Good news. Seems like WB is getting a move on their superhero properties faster than Marvel is (considering their acquistion by Disney). GL and Lobo start production next year, while The Losers and JH were shot this year. The competition is heating up...

Well, the only one of those films I would call a superhero property would be GL but I get what you are saying. This is good news to see WB moving on these types of properties. I'll get really excited though once I hear GL has started filming and when serious movement is made on another DC superhero outside of Superman or Batman such as Flash or WW.

then again, besides the violence, it's not like Lobo is still kinda juvenile at its core. And that's a compliment.

It's the samething with Deadpool; I just can't see a Rated R Deadpool movie..especially after X-Men Origins: WOlverine.

Besides, Lobo says 'Frakin' instead of the 'F' word. He'll do fine.

I agree. PG-13 will work fine. Not sure what to think of the whole teenaged girl bit yet though.

OKay, image if this was a Heavy Metal type movie (that's pg-13)..or a Michael Bay or a Rob Zombie type movie...

If they cast a SUPERMODEL as the teenager, then I think it'll fit the TONGUE IN CHEEK tone of the movie.

On the other hand, I could see The Losers doing well.

Joel Silver has been on a failing streak for the past few years. A lot of his movies have either underperformed or outright bombed-- either due to Silver's penchance for reshoots and/or immunity to decent scripts. That said, I want Sherlock Holmes to do well (as well as The Losers), but Silver isn't a producer I can trust.

Or at least, I can't trust him after The Matrix sequels..

"Kinda"? Lobo is totally juvenile. That's the charm of the character. He's a character for the adolescent boy in all of us. Including adolescent boys.

True.

And I do have to say that, because the movie takes place on Earth...and supposedly in Middle America (away from big cities like NY, LA or Chicago.) that's why it got greenlit.

It's gonna be a fairly cheap movie to make..maybe $100 to $120 million to make, if not less.

Kind of awesome news.

If you could just delete the PG-13 and Akiva Goldsman from the article.

The man is in his 60s. Fun idea though.

Man, I cant get Danny in anywhere. I think he is a good physical match anyhow. ah well

I cant help but have the image of Brad Garrett as Lobo either, just because he voiced him in the toons haha (Not saying I'd like him to be Lobo though!)

Vinnie Jones as Lobo would probably work for this... hmm

But I see Lobo having..a New York/Chicago accent for some odd reason and I don't think Jones can tone down his London accent at all.

It's funny this news coming up, when I made this post on the Flash thread just recently:

I'm tempted to say Guy Ritchie could be a good director for The Flash.

I'm unsure, as Ritchie can be pretty hit and miss. For every Snatch or RockNRolla, there is a Swept Away or a Revolver. But what he DOES have, and it's something that I feel is essential for The Flash, is bucketloads of flashy directorial style. Making super-speed seem exciting to a moviegoing audience is going to require some funky editing techniques, some adrenaline-pumping scene composition. And Ritchie is a director who makes great use of elaborate set-ups, quick cuts and time manipulation to really create an immersive experience for the viewer, make them feel the buzz of being right there in the motion of the movie.

Take this for example:

The direction WB is taking with DC movies is pretty interesting. Marvel is getting a whole bunch of its mainstream superhero properties off the ground, sure, a lot more than DC is (though Green Lantern is a sign of progress), but WB/DC have been quietly building up a diverse selection of comic book properties for development, looking outside the mainstream superhero realm. You had the likes of V For Vendetta and Watchmen, and now The Losers, Jonah Hex, Swamp Thing, Deadman and Lobo are all moving forward.

From what I have heard, Hex was made for about $40-50 million, so dont see it struggling to much to make a profit. I hope it does because I hope it becomes a franchise.

Even if Hex doesn't do well, Josh Brolin will probably go back to doing critically acclaimed Oscar-type movies.

$40-50 million isn't huge for an action movie. If Hex opens in the $20 million range the first week or so, it will likely make back it's budget in three weeks.

I like the direction DC is going with their movies. They are using smaller budgets for the lesser known characters, like Jonah Hex and The Losers and saving $200 million or so for when Nolan is done with Inception in time for Batman 3.

I would like to say DC is more diverse than Marvel due to Vertigo. Not to say that Marvel isn't, they have a cute Wizard of Oz series out there too.

Lobo before Flash?

Well it's better than only Batman & Superman movies.

Alright. I thought of how this would work. And I'd love to see Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.... IN SPACE!

Kinda annoys me that they find a director so quickly for Lobo and Superman is still with no one

There's more baggage with Superman as a film franchise. Don't you worry; we'll hear something about Supes by the end of the year. My prediction.

Never thought I would see a Lobo movie!
No one better than Guy Richie is coming to mind, so I'm on board so far.

Now where is our own Lobo to comment on this film being made of him? :o

I don't think it's neccessary to try to find some A-list thespian for this. This thing will be VERY tongue in cheek and ridiculous in its violence and humor.

exactly. Tongue in cheek!

I do have to say that admire the fact that they mentioned the start date for production, so WB/DC is taking this seriously.

But Vinnie Jones...let's not go nuts when I say we don't need a thespian. We do need someone coherent.
