I still don't give a damn about a Flash movie. He is far too bland for me.

I'm not argueing that. But they need to slowly build this stuff up and Flash is a much more obvious, lesser stepping stone than GL is. It's just using wisdom in business choices. WB/DC seem to be lacking in that dept. based on this turn of events.

The Flash us a bit more grounded and pulpy fun; Should have been the first that came out of DC Ent.

months ago we almost all agreed that GL was the perfect DC movie f. its big in scope, has aliens, space police and a character that is funny and a hero.

You don't understand, it's a fact that 3D is the only reason that Thor did 10mil more in it's opening weekend. The ticket sales were about the same. I have actual numbers and don't need to speculate at all.

well if xmen had more names the ticket sales wouldn't have been equal then.

I agree, comparing it to Transformers 2 doesn't work. The bad reviews won't be a problem if the audience likes it enough. I don't think they will but I mention it because there is always a chance, even if it is a 1% chance.

Transformers 1 received a rotten rating if I remember correctly, still pulling in more than any film this summer domestically. Maybe GL has a shot.
I mean campbell is better than Bay...

Big in scope also means a bigger risk of ****ing it up. Which THEY DID. There's something to be said for the slow & steady = wins the race mentality.

GL is a great property to bring to the bigscreen. They just should have hired a different director and got together a far better script. And eventhough she wasn't bad Blake Lively's role should have went to an older actress.

Transformers was/is known world wide and was a toy phenomina for a long time. GL doesn't have that kind of recognition.

lets not kid ourselfs. a Flash movie from WB would not be under 160 millions. so it would be expensive and small in scope. at least with GL they can have big action and a lot of money shots . from flying to construsts. :woot:now if WB did this or nto with GL is something i wil have to see. :awesome:

All I'm saying is that Flash is an easier concept for Joe Schmoes to understand and get behind. And it likely could have been done for less $ than a GL movie would cost(though given WB's foolishness with spending $, I wouldn't be suprised if they squandered that aspect).

I don't really agree about the Flash thing. A character's who's only power is running really fast would have been a hard sale too IMHO.

GL could have been a Star Trek level of success domestically if it had been just as good. And it would have easily killed Trek overseas too. (I still think that it's going to gross at least 150mil overseas)

but GI Joe did.
just saying all will be made clear after this weekend.

I do think we should at least wait for the friday and better yet weekend numbers before we call this movie a boxoffice failure.

Exactly, even Batman & Robin and Hulk made equivalents of 70 million and 80 million respectively in their first weekend, this movie has only been out a few hours. Plus it is excluding 3D figures.

Showtime and Filmnerdjamie. what do you think will happen with DC and their movies if GL underperforms ? only batman and superman or could Flash happen even if GL underperforms?

do you think if GL does bad at the BO that WB will think that the general public doesnt like fantasy space scifi superhero movies ?

thanks

I think that Flash is the most directly effected. Superman and Batman are always safe. It could lead up to a Batman/Superman film instead of a Justice League if it fails miserably.

The other direction is, you might still see Lantern but only if Batman/Superman are also involved. ie a Trinity of some sort.

thanks. do you maybe know if the budget without marketing was close to 250?

i got some info from an cgi artist that told me that in the last 4 month they were sweating like Dwayne Johnson in Fast Five. they even joked that sometimes they got a feeling like everyone was expecting from them to just urinate in their pants. in februar they were doing stuff that should already be done in november/december. so when it comes to CGI it looked like a rushed production. i guess planing is not something that WB and Cambel likes :oldrazz:they started working on GL very fast.so this had to make the budget very very very high.

i personal dont belive that the budget was 300 with marketing.to low hehehe

not that it matters. the ticket is the same if the budget is 100 or 200. but i like when money is not thrown out of the window .

Budget was most likely around $240 Million +. I think Finke said the domestic marketing alone was $100 million which I find crazy.

with no super bowl showing, a bad teaser and no ads till ("after the effects were done") the last minute?
I'd lol, but the movie opening big might make me resent it.

I think Flash works best in an ensemble.

You couldn't even MAKE a Green lantern story until now because of the lack of imaging technology, but so far we've had two versions of a live action Flash. The 90's TV Show and the Flash on Smallville. So it can be done and since it was television, it can be done cheaply. With flash there's also such a great rogue's gallery, the Flash rogues are an entity in themselves. I'd love to see that somehow translated on screen, instead of the regular mad billionaire/mad scientist/mad cloud villains we had so far.
