Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Oh, I’ll definitely give it a chance - I’ll even give it the benefit of the doubt for now: but it just doesn’t look entirely great yet. Honestly, there are bits where it looks a bit cheap. The scene in the city is so clearly a set, it’s not even funny: though the wide shots are beautiful. And some of the costumes look like Halloween costumes to me, not in a good way. But I’ll wait for a full trailer before I make any further judgements.
Guys, you complained the exact same way about the Beauty and the Beast remake 2 years ago. And that turned out fine regardless. I know Guy Richie's an easy target as of late, but all I ask is be nice. Besides, this is just a quick preview for the Grammys. We'll have a full trailer soon. I'm seeing the movie anyway. Also, WTF CARES how Jafar sounds? That's kinda petty if you ask me! That's my final say on this matter.

Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, hell ****ing nope.

Actually, no. Loved the look of Beauty & the Beast right from the get-go. But as I said, this teaser was very short: I’m sure the trailer will be much better.

I mean every movie is a cash grab. But between this, Dumbo, and Lion King, Disney has overdone it this year with these remakes. Audiences aren’t going to flock to all three.
They'll flock to The Lion King, guaranteed. Aladdin will probably make some money due to it having Memorial Day Weekend practically all to itself. Dumbo can go either way.

See, that costume looks ever so slightly too costume-y to me - am I the only one? I think she’s a good actress, though, so ultimately her costume shouldn’t matter.

That's a reasonable statement. It was just a 3-second clip anyway. I'm sure he'll look fine in more scenes.

Costumes look fine. Jafar’s voice is corny and blue Will looked bad

Yeah Dumbo is a toss up. I don’t think kids really know it as well as the more recent animated hits. And Burton fit well with Alice in Wonderland, but Dumbo has more of a Big Fish vibe that may not sell well for a blockbuster.

In all seriousness, how the hell could anyone at Disney honestly say to themselves that Genie looked good? How the hell could this have been approved?

That looks horrible, horrible. Why would you let Guy Ricthe direct it anyways? Man this is not gonna end well.

Why this movie would be made in the first place is beyond me. There are some performances that simply can't be topped, and whilst I know Smith's Genie is going to be it's own thing the reality is Robin Williams version is so entrenched in pop culture that anything that Smith does is not going to measure up to Robin. This CG .....thing, just makes it look worse.

I know Disney gets a lot of love, but other than Marvel and Pixar, they have dropped the ball a whole lot. Star Wars box office and merchandise sales have nose dived, and their Walt Disney originals like Marry Poppins and Wrinkle in time have been grossly underwhelming.

It's because they don't actually have the creative heads like they use to. There's a reason Disney bought up Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel, it's because those companies developed and established brand. The only real success Disney has had in live action over the last 20 years is the Pirates movies. Everything else has either failed or been just a copy of something they did better 25 years ago.

General comment (not related to Genie):

Should we never get another Joker then? And should TDK have been the last ever Batman film? I don’t see why you need to top something to be considered good or to be able to justify existing. If you’re an 8/10, you’re an 8 regardless if you are following a 7 or a 10, and as worth a watch as any other 8.

Genie looks exactly like I imagined he would back when Will Smith was announced. I respect the dislike, but I do wonder how it deviates from what people were expecting if they were hoping to like it but didn't. Jafar is the bigger "Wha?" from me... a bit bland-looking.

They should have just had him in human form, adding a blue CGI body was never a good idea.

As someone else suggested, giving him a sort of ethereal glow would have helped. Right now he looks like Will Smith painted blue.

It's not the same and you know it. The Joker is a character who has consistently been reinvented for decades, he's malleable because you can tell a hundred different Joker stories. This is literally the exact same story as the one told 25 years ago, using the same visual cues, style and music, it's basically doing everything in its power to remind you of the movie that came out when you were a kid, except it doesn't have the thing literally everybody loved and remember about that movie. If this was an Aladdin that was completely removed from that film then you would be 100% correct. But this isn't.
