This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]382015[/split]
I wonder what it will do to the sales/demand for them. With GTA out so soon to their expected launch, it gives less reason to upgrade especially when it'll presumably have DLC to extend its life. I wonder if Rockstar will announce that this will come to the next gen consoles, possibly with enhanced visuals and extra content to entice people to make the jumpDelay expected but not quite that late. It's getting close to the expected next-gen release time.
I highly doubt we'll see new systems this year. They will be announced, but it'll be like the WiiU, where it's revealed more to quiet people who keep saying we need them but 2won't have a solid release date.
PS3 was unveiled at E3 in May 2005, and was released November 2006 in Japan and North America.Thats possible. I mean we expect the new systems to be announced in what, June? With a release for Nov? Thats cutting it a little close dont we think? When were the PS3 and 360 announced in comparison to their launch?
With the previous announcement of Splinter Cell's August release date, it was noted that that was the latest confirmed release for this year, which hinted that next-gen would be near, and that Ubisoft carefully picked the date so that it wasn't leaving the game out to die once the consoles were announced. I'd imagine Rockstar would do the same since they would obviously have some stuff in development for the next-gen, but with this being a month later and closer to holiday season, I doubt they would leave this out there to compete with next-gen games.I think we're going to enter the next gen by Christmas out of necessity. Look at last year's E3. With exception of GTA V, Bioshock, Deadspace, The Last of Us and Metal Gear Rising (and maybe Ground Zeroes....which I still think will be next gen), this generation has nothing upcoming. Studios are acting like it is over. GTA V is basically the only holiday 2013 game. The studios have nothing else lined up that we know about. That implies to me that a console release is forthcoming.
Wouldn't be surprised if they did that with GTA. I think it'll be the last big game to release before the next gen hits and I think this time (having seen PS2's performance) both Sony & Microsoft are fully anticipating their current consoles continuing for a long time. So we could get double gen versions of most of the big games for the 1st year at least. At or near launch I expect the likes of CoD & EA Sports games to have versions for every gaming device out there & Battlefield 4 will likely be available in both current & next gen.I wonder what it will do to the sales/demand for them. And I think people are forgetting that just because next-gen consoles might be released, that doesn't mean that current gen is dead. People will still develop for PS3 and 360 because you will still have people who can't afford a new console at launch, and others (like myself) who won't necessarily feel like they need to upgrade right away because the current gen is still going great.
GTA is too big to be left out to dry. Splinter Cell needs some padding between itself and a console launch, because frankly....it is a dying franchise and Ubisoft is desperately hoping that their reboot saves the IP.
I'm kinda hoping the new consoles are announced this year but aren't released until 2014. Call it wishful thinking but I've only had a PS3 since summer 2012 and haven't had too much time to play it until now. My 360 I've had since 2007 so I don't mind whats going on the Xbox side of things for now.
Their statement says ""We know this is about four months later than originally planned..."so I'm assuming they were planning for a May release, which is what most of us suspected. Is it really delayed though? We didn't have a specific date until now did we? I thought we just had a vague period.
