Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

That was a better trailer but the movie still looks just ok. It does look oddly cheap though. Like I can tell money went into it but there’s something cosplayish about the costumes and the sets/green screen look a little fake too.

Probably the only actor whose performance I’m looking forward to in the film. Her and Alan Tudyk . Will Smith doesn’t look that bad TBH but he’s still just playing himself. Aladdin and Jafar don’t look good IMO. I’m hoping that’s just the trailers though.

They should just make a Princess Jasmine movie. That's all I'm interested in it for. The rest of them seem boring or not well done.

I think they missed the carpet on Jafar! I hope I'm proven wrong, but they needed someone like Rickman playing the Sheriff of Nottingham! So far, I don't get a tough/evil vibe from him.

To me, complaining the Smith is playing himself here is on par with complaining that Reynold's just plays himself for Deadpool. Yes, that's kinda the point.

I also think people should consider the idea that Ritchie might not want Jafar to come off as so obviously evil. That's just speculation on my part, but even his dialogue in the trailers so far hasn't come off as truly menacing or evil. There is a whole generation of viewers that will have this be their entry point to Aladdin, so maybe the point is for the marketing to appeal to that audience as well as the older folks. Just a thought.

Yeah I’m playing a wait and see with Jafar cause it’s obvious they’re taking a different approach with him from casting to delivery. I was put off by it at first but now I’m just curious to see what they’re attempting with him.

Yep and do they not realize in the animated film Robin as the Genie was basically playing himself as well. So I don’t see why Will doing the same here is a bad thing honestly. Will is an excellent choice and one that makes a lot of sense to take on this role.

The new trailer is meh. Also Will Smith as Genie just feels so forced. I hope that this end up as a good movie but I won't be surprised if its bad. The cartoon film is one of my fave films from WDAS.

I know I can be entertained by Will Smith playing himself as the genie, and for these larger-than-life personalities, that is exactly what the genie role calls for. You can't cast a regular (good) actor and get them to perform the part unless they already have the gift for this kind of crazy stuff.

Well apparently Gilbert Gottfried isn't too thrilled that he wasn't asked to voice Iago in the new film.

Looks Like Aladdin’s Gilbert Gottfried Isn’t Happy About Being Replaced By Alan Tudyk

What the hell did he expect? To get the same treatment that James Earl Jones got when they asked him to come back to play Mufasa again? Does he really think he's on that level?

And for the record, Tudyk is way more talented than Gottfried (and funnier, for that matter).

Jafar is so overtly, obviously evil in the '93 movie, that I can see why a filmmaker might think "let's do the exact opposite this time."

Right? Like I don’t think the trailer needs to be a greatest hits compilation of the animated film. Part of the appeal of an adaptation, at least for me, is seeing the changes made and whether they work in context.

Jafar is the only thing I'm not liking. Someone like an Oded Fehr type would've been perfect. Ironically he played him on Once Upon a Time.

Well to be fair outside of Williams he was the most recognizable voice.

Yeah, he did. But only when around other people. He don't need it when he and Al are alone.

I've watched a lot of Youtube reactions for this trailer since it hit the internet, and I'm really surprised how deep rooted "A Whole New World" song is impregnated in the collective conscious( especially from 20 to 40 years old). People either cry or in awe when Jasmine started to sing. Even the most hardened seemed genuinely cheerful.

I really hope this movie has the big Arabian Nights intro. That's really the only way to open Aladdin. I don't want it to be just a narrator reading the words while the music plays in the background. Get someone to belt that s**t out so we hear it, loud and clear.
