Quick question. In the GoF, Dumbledore made a huge deal about the friendships that they made that year, were important and binding. Did anyone from either of the schools show up to fight Voldemort in the final battle at Hogwarts?

Fleur showed up, mainly because her husband was there. I think the battle happened to fast to reach the other schools.

What friendships? With the exceptions of Krum and Fleur, did they ever befriend any foreign students?

Just because Harry, Ron and Hermione didn't, it doesn't mean that the other few hundred students at Hogwarts didn't either.

I loved the first two movies too, but I think the best part of this series is that they start off with this magical vibe, it's a new, exciting world of wizards and witches and magical creatures and we're experiencing it just like the first year Hogwarts students are...

But the students grow up and their issues become more serious, so the tone of the movies grows up too, gets darker, more serious.

Personally I think that's part of what makes this franchise so brilliant.

I kind of understand Krum not showing up, as his headmaster was a Death Eater, but I thought that maybe Madame Olympe Maxime might have shown up, as her affection for Hagrid was pretty evident.

I'm glad they didn't bring in all the creatures and extraneous characters in the final battle. It just would've looked so random and messy. It was fine in the book because you had time to flesh that out, but not in the movie.

To be honest, I thought Harry's verbal smackdown of Snape in the Great Hall worked better than the Harry-circling-Voldemort that happened in the book (although I loved that in the book). Voldemort wasn't going to listen, he wasn't going to be convinced no matter what Harry said.

But watching Snape looking like he wanted to die as Harry was yelling at him was pretty damn powerful. He couldn't even respond to him.

It definitely worked better than the Voldemort climax. I remember, even reading the scene for the first time, I was just thinking that it wasn't going to work at all. Much too talky.

i just realized something, if harry's house in godric's hallow was all rubble in in DHpt1 then in part 2
in snapes flash back he's inside the house, and its still standing. How did it crumble? I thought it was a result of Voldemorts killing curse backfiring and it caused the house to nearly blow up

i've read the books and i can't really recall the state of the house after the incident, obviously changed for the movies but, a huge error perhaps, or was the house torn down, a result of neglect?

^If I remember correctly the house was fairly damaged when the curse backfired on Voldemort. So in the movie they kept it intact in the flashback, its very logical it would crumble from neglect after about 17 years when Harry/Hermione visit in Part 1.
Also, this could easily be an error within the movies but that's not uncommon, they're found all the time, even huge glaring ones.

bookms headmaster was killed in HBP the book. He tried to hide from Voldenort and obviously he didn't like that lol.

I was a bit disappointed with the treatment of the other schools in the books. Very few of the characters got any attention. I wasn't expecting Harry to become an exchange student, but they (the schools) have very little importance after the fourth book, if any.

Well, they weren't going to have the Triwizard Tournament every year. They really have no reason to be around. Except maybe in the last, but still...

i agree to certain extent. i feel we could have used a larger scope in terms of the story. there's obviously such a huge world that J.K Rowling created, and we only see about 7% of it. i think in the seventh book, instead of having them camp out in some random forest for a good chunk of the book, Rowling should have had them traveling to other continents looking for the Horcruxes (thus showing other cultures within the Magic Community). It would makes sense for Voldemort to scatter them beyond just the Britain/ Scottland region.

That would have been neat. However, Voldy had a need to make an indelible mark on Hogwart's lore for some reason. Probably due to his jealousy of Dumbledore.

Actually in the books, Dumbledore explains why/where Voldemort would hide the Horcruxes, it would be something deeply personal and/or with magical significance. The diary left with the Malfoy family, a prominent pure-blood family, the ring left at his mother's house, descedants of Salazzar Slytherin, the locket in the cave he tortured other kids at the orphanage with magic, the cup in Gringotts and the diadem in Hogwarts

As interesting as all of that was in the book, I'm not sure I liked it really. It makes Voldemort seem like a emotional blithing fool. Shouldn't he be devoid of human emotions? But then again, as Speedball just pointed out, he also gives out free hugs.

I believe Voldemort picked Hogwars because it was the first place he really felt at home. During his time at the orphanage he was ostracized from the other children, though he may have had something to do with that.

Voldemort did spend some time out of Britain. He's mentioned to have spent some time in Albania, but that was after his defeat. If Karkaroff is any indication, Voldemort could have some followers outside of Britain.

They could have easily had Harry visit Beauxbatons or Durmstrang in the 7th book. Would have been more interesting than camping in the woods for weeks in any case.

Having all the Horcruxes in Britain wasn't one of Voldemort's brightest ideas.

Finally saw the movie today...Loved every bit of it!!! Going to see it again in a few days. Exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were very high going in.
