The mini comics inserted with the packaged figures were great & had a less campy feel than the Filmation cartoons, I think they´d be great.
I remember they were slightly less campy and about as deep as the toon. They were basically ten-page commercials for the other figures in each wave.

Personally, I never bought any MOTU figures, a few of my friends had some & I´d read them, they provided insight into the characters & other stuff.

Calling people hipsters is rather aggressive. Am I a hipster because I prefer the original Eastman & Laird Ninja Turtles?

I personally only call people hipsters not when they prefer an adaption over another, but when they ignore the social impact each has as a whole on the image of the IP.

Like if you were to tell me the cartoon has nothing to do with the popularity of the toys or brand.

Why would I try and bull **** you about something like that? I like the b&w comics because they're what I read first and still prefer but I don't try and sell them as the One True Way or anything. I know how huge the cartoon was.

I think I like your definition of hipster better than the usual 'person who likes this thing that I don't' version people usually use.

Anyone else prefer the pre-cartoon He-man? The one with an axe, and no facial hair on Man-At-Arms?
Could work. As long as he's still older and the change it's not done just to cast as young as possible, not someone in their 20s or early 30s

I feel like if Man-At-Arms appeared on screen clean shaven, there would be a mutiny. At least there would be from my corner of the fandom.

My choice for Man at Arms is Jeffrey Dean Morgan. That guy is awesome. Also, facial hair!

Yeah, he'd make a good Man-at-Arms. Still can't decide who would make a good He-Man though.

I'm just scouting. How good of an actor is Johann Urb? He seems to have the look but apart from a few seconds in 2012, I haven't seen him in anything.

I saw a little bit of him on that one-season "Eastwick" revival. He had no problem pulling off an American accent.

Sam Heughan is still my pick. Fearless actor AND really really ridiculously good-looking. :jd:

 I'm on board. He looks pretty good and has a less lean body structure than my original choice Alexander Skarsgard (who I've since dismissed as he'll be the next Tarzan) and thus can amount to more if he bulked up. He also seems to have a wealth of theater experience which is never a bad thing.

But he was also Batman and being both Batman and He-Man is too much power for a single person to have!:o

Viggo Mortensen, Tom Selleck, Karl Urban would make a better Duncan.

They can mutiny all they want because the character won't have any facial hair in flashbacks.

She's a good actress, young and pretty. She'd definitely LOOK the part. But the only thing I've ever seen her in is GoT, where she's always played the meek girly-girl. I don't know if she can play a tough as nails warrior woman, which is exactly what Teela is.

That's why I was thinking the wildling girl. She's also young and beautiful, granted a bit older than Sophie Turner. But she actually has convincingly played a tough as nails warrior woman, which makes me think she might be better suited for the role.
How about the actress that played Jessica on True Blood?
I feel that they have to find someone who looks a bit like the red head Teela. It's more important than casting someone just because she played a warrior.

I don't watch True Blood, so I don't know if she'd be a good choice.

The girl from GoT has red hair, is athletic, not afraid to get naked (if you're going for a hard R rating), and can fight convincingly on camera. She's also a pretty good actress.

I'm not saying no to the other girl, I'm just unfamiliar with her.

Huh, what kind of MOTU do you expect this to be?

I also have to add that the character shouldn't be older than in the very early 20s. It is important because while Man-At-Arms was one of the best warriors around, already a captain of the guard, when he found baby Teela - in present day Eternia he's should still be able to take down enemies in battle (that means he can't be too old).

Karl Urban, I suppose would want to play a younger character, TBH. Plus I wouldn't say he'd be any better than JDM who in my view fits the role like a glove.

Selleck is not 40 any more! He'd be way too old for the role now.

And while Viggo would make a very good Man-at-Arms, he would make an even better Skeletor! And that is my choice for Skeletor in the first place. Tell me you don't like the sound of that!

Well I didn't expect Transformers 2 to have robot testes, but that's what we got. I'm not saying that the new He-Man movie will be R rated, or even that it should be. Only that a writer/director may choose to go that direction.

Anyway, I don't know exactly how old the redhead from GoT is, but she certainly looked like she was in her twenties. I'll have to do some research to know for sure, but I still think she'd be a good choice.

And judging by Jeffrey Dean Morgan's performances in Supernatural and The Watchmen, he could certainly play a convincing Man-At-Arms.

Actually, that sounds very cool.

Viggo could play a toned down and very intense Skeletor.
I'm sure it will work very well.
My first choice is Peter Stormare. Do you think he will camp the role up too much?

Okay, I looked up the name of the actress. Her name is Rose Leslie, and she's 28 years old.

She totally looks the part.

^And she will be in the early 30s before the film comes.

Do you want a 55-year old Man-At-Arms?

You're right. Unfortunately, because he would suit the role very well.

Rose Leslie and Gemma Arterton are my two tentative choices for Teela. Ironically both are currently doing Witch Hunter movie franchises! (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and The Last Witch Hunter)

I'm looking other people up as we speak.

Stormare has a very stereotypical way of acting, at least lately where he seems to be channeling his Prison Break character in every role. I think that would just not work if you want a serious movie.

You're right. Unfortunately, because he would suit the role very well.

JDM played a very convincing patriarch for a couple of 20 year olds about 10 years ago. He'd fit right in for the father of a 30 year old.

And anyway, I don't think Teela will be in the 30s in the film. It's either late 20s like the original cartoon or very early 20s like in the 2000s cartoon.

So, what do you people prefer?

Personally, I like her to be more mature like the original cartoon and be leader of the royal guard.

Neve Campbell and Drew Barrymore were in their early twenties when they played high school students in Scream. You don't have to be in your early twenties to play a character in their early twenties. As long as you look the part and can act, that's all that matters.

As for Man-At-Arms, why not make him 55? If he was Captain of the Guard when he was 30, and then adopted Teela, when she's all grown up at 25 he would be 55. Makes perfect sense. Besides, just because you're in your fifties doesn't mean you can't still be a tough fighter. Look at The Undertaker for example. He wrestled in the WWE from 1992 up until 2014. Not sure how old he was when he first arrived in the WWE, but he was certainly in his fifties by the time he retired. And he hardly lost a step even in his later matches.
