Delay expected but not quite that late. It's getting close to the expected next-gen release time.
I wonder what it will do to the sales/demand for them. With GTA out so soon to their expected launch, it gives less reason to upgrade especially when it'll presumably have DLC to extend its life. I wonder if Rockstar will announce that this will come to the next gen consoles, possibly with enhanced visuals and extra content to entice people to make the jump

Yeah I think there's a chance of that happening,GTA V as a launch title would be awesome

I highly doubt we'll see new systems this year. They will be announced, but it'll be like the WiiU, where it's revealed more to quiet people who keep saying we need them but 2won't have a solid release date.

Thats possible. I mean we expect the new systems to be announced in what, June? With a release for Nov? Thats cutting it a little close dont we think? When were the PS3 and 360 announced in comparison to their launch?

The new consoles are expected to be unveiled at GDC in March,Even IF done in June it'd be 6/7 months until the holiday season and that could be plenty to hype it up to release and especially IF announced in March and extra info&launch games at E3

I think we're going to enter the next gen by Christmas out of necessity. Look at last year's E3. With exception of GTA V, Bioshock, Deadspace, The Last of Us and Metal Gear Rising (and maybe Ground Zeroes....which I still think will be next gen), this generation has nothing upcoming. Studios are acting like it is over. GTA V is basically the only holiday 2013 game. The studios have nothing else lined up that we know about. That implies to me that a console release is forthcoming.

PS3 was unveiled at E3 in May 2005, and was released November 2006 in Japan and North America.

360 however was unveiled May 2005 as well, but was released a November of 2005. They began promoting it in March though.

With the previous announcement of Splinter Cell's August release date, it was noted that that was the latest confirmed release for this year, which hinted that next-gen would be near, and that Ubisoft carefully picked the date so that it wasn't leaving the game out to die once the consoles were announced. I'd imagine Rockstar would do the same since they would obviously have some stuff in development for the next-gen, but with this being a month later and closer to holiday season, I doubt they would leave this out there to compete with next-gen games.

And I think people are forgetting that just because next-gen consoles might be released, that doesn't mean that current gen is dead. People will still develop for PS3 and 360 because you will still have people who can't afford a new console at launch, and others (like myself) who won't necessarily feel like they need to upgrade right away because the current gen is still going great.

People are expecting new consoles this fall bc of the lack of game announcements for the second half of the year. All of Sony's first party studios have been quiet. For the PS3, we have Naughty Dog releasing Last of Us in May and Santa Monica has GoW in March, but what about Evolution Studios, Guerilla, Polyphony, ND's other team, Sony London, Sucker Punch? Thats alot of big studios with no announced plans for the PS3. It seems logical that they are all working on PS4 titles which cant be revealed until that system is announced. Its been years since some of them came out with a title (ex. Sucker Punch's last game was in 2010). If they were making a PS3 game, that would have been announced by now and I cant see Sony putting nothing out for the remainder of the year. That makes no sense. I think we will are defiently going to see new consoles launch this fall

Oh yea, we are getting the new consoles this year. As some one else said, the 360 was not officially announced till May. Now it's much more cloak and dagger stuff because of heavy competition. Pretty much most of the professionals, and the stuff leaking from CES, is that ya the two consoles will be out this year.

Wouldn't be surprised if they did that with GTA. I think it'll be the last big game to release before the next gen hits and I think this time (having seen PS2's performance) both Sony & Microsoft are fully anticipating their current consoles continuing for a long time. So we could get double gen versions of most of the big games for the 1st year at least. At or near launch I expect the likes of CoD & EA Sports games to have versions for every gaming device out there & Battlefield 4 will likely be available in both current & next gen.

GTA is too big to be left out to dry. Splinter Cell needs some padding between itself and a console launch, because frankly....it is a dying franchise and Ubisoft is desperately hoping that their reboot saves the IP. GTA doesn't have that problem. If anything, the new consoles should be worried about GTA because new consoles are pricey and there is a damn good shot that anything they Sony and MS have to show for launch, GTAV will be better than.

I'm kinda hoping the new consoles are announced this year but aren't released until 2014. Call it wishful thinking but I've only had a PS3 since summer 2012 and haven't had too much time to play it until now. My 360 I've had since 2007 so I don't mind whats going on the Xbox side of things for now.

Thats not an accurate statement at all. The sales for the franchise have been fairly consistent since Pandora Tomorrow. Conviction sold close to 2 million units on the 360 alone which outside of the orig title was the highest selling title on any one console. Plus with a movie in development the franchise is anything but dying.

The movie seems more like its in development hell. I remember the trailer on Chaos Theory and was like YESSSSSS!

Hmmm, sorry lol, to me I'll say to that...tough. I've had a PS3 since launch (same with every console) and I'm ready for a new one. Just spend time catching up on great PS3 exclusives. Just because it took you a while to get one does not mean they should not push into the next gen. Now is the time.

On that note actually this video was released:

On February 20th they are having a PlayStation conference (which is not yearly by any means) and all the insiders/critics are pretty much saying..."Ya what do you think it is?" lol. It is for investors and so forth, and it talks about the future. It is possible they will wait till E3 to announce it which some are saying, some are saying it may not be announced on the 20th, but ya, more then likely it's coming out this year.

As for GTA, it stinks they delayed it that much, I'm actually really surprised, usually as of late they've stayed on track with most of their games. Oh well I guess, I'll go play Vice City on the PSN for now.

I don't think new releases are bad for anyone really. Those who are anticipating it get what they want and those who aren't don't have to buy it, have 1000 or so games in the back catalogue to play with at least 100 great titles, & the new console starts its path to getting cheaper for them when they do eventually want to trade up.

I'm sort of sad that this is delayed, I was planning on having GTAV be my "summer game". Oh well, the longer it gets developed, the better it will turn out.

Is it really delayed though? We didn't have a specific date until now did we? I thought we just had a vague period.

Their statement says ""We know this is about four months later than originally planned..."so I'm assuming they were planning for a May release, which is what most of us suspected.

The funny thing is that they did say they'd release the cover art this month, but I guess the delay is why they didn't.

Since its the first time I've seen a hard date, it doesn't really feel like a delay for me. I'm just happy that there's a new GTA coming out this year
