Green Lantern reboot ideas.

I am totally on board with this. Seriously, Dwayne would knock this out of the park as John Stewart.

(and while I don't really care if they connect the TV shows with the movies, pairing little fanboy Gustin with The Rock would be hilarious).

That would be SOOOOOO hilarious. I'd love to see them teamup. Too bad it'll, like, never happen. Sigh.

So if JL comes out in 2017, Rock will be 44. And at the very earliest, a solo GL movie would come out in 2020, where he will be 47. Certainly getting up there.

I think they'll reboot the GL series after Justice League with one movie with John Stewart, where he will probably die, leaving the ring for an Alan Scott, or Hal Jordan, or Guy Gardner?

Making John Stewart the first Lantern rubs me the wrong way for some reason. I I might be alright if the opposite scenario happened, but doing it this way just makes no sense to me. It's like having Dick Grayson disappear and hand the mantle of Batman down to his apprentice Bruce Wayne. It would feel too backwards.

Also, Alan Scott isn't typically portrayed as a member of the GL Corps with the blue midget Guardians... he gets his power from something called the Starheart. And, as far as I know, it doesn't come from the ring. The ring is aesthetic.

UPDATE: After reading your previous post, I guess you win. But I still don't like it.

I hope that they at least reference Hal being first or talk about him being off world with the Corps while John fills in on Earth. That would take some of the "whaaat?" out of this idea.

But the Rock? That's pretty sweet! He can definitely pull off an ex-military vet type pretty well. And he'll likely add some personality flair to the character.

The important thing is he won't be getting old alone. Cue Affleck.

Denzel as the vet John Stewart
Bradley Cooper as the rookie Hal Jordan

Then do a cop movie like Training Day, but in space.

"Parallax aint got **** on me!"

Stop casting Bradley Cooper for every superhero, please.

But he'd be a perfect __________.
And Idris Elba would make an amazing __________.

Seriously, Cooper would be nice in some roles, same as Elba. But there are some roles they are recommended for that make no sense to me.

He's a great actor, and he'd make a fantastic Flash or Green Lantern, but yeah I too am getting tired of seeing that suggestion...

Thanks, bro :)

It should be Gyllenhaal for GL, but I doubt he's interested.
Then offer Zegers the role.

Hasn't Cooper been suggested for Aquaman as well?

Yeah he's been suggested for that, Batman, and pretty much every other male superhero.

I need to watch more of Zegers... i keep seeing him suggested for stuff but I'm not that familiar with his work

Agreed. I mean yeah, him and Elba would be good choices, but we got to look at things realistically though. I think for Hal, if they want to go for an out of left field choice, I could see someone like James Franco pulling it off. Him or Taylor Kitsch.

No need to reboot....... include the 2011 GL movie into the current DC universe, just recast Hal Jordan, ignore certain aspects shown in the earlier movie that conflict with current continuity (tie it loosely ). Introduce John Stewart in the movie as a new GL.

As it is ... reboot won't ensure success.. as people would be dismissive of another GL movie as the first one did not do well.

Has it been suggested yet 2 make Blade, Black Panther & Luke Cage white so that Cooper can play those as well ?

So basically, reboot it. Because there really isn't anything in the 2011 movie that is slightly compatible with MoS.

In addition to including almost nothing from 2011 since it conflicts with MOS, if you don't want people to associate this film with the original, wouldn't a reboot be a better idea with a sequel... basically, make it as different from 2011 as possible?

I think that a GL reboot would not excite many people. The 2011 movie followed Hal Jordan's origin story more or less faithfully, redoing the same would be a bad idea as the story itself is not that exciting or complex.

Best way would be to recast Hal Jordan, introduce John Stewart as the new GL and move forward. After all, The Incredible Hulk did not do well commercially and critically but still, Marvel Studios have wisely avoided a reboot of Hulk and included him straight in Avengers team instead of ignoring the earlier movie (TIH.)

Similarly, don't ignore the 2011 Green Lantern movie, take that parts that worked , Mark Strong as Sinestro, Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller and Geoffery Rush as Tomar Re and move forward.

So basically, reboot it. Because there really isn't anything in the 2011 movie that is slightly compatible with MoS.

I see it differently.

Also, I think that Chiwetel Ejiofor, is perfect for John Stewart than "Rock" who I think is a better fit for Black Adam / Lobo.

Hooo...leee...crap. :wow:

Ah...no, no they didn't. Not surprisingly, the elements that were drawn from GL Vol. 1, Emerald Dawn, Secret Origin, etc..were the ones that worked. It was the new elements (the screwed-up Parallax, the screwed-up Hector with his ridiculous daddy issues, and Hal wussing out after fighting Sinestro) that hampered the movie's progression.

I hope that all 4 of the major GL characters have movies or live-action TV appearances in my lifetime. If adapted faithfully from the comics, they should all be easy to translate.

It was the new elements (the screwed-up Parallax, the screwed-up Hector with his ridiculous daddy issues, and Hal wussing out after fighting Sinestro) that hampered the movie's progression. When Hal quits the Corps, you can almost see the WB execs stepping in to meddle for the sake of the GA sheeple. That's always a mistake.

Tru dat ! Movies don't always have to religiously follow comic books (in fact often its best when they don't, well not religiously anyway). But, when you substitute solid stuff from the comic, for, well crap, you get crappy results. And Hal wussing out, um......no, nuh-uh, if there's one thing Hal Jordan never does, it's wuss out, he'll do stubborn, jackass, hot-headed
stuff, but he doesn't give up or quit. (Best part of JL origins is when Darkseid breaks his arm and Batman has to talk him out of getting himself killed).

BTW does anyone think GL would have been a better film if all they did was change the casting of Ryan Reynolds, and Blake Lively ?

I think that it would have still been a mediocre film but that's still better than the delusions-of-mediocrity film that it was.

Reynolds was sooo unlikeable as Jordan, and Lively was terrible as Carol
Ferris. Yeah, the story wasn't great, and the Hammond stuff was rubbish (worst DC villain on screen yet !), but casting can make up for a lot.
Just a thought.

Also, they should have dropped out a lot of that other stuff,
in fact, if they'd had the first movie be just, Hal joins corps, trained by Sinestro, Sinestro turns evil, grabs yellow ring, Hal has to take him down,
that would have been awesome - simple stories work the best.

Anyway, with the Rock as John Stewart (well it looks that way) that's at least a casting choice that's going to help. The Rock has been in some pretty average films (e.g. the Tooth Fairy) but he's always fun in them, the guy's got a lot of presence and charm.

Also, I'm still backing Karl Urban as Hal Jordan ! He and the Rock were in that terrible Doom movie together, and were still pretty good.

But yeah, Cooper could pull of Either Jordan, or Gardner !

Although Sean William Scott would be great as Guy, he does the annoying ******* thing brilliantly.

Given that Scar Predator is on Team Cooper, what about Cooper as the Flash ? I reckon he would be perfect as Barry Allen, he would carry off Barry's sense of humour, quick-wittedness, and honest charm brilliantly.

Although, given that he's Rocket Raccoon, he could also play Chp'

although personally I'd prefer Chris Pine, as Flash, but that's just me.

again, just IMO.

Oh yeah, and the next GL film, I reckon should feature Stel, with the right
voice he'd be awesome.
