I personally did like MCD's performance as Kilowog. It wasn't Shakespearan but was very decent.

My personal choice... Adam Baldwin.

I thought MCD was amazing. The movie could have used a lot more Kilowog.

It will happen, it's only a matter of when. I just hope JLA can make it sooner rather than later. Spawn and Daredevil fans have been clamoring for respective reboots for over a decade. I hope that isn't GL's fate.

Yeah ! Adam Baldwin is a good choice. He's got the physicality, and the size to sell the character under a bunch of CGI. And of course he's great at gruff, tough characters.

I'd love to see Mark Strong return to the role, he's got the look and the
mannerisms that I always imagined Sinestro would have.

If he's unavailable, what about Robert Knepper,T-Bag from Prison Break ?
That guy just oozes evil, but can be charming too.

Good suggestions.

Again, I think Strong is the number one choice. He nailed it in GL (probably the only good thing and the only decent performance in that film), he absolutely got Sinestro's arrogance and swagger, and of course has the look (almost without the makeup).

Also, and this is just IMO. Whenever I think of Sinestro in the comics,
I imagine him speaking with a very condescending British accent, with very
particular and precise enunciation of every word.
This would probably be my only issue with Knepper, but the accent he used
in Prison Break would also suit the character.
I just always think of Sinestro speaking in a very deliberate and precise
manner.

Also, Sinestro has to be just a little bit likeable. He needs a bit of charm.


Armitage could pull off the look, but I don't find him as menacing or likeable as Strong, or Knepper. Mikkelsen, I can take him seriously as a tough guy, but Sinestro has a lot of charisma, he's a leader, not so sure about Mads in that kind of role.


Jason Isaacs, could certainly carry off the important aspects of the character (and has as much villain cred as Strong). If Strong's not available, he might be a worthy replacement.

The key issue is, will Sinestro appear ?

Except that I think that Armitage and Strong are quite similar. Thorin is also a character who's both friend and foe at the same time, and I thought he played it well.

Maybe he does lack that menacing quality though. Strong had a perfect balance.

Totally agree. GL is the most sci-fi/space Opera, of all the DC heroes,
WTF didn't they build on that ?

While it's good to show up on Earth once in a while, so many of the best GL stories are completely based in the distant parts of the Galaxy ( except maybe Rebirth and Blackest Night). The best bits of the Sinestro Corps war
happened away from Earth. Well that's IMO.

Are you sure ? Besson's experience with sci-fi blockbusters is
limited to the 5th Element, which was tremendous fun, but really stupid IMO (and the Chris Tucker bit was just annoying).

I've always thought of Besson as the master of the slick action flick
( The Professional - a real gem, and of course the Transporter).
I just can't see him being the right guy, as GL crosses the action/sci-fi/super hero genre.

IMO Del Toro has the chops to pull it off, (at very least the visual realisation skills to make it look amazing). Also, while I wasn't a Hellboy
fan, have to say that he really kicked it up a notch with Pacific Rim.
Yeah, that was every sports cliché mixed up with Godzilla meets Mecha Godzilla, but it was such a guilty pleasure you can forgive all the contrivances.

Another thought. An up and coming director who has an amazing visual style and handles sci-fi reasonably well, Joseph Kozinski.
Say what you want about the story of Tron 2, but the visuals are stunning
(sometimes I watch that film just to look at the background). Oblivion
was actually a pretty decent film (despite having Tom Cruise in it).

Either of these guys could do a better job, and would feel more at home in the genre than Besson. But that's just IMO, out of interest, why do you
think Besson would be the right choice ? I don't want to argue with you,
and respect your opinion, but maybe you've thought of something I haven't.

In my dreams, James Cameron would take this on. Imagine the energy he put into Avatar (story wise not a great film, but wow, you get lost in the visuals, and some pretty good performances), imagine that energy in a GL
film. Simply put. Wow ! The guy is a master of sci-fi. Again IMO>

I guess it depends on how serious the new GL movie (fingers crossed )
is , but if it's a bit on the lighter side, that could really work.

Plus Arnie needs to redeem himself after his terrible outing as Mr. Freeze.

Fair point, you'd have to say Hellboy was more fantasy/superhero,
whereas Pacific Rim is sci-fi/Godzilla.

Still, IMO that gives him more cred with similar material than Besson,
particularly with GL.

Having said that, 5th elephant is pretty much straight sci-fi (action/comedy) so in a purer sense, I suppose you're right.

However, while it was fun I don't think 5th was handled anywhere near
as well as Del Toro handled his films - and his visual style would lend
itself well to a GL universe, populated with strange creatures and exotic locations.

Again, just IMO, but I still think Besson wouldn't be the optimal choice,
compared to Del Toro or Kozinski.

Kosinski or Bloomkamp for me when it comes to directing a GL film.

In my new vid, I talked about directors that I'd like to see direct a Flash/GL team up movie. To reiterate some points, Kosinski is my favorite of the bunch, since his whole Tron aesthetic could translate really well to both powersets.

Other names I threw around were Doug Liman, Shawn Levy (now that he's got Real Steel under his belt), Louis Leterrier, and DJ Caruso.
