Is that Kevin Smith run any good? That edition is pretty pricey.

It was supposed to be a Deluxe edition... Too bad, since it's more affordable than Absolute editions.

I didn't read all of it back then but I remember Quiver being pretty good. It's also a pretty important part of the mythos since it's basically the story that brought Ollie back from the dead for good. That was Kevin Smith's hook actually. "Ollie is my favorite DC guy and deserves to be back in the comic books" and then DC said "sure what the hell have a go at it". It also introduced Mia (Speedy II) who I hear has a pretty big role in Arrow.

I see. I guess one should read the comics that came before as well in order to fully appreciate it?

So I finished reading this series and good God is it all over the place! My opinion on the series seems to be the same as everyone else's. The first 16 issues (the first 3 trades) were crap. Then Lemire came on and wrote Green Arrow gold. He left far too soon allowing Keinsburg or whatever his name is to come in and write a mediocre story tieing the comic closer to the show.

I actually read Lemire's run first and was so impressed with it that it compelled me to labor through the rest. His run was iconic and I have no idea how DC could have let that creative team go. It baffles the mind. It reminded me of Matt Fraction's Immortal Iron Fist, which I'm a huge fan of. I hated seeing that run end.

The final run that was closer to Arrow was decent, but following Lemire's run, it was destined to flop. And what made it more frustrating is that, as a fan of the show, everything about the run just felt like they were trying to cram EVERYTHING from the show into one story. TV show tie-ins came first, plot second. The more I think about it the less I like it and am glad for a new creative team with issue 41.

Seriously though, I want Lemire and I, Vampire artist dude back.

Well considering that I had been reading Green Arrow comic books for 13 years when Quiver started it certainly helped so I'd say yeah cause the context is different. Ollie was my Green Arrow so it was good to see him back and realizing life after death. It also had some of the best Hal Jordan as Spectre moments.

It's not essential to read everything before then though. It works as a stand alone story and also serves as the beginning of a greater comic book epic down the line that runs for over 70 issues.

I read Quiver with no real knowledge of Oliver or his past and enjoyed it immensely. It's fine for new readers.

DC's Absolute editions are oversized hardcovers that come in slipcases. Deluxe editions are a little bit larger than regular hardcovers (New 52 stuff) and come with a dustjacket, but are smaller than Absolute editions.

On Amazon Canada, that Absolute Green Lantern costs almost 90 dollars while the paperback edition costs 13 dollars (around 25-30 for the hardcover).

For 90 bucks, I could get the first volume of Geoff Johns's Green Lantern run in omnibus and that gives me over 1200 pages of story.

It feels so good to see the Oliver Queen I grew up with pop up once again. Especially since he wasn't phased out in the greatest way initially (the Star City forest story). It's gonna be a great refresher after all these years of avoiding New 52 GA and Batman Lite over in the CW TV universe.

Green Arrow is imprisoned by Mr. Zimm! Despite Oliver’s effort to raise Emi as a safe normal kid, she has no choice but to gear up and take to the streets. How can she possibly save Arrow and the citizens of Seattle from the Zimm’s army of Panopticons bots?!

I ordered the vol 6 with the last of Lemire's issues today, and also there seems to be a Lemire omnibus coming next year.

Yup, that's the one I'm waiting for. Hopefully DC does an omni of Azzarello's WW run too.

I really liked the latest issue. It is only issue but it looks like Percy might have a solid run on Green Arrow.

Liked the Grell's Steak House Easter egg.

Yeah, I really dug the latest issue. Set up an interesting story, and I loved the art.

I know it's just their first issue, but I already hope they have a nice long run on the book.
