Guess who the new writer of runaways is.

What's wrong with a comic book like Runaways reaching a wider audience? If they come aboard when he comes aboard and leaves when he leaves, what's the big deal? For that matter, what's wrong with reading books just because your favorite writer is writing them? Isn't that the point? Every single person here has an affinity to one writer or another and often follows that writer across different projects. How many of you here have said something like "[Writer] is going to write this book? I'm totally there." or "I think I'll drop this book when [Writer] leaves."? How is that in any way different from this situation?

And it's not like Joss is Justin Timberlake or something, I doubt there will be all that many "mainstreamers" drawn to his name just for the sake of his name. Most fans of Whedon are already genre fans.

I paved that road:mad:.

The only downside is what will this mean for the new serenity mini that's supposed to be coming out next year, oh and buffy season 8 as well. I hope joss can handle it

Very true, not so much on the Serenity mini, but on the Buffy season 8 comic. It should be fine, I think, he's only writing like, the first 4 issues, and then handing it off to other members of the old Buffy writing team.

That's true, unfortunately. Unless he's got a lot of this stuff already written -- which is pretty unlikely in itself:hyper: -- I definitely forsee some lateness.

I sold it to AOL for a lifetime subscription

I would never sell my Whedon love. I guess that's just the difference between us.:o

It was a mutual agreement. Sort of like pimping, but with less purple.

The fact that Whedon is coming on is great news as far as I am concerned. A big name writer who will bring a load of attention onto the title, whislt also keeping it true to the core concept and can seem to handle the style of writing suited to a book like Runaways.

The only problem I have is, how late is this title going to be fron now on? Joss is a very busy man. Buffy and Serenity projects coming up, plus the Wonder Woman movie. How is going to find time to write all of them?

To be honest, for runaways I think he'll make time, he talks endlessly about how it's his favourite book. Buffy and serenity books I can see being delayed but this is like a dream project for him so I can't see runaways getting put on the back burner. Shame we have to lose him on astonishing though :(

I certainly hope so, I need my monthly Runaways fix. Yeah, AXM is the only X title I read right now and would have loved for him to continue. But if I had to choose him on AXM on Runaways, Runaways would win every time.

Molly is one my all time favourite characters, now imagine her with whedon doing her one-liners...*starts running round the room in fits of glee*...so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(see how many exclamation marks I used!!!!!)

Honestly, while delays are a concern, I'd much rather be getting a bi-monthly (not that I'm saying it's going to be that:o) Runaways book that's actually good - even great - than a monthly that doesn't live up to BKV's greatnessness.

Firstly I shall be using that word in as many posts as possible from now on.

Secondly, there's gonna be changes no matter what happens, however based on whedon's previous body of work he won't make a change that isn't justified and well supported by what has happened so far. I mean christ, this guy managed to bring colossus back from the dead without it sucking. I think we're in safe hands.

on a final note

Actually, its fans like yourself that have made me really start to dislike Whedon as a whole.

Sadly, Whedon doesnt hold a candle to BKV when it comes to comic book writing.

Those rugged good looks, those smouldering eyes, whedon for the new malboro man!

I just call them like I see 'em. It be a lot easier for me to fall in line with the Whedon is God people, but I really dont believe that.

He's only written one mainstream comic. What are the other comics he's written that you've read?

He's not god, season 7 of buffy proved that point but he's a very talented writer who has a passion for the project. It's not like they're giving it to Brian "production line" Bendis.

But to take Bendis as the example his best stuff is the stuff he's most passionate about, Alias, Powers, Daredevil. Joss is the right writer because it will gain a for the fans by a fan feel.

He's no Vaughan (but equally I doubt vaughan could write a regular tv show as well as joss does) but of all of marvel's current writers he, for my mind is the perfect fit.

Fray. And really, his whole run on AXM after Gifted has been slightly above average, nothing really to write home about.

Fray
Serenity: those left behind

ok so not many but they do exist :o

Good thing im not talking about tv writing. :oldrazz:

right, that's it. I'm gonna form a gang with photojones and we'll have nightly meetings to talk about how you suck and once a week we'll make a bonfire out of x-factor back issues! :oldrazz:

But they're not much different. The structures of a TV script and a comic script are very similar.
