On a side note, I think a big reason these movies skew domestic compared to other Marvel movies is a big selling point is their humor, which doesn't always translate well to other languages/countries.
After the success of the first one - this should have easily hit 1 billion, it's a disappointment. You have Chris Pratt leading which is one of the hottest commodity's in Hollywood, paired up with it being a sequel and the hype surrounding this movie, and a 91% rotten tomatoes score, and let's not forget all the marketing they did.

I wanted GOTG Vol. 2 to make $1B because I thought it would be important for the MCU for a movie without Iron Man AND in the coveted May slot to do so.
And I thought GOTG2 had more of a chance then S:HC and T:R.
I wouldn't call it a disappointment but disappointing if that makes sense. But I also never considered that the American humor being detrimental on the foreign market.
Edit: Also, it appears it can outgross GOTG by around $100M, that's still pretty good for a sequel.
Exactly what I said, but people think I'm the one trolling. :/ GotG success from the first one on top of everything else going for it, it should have made a billion, I have little hope for spider-man hitting the billion, and with prior installments of Thor doing poorly, even if Ragnarok ends up being a great film, I feel will suffer on two accounts of JL stealing steam from it & it's poor predecessor's.
Now, in the last 3 years marvel has had at least one billion dollar movie.
First avengers 1, followed by IM3, followed by Winter soldier, and then most recently Civil War.
I do think Guardians given the low amount of competition it's had to face, should and I do believe Marvel was planning on this being there really big heavy hitter.
It's obviously not a bad movie, but I'm positive this will be a disappointment from what they were projecting with it.
Yep.It isn't a disappointment to those of us who knew this wouldn't hit a billion.

To be fair, it won't stay there.Locked to be the fourth biggest MCU film in history.
3rd biggest movie worldwide of 2017.
What a disaster.

Well let me tell you, I don't watch American or British movies in the cinema unless I can find an original showing. I live in a country where everything gets dubbed and it never works. It's not just the humor (which almost never works dubbed). It's often the very thing someone says that has a totally different meaning original vs dubbed because the dubbed needs to match the lip movements. So when you watch the dubbed and then the original you are like WTF. It's the same for me with TV shows btw. I can't do it anymore with the dubbing.I wouldn't call it a disappointment but disappointing if that makes sense. But I also never considered that the American humor being detrimental on the foreign market.
