Goyer says All DC films at Warner Bros. are on Hold

I think they shoud at least try to get the Flash out with Batman, GL, and Superman.

The rest they can hold off on.

Well, I agree with him the Supermax is a horrible script, but the concept/premise still has so much potential.

I don't watch TNA. I'm simply a Samoa Joe fan.

Obviously something was up. Despite all the buzz, WB would NOT commit to a Supermax movie.

While the Supermax idea is interesting, I don't think Green Arrow should be used for that, either.

Yes it did. Justin Marks is a terrible writer. He butchered He-Man and Voltron.

No Black Canary, and a telegraphed villain.

It did suck. It was pretty awful. Still a fantastic idea for a Green Arrow movie though.

I'd rather see an origin film first. I'd like superhero films to break out of their genre mold, but origin films are important for an audience that would otherwise know squat about some of the more obscure heroes.

They know squat about most original characters, I dont see why their mindset would be so much different now.

Warner needs to hire Hannibal Smith...

Since he loves it when a plan comes together!
:D

IESB's title is misleading. It says 'All' while (unless I missed it) Goyer indicates 'a lot'. A lot is not necessarily all, and I still expect GL to start filming this Spring.

Yeah, I noticed that. I haven't seen the video, so I don't know what's the truth here. I'm sure that the truth is out there... lol

Goyer says All DC films at Warner Bros. are on Hold

Director/writer David Goyer says all the DC properties currently over at Warner Bros. have been put on hold for the time being.

When asked about several projects he's been involved with - i.e. Supermax, The Flash - Goyer said in a recent interview with IESB, "A lot of the DC movies at Warner Brothers are all on hold while the figure out, they're going to come up with some new plan, methodology, things like that so everything has just been pressed pause on at the moment. It was the double header of both Iron Man and The Dark Knight coming out, so more than ever I think they've realized, I think DC was responsible for 50% of Warner Brother's revunue this year, something crazy like that, so they realized that comic books, it's become a new genre, one of the most successful genres."

If anyone wants to know the problem look no further than this.

There's only ONE DC guy that works at WB. Or basically, as far as the films, there's like only one guy there there who is like WB's DC person.

Marvel has Marvel Studios and a whole group of people and teams of executives. DC does NOT have that with WB.

And they still really don't know what to do. Even if they have the second biggest movie of all time that was based on a DC Comic.

Well, Im sure Jonah Hex and Green Lantern arn't being held because they have gained so much momentum, and when Nolan is ready to continue they arn't going to say "Sorry not doing DC right now"

The news sucks on its face, but it seems like the purpose is to make sure these things are being handled correctly and with the adequate level of respect, so that the end product is fruitful.

Or it could be yet another stall because they have no bloody clue how to go about adapting some of these properties.

I hope it's the former.

Agreed.

Though if it the latter at least this will allow them more opportunity to do the former once they figure out what to do.

It may suck, but this is better then blindly plodding ahead with no long term plan. It looks like they're finally starting to learn. :woot:

by the way, I think the Hold won't be as dramatically long as the article/video implies. I think it will pick up by mid spring.

I don't think everything is on hold, but most of them are.

I think WB wants to get GL, Superman, and, of course, Batman out within the next 3 years.

But with WB you never know.

I HOPE SO.

I mean, WHY would they NOT want to profit from these franchises now?? Especially Superman and Batman since they have proven to be profitable. I'm sure they have figured by now that with a decent story, the right cast, and great action the people will come.

I hope so, cuz otherwise, the whole thing just doesn't make sense to me. I mean, are they that innept or what?

I think Supermax has potential if there were more rewrites.

I think it was another website (I think collider, I'm not too sure) where David Goyer stated a more..detailed response to a very similar question.

He stated that now DC is going through a lot of changes, storywise. For example, Barry Allen is coming back as The MAIN Flash right? So for the movie, it wouldn't make sense if they used Wally West instead.

It's stuff like that, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. It means that WB cares about these franchises. Also, remember Jim Lee, Grant Morrison, and other DC guys had meetings with WB throughout the Fall, in regards to the DC movies.

Green Arrow, just like Hawkeye, works well as a supporting character, espically in crossover stories or team-ups.

Maybe a solo straight-on Green Arrow movie could work (anything IS possible if you have the right people) but it'll be tough to do. The studio would really have to justify why Green Arrow deserves a movie of his own. It's possible but you need the right people.

So I think Supermax as a concept is a great..tentpole for a character like Green Arrow, and from there, move on to his own adventures.

You should read Mike Grell's GA run. Ollie is fine as a lead character.

That's for all adaptions. Some are harder then others, of course. Being difficult doesn't mean they don't have potential it just it has more hurdles to overcome to reach it.

It could work.
