentime than Godzilla, and he's the one to ultimately kill MechaGodzilla (admittedly with a little help from the former). Him losing does not make all of these aspects obsolete or him less of a powerhouse.

Not to mention his theory that audiences were disappointed in the outcome is simply...wrong.

I am a bigger Kong fan but logically speaking Godzilla should win against him more often than not.

Online polls told us that Hillary Clinton would be president in 2016 then told us Trump would get a second term in 2020 so forgive me if I don’t really buy into online poll, because it really doesn’t represent the majority of people.

You may have a point there about me projecting my bias, but honestly I’m okay with the ending. I was more put off by his characterization as a whole in this film. Honestly my suggestion was nothing more then trying to rationalize the steep drop. I remember when Godzilla 2014 came out, it also had a huge drop and a lot of people were put off that it advertised him as the destroyer of worlds and then had him in the hero role. I was actually okay with it and enjoyed it, but some didn’t.

Golly Gee ! I didn’t know I would get so many responses on a simple suggestion. I’m okay with the ending, had more a problem with Kong’s characterization which can’t be fixed by a new ending. I’m just concerned for the drop and it getting beat in China : China Box Office: ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Walloped Again by Local Drama ‘Sister’

My thought is movies like this have two sides, so if you have two endings, it gets people out of the house and back to the theaters. It gives them a reason to see it again( repeat viewings = better business).Weekend Box Office Results: Godzilla vs. Kong Roars Toward $100 Million Milestone << Rotten Tomatoes – Movie and TV News But yeah, it’s nothing that is being done or about to happen, just a simple suggestion as the old movie for a long time was rumored to have two different endings( which turned out not to be true) .

And yes I realize that the pandemic has a lot to do with this, but if anything we know from opening weekend that people wanted to see and like this film, but no denying it’s a steep drop and it getting beat by a smaller movie in China is not good.

And I wouldn’t say the statement is absurd, but more so just brainstorming out loud as to what would get people back out to see the film. Yes I’m an avid Kong fan, but I’m also a fan of Godzilla as well and contrary to popular belief I want to see the film do well. Sorry for brainstorming on a message board geez!

So I saw this recently and really enjoyed it, but I gotta say the Pro-Godzillia team could have just been cut out of the film entirely, they were annoying, and overall nothing they did was actually important to the plot, I mean I won't say the people on Team Kong were deep complex characters, but they were actually doing that moved that mattered, and interacted with Kong throughout the whole thing, while Team Godzilla just bumbled around Apex, just so they can end up hearing the villain monologue.

I saw it, and I REALLY had to turn off my brain and enjoy the fighting. The Hollow Earth stuff and Team Kong were the highlights, but it's hard to overlook a guy with a podcast reporting on a big corporation he works for, without them easily figuring it out and firing/killing/prosecuting him for it. Also, the train from Florida to Hong Kong underground is silly...but nothing is as silly as Godzilla boring a hole to the center of the earth, not causing any seismic activity, and then just saying "peek-a-boo" to Kong, who proceeds to crawl up the hole without any problems with the aforementioned gravity wells, does it in under a minute, and the humans then just get up there in their compromised ship with no problems.

And yeah, Team Godzilla was about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. 11 should be sent to Juvenile hall or some halfway house. She had a horrible mother, and she's a horrible child (this part is a joke, by the way, but not really).

Damn if not for the pandemic this would have cleaned up at the BO. Not sure if it would've cleared a billion but def at least $800 mill I think.

I honestly don’t know. If there was no pandemic, this would have been just another of many big tentpole films.

Yeah, I think this movie is actually benefiting from the “absence makes the heart grow fonder” pandemic boost. A lot of people seeing this movie probably haven’t been to a theater in over a year and miss the experience of seeing a film on the big screen. Especially in areas where theaters have been closed for a long time like New York and LA, and recently re-opened.

Yet at the same time it's doing well on streaming here in the UK where cinema's are not open, so who knows.

Just glad this is getting the success it is.

‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ Is A Rare Blockbuster Sequel To A Box Office Disaster

That’s really not fair it’s not solely a sequel to King of Monsters, but also as sequel to the other two movies that came first which were well received.‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ Is A Rare Blockbuster Sequel To A Box Office Disaster
Yeah, if anything this is more comparable to something like Phase 1 of the MCU with Avengers doing better than Captain America. Not that Cap 1 was a flop but it made more than a billion less than The Avengers.

I also believe that King of the Monsters would have done much better had it not been released in such a crowded month. By comparison, pandemic aside, Godzilla vs. Kong had virtually no competition whatsoever.

I finally got to sit down and watch this since things are calming down a little for me and I loved it. Yes I wish Kong was the clear winner but Kong is also my favorite movie monster so I may be a bit biased. All joking aside the only thing I think should have been different was less or no team Godzilla. I also think they added little or nothing to the movie. On the other hand team Kong is how humans should be used in these movies in my opinion. I actually want to see them again be it in a Kong film or a Hollow Earth tv show. And the little girl and her interaction with Kong got me. When she is telling him please be careful I actually teared up. Thinking about it the little girl and Kong interacting may be my favorite part of the movie.

I think Godzilla vs Kong is better than both Godzilla movies but I'm not sure if I think it's better than Kong Skull Island after one viewing.

Or people aren't willing to risk 2nd 3rd viewings just yet, which is understandable, especially when it can be watched at home. Overall considering the way the world is this has been a real success.
