Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

After watching that trailer...I wanna know who thought it was a good idea to release that awful genie tease before this trailer, and then I wanna know if that person was fired or demoted from ever making such decisions again. This trailer was like night and day and this should have been the first glimpse of the genie.
I completely agree. I was nervous about watching this trailer but mostly everything looked more or less fine to me. I'm actually looking forward to this again.

I finally saw the trailer. It always confuses me how a movie can look so expensive and some how cheap at the same time. I think I am going to see this in theaters. If simply for Jasmine. Though overall it looks like it could be fun.

Expensive but cheap looking is exactly how it looks.

It's too pretty. The clothes look like costumes off a rack rather than lived in clothing. The locations look like obvious sets, backlots, and composited backgrounds. It gives everything an artificial theatrical appearance. Like a stage production of sorts.

Ironically, Dumbo, a film centering around a circus production and characters wearing costumes looks much more real to me.

I hope we get to see Genie shooting a stream of magic from his fingertip at least once in the movie. I've always loved how Genie takes aim and fires magic from his finger like a pistol in the animated movie.

Just noticed the carpet was doing the Carlton dance :chd:
I was just about to post this. With the maracas at about 1:02 in the trailer!

Was kinda luke warm about this as Aladdin was one of my favourite films growing up & much like the most recent Ghostbusters film, I didn't want a remake coming out bastardising one of my favourite childhood films...

BUT, this new trailer has me officially interested in seeing the film, Jasmine's not only a solid 10 but she's got a fantastic voice (I assume it's her singing), Will Smith still looks a little odd when he's blue for some reason but I'm very encouraged by everything else I've seen of him & the same with Aladdin.

Jafar just seems so disinterested. His attitude seems to be, "Yeah, if you could get the lamp, that'd be great".

Something is off with their clothing imo. I don't know but they feel kinda cheap looking. And yeah Jafar seems very boring.

Still I'm interested, it's my favorite Disney movie, I'm sold on Will Smith as the Genie(the CGI does seem a bit off at times but it's not as awful as the first trailer).

Also I was wondering how they were going to handle A Whole New World sequence without it looking ridiculous and after watching the trailer... Yeah that looked kind of laughable. I don't know but some things just works in animation more than anything else.

Genie definitely looks a hell of a lot better in this trailer.

However Jafar looks even worse now I have seen more of him:funny:

Aladdin should have cheap clothing since he’s poor. But everything else looks like a stage production rather than a lived in world as Marvolo stated better.

Yeah, just noticed the problem. I'm not really a fan of this art direction. It just doesn't seem real.

Still a good trailer and definitely get my attention, though.

I think the issue with a lot of disney live action adaptations of their cartoon films is that they make them look like literal stage plays as far as design goes.

I’m guessing it’s probably the last costume she wears at the end after Jafar has been defeated. They’re saving it as a surprise.

Ok, NOW we're talking!

Jafar still looks and sounds totally wrong but everything else looks much better, some nice visuals and camera moves and Will's Genie comes off pretty well while Aladdin and Jasmine look the part.

That was a better trailer but the movie still looks just ok. It does look oddly cheap though. Like I can tell money went into it but there’s something cosplayish about the costumes and the sets/green screen look a little fake too.
Probably the only actor whose performance I’m looking forward to in the film. Her and Alan Tudyk . Will Smith doesn’t look that bad TBH but he’s still just playing himself. Aladdin and Jafar don’t look good IMO. I’m hoping that’s just the trailers though.
