Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Nooooooooo he needs to come back and kill it like Mickey Rourke did (and countless others). Sometimes people can lose it and then they find that role which defines them all over again. This could be it for Will (obvious 90s child speaking here. I have a soft spot for him)

If it has not happened by now it wont people are rejecting him for him trying to force his kid in movies After Earth effectively killed his career at least for solos & if his agent has not got him back on track perhaps he needs a new one ?

My vote is either Big Willie or Seth MacFarlane. Either of those two I'd be fine with.

He's in talks, so it could always fall through but something tells me that Will Smith won't say no to this like he did with Dumbo. I think he still has it in him to pull off the Genie too. His charisma hasn't changed much in the past 20 years and Disney won't let him run wild (i.e. have his kids cast in the movie). I personally would have gone with Dwayne Johnson, but I have no problem with Will Smith as an actor/entertainer.

You could say that about anyone. I mean even Tom Cruise has trouble opening up a non Mission Impossible movie.

Tom Cruise has more variety in his roles & at least knows what works for him

Will Smith clearly went down the wrong career path

 every tom cruise movie has been the same for past decade

will smith does comedies, romance, action and drama films

whats the last time tom stretched his acting chops

"Aladdin...there's something coming...and it's big. You get three wishes...that's it. No more, no less...and these wishes....they can't be used in certain ways. I'm going to tell you them, in their exact order right now, the dossier I had has been compromised, so pay close attention." - Tom Cruise as the Genie

& how do we know they did not do something stupid like let Jaden show up in something Star Wars related if he gets this ?

Because Disney is bigger than Will Smith. If he had demands like that, they would probably show him the door.

Could have said the same about Robert Downey jr. prior to 2008.

Two different situations the main thing here is Will Smith has already peaked

The point, which seems to be bouncing off your skull, is that careers can turn around at any time. All it takes is the right role at the right time.

Now, Idk if Smith raped your dog or ran over your mama or stole your lunch money, but your strange need to believe his career is over and rejection of the fact that actors can turn their careers around is more than a bit weird.

& my point is that its very likely that if Will does not get a new agent as the current one has been doing a very bad job outside of Suicide Squad his career likely wont turn around its been long enough with this agent

I agree he probably does need a new agent. Tho I have to wonder just how much is his agent and how much of the problem is Smith's ego. No denying the man thinks he is hot ****. That creates its own sort of career problems. Sometimes the key to fixing a career is learning some humility. That might be hard for Smith.

I also imagine he did not wanna be type cast for action / comedy roles

But hey look at Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy & many others

They all tried different things & instead of them going back to what they do best their careers back fired on them

Just like Tom Cruise would have no career if he kept on trying dramas & he went back to what hes best with action & even went into sci-fi movies

Will Smith should have went back to basics when After Earth bombed & return to the type of fun loving characters he did in Bad Boys & Independence Day & Men In Black. That was Will Smith at his best type cast or not that was Will Smith at his best

Will Smith is still a big draw. You give a role that because actually care about like Genie instead of a original character or an unknown character and people will come.

Whether I watch this movie depends entirely on the casting of Aladdin...and whether my niece is in town and wants me to watch it with her when its released in theaters.

If they're smart they'll make the Genie as far as RW's version as they can. It's not a character they can recreate with anyone else.

Will Smith as the Genie does work if they're going for the Fats Waller/Cab Calloway showman which Howard Ashman thought the Genie should be like and which they use for the stage musical version,

I wonder if Will will have to sing or if they can get away with him rapping?

I wouldn't be surprised if Abu is cut and replaced with Babkak, Omar and Kaseem.

I imagine he'd have to sing, but "Friend Like Me" and "Prince Ali" aren't exactly tough songs to perform.

Will Smith is as far removed from Robin Williams as you can get, so it probably wouldn't be bad casting.

As was the live action versions of every living object in Beauty and the Beast. Yet they still did it. Hell, about 95% of the live action Jungle Book was uncanny valley horror to me but it still made bank.
