I never read the books (the book readers never seem happy about the movies), but I've seen all of the movies several times and I really enjoy them.

I suppose now would be the time to go back and actually read the books and find out why the book readers are always whining and complaining..

i am very happy with the movies. once you read the books though some parts will really bother you.

before i get s*** from everyone, i did give this a 9/10.

in that case...i'll just keep my blinders on and stick to the movies, lol.

Last week, I didn't know **** about Harry Potter. One week later and one ridiculous marathon sprint watching all the movies leading up to last nights midnight show, I can say that i'm a fan. Granted, I still am lost at a few points (which will be eased over multiple viewings of the previous films) but I ended up really enjoying these films.

Final rankings:

1. Deathly Hallows pt. 2
2. Order of the Phoenix
3. Prizoner of Azkaban
4. Goblet of Fire
5. Deathly Hallows pt. 1
6. Chamber of Secrets
7. Sorcerer's Stone
8. Half Blood Prince

Well done...and that's saying something for a guy that's spent the past 8 years hating on this series and their fans. :wow:

Well Lost Son, it's always nice to hear of late converts like this. But I highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out the books. Regardless of how it may affect your opinion of the movies, reading the books is a better and more fulfilling experience in pretty much every way. You'll love the characters (especially the supporting ones) SO much more, be far more dazzled by the plotting, and they'll finally give you a sense of the true magic that has almost entirely eluded the movies (I say this as a fan of the movies). Although I will say this...you'd be totally cool starting with Prisoner of Azkaban. That's where the books really get started, imo. I was never a big fan of the first two, and as long as you know the basics, you don't really need 'em. But Azkaban is still my favorite book, and features plenty of wonderful stuff that never made it into any of the films.

I know they may seem like a real time commitment, but PoA and HBP are actually pretty quick reads, and you may be surprised at how fast you can tear through the others. The LONGEST it ever took me to read a HP book was 2.5 days (OotP and DH). And I'm not a fast reader at all, but I just couldn't put 'em down.

I was disappointed. I thought it was the weakest of all the Potter movies. Badly paced.

I hate all the McGuffins. What was the point of the Resurrection stone? What was it supposed to do? To see his dead relatives? All that had apparently happened before.

I know right. I mean it wasn't emotional or had any weight at all.

Well its finally over. I gotta say its hard to watch these movies after having read the books because I'll always know just that much more than the audience and it sucks because the little things you think wouldn't get cut, do get cut, and it would have taken mere minutes, seconds to include. This movie was great. No doubt about it, but it did lack a sense of suspense needed during such action filled moments and moments of shock. I can't put my finger on it, if it was the music, direction, editing...i don't know. Some things worked and others didn't play out as i expected them to. It was a fitting finale and ending, and truthfully, any complaints i had with it are the same ones i had with JK's book itself.
8.5/10 I'm gonna have to see it again, I was distracted by the audience and the horrible 3d.

No way can I rank this movie on it's own, but together with part 1(which I watched right before going to the theater) it's terrific. 9.5/10

This is the only PROPER adaptation since Azkaban. In fact, splitting the book into two films only makes me dislike the other movies even more. Think about it. Deathly Hallows is a 700 something page book and it properly convey most of what happens it took two films totaling 4.5 hours. On the other hand, the fourth, fifth, and six books are just as long yet get little more than two hours to be told on film.

yea ya know as a whole I think my ranking etches up to 9/10 for the entire 4 1/2 hour epic. So it does change things a bit.

Phew. It's been an emotional 20 hours. I don't feel able to go into a full review until I see the film again, as it felt like such a blur. Every now and then something will pop into my head, I'll really feel it, and my response is that I need to see the film again. It was, as many have said though, a truly wonderful finish. It just devours through the remainder of the book, and doesn't really give much time to breath. I loved some of the changes implemented, and as always, I thought some omissions probably could have translated well on screen and deserved to be there (there was certainly enough time too), but that's really irrelevant - the movie is what it is, and it's damn good. I don't know if I've ever sat through a film where I've experienced so many sporadic tear-ups. I did my best to mostly constrain it all, but when I got home...man... :csad:

To be brief, I thought every character had at least one moment to shine, the Harry/Voldemort connection scenes were beautifully framed and told so much without saying anything, [BLACKOUT]Snape's death was handled well (I honestly didn't expect the "You have your mother's eyes..." line - wow!), and the Prince's Tale was fantastic. As mentioned, the inclusion of Hooper's HBP cue was a great choice, and the shot of Snape clutching Lily with baby Harry in the background was stunning.[/BLACKOUT] And I actually loved the epilogue. If anything, I wish it were a tad longer. I thought Dan played the part very well, and the final shot would have only been that much better with a "The End" title card on the black screen. That would have killed me.

If I were to make one gripe, which will not change with subsequent viewings, it's that I was severely disappointed that they didn't do anything special with the end credits. I know it seems like a nitpick, but this ending has been ten years in the making; I was really hoping we'd see something special, but perhaps I was just setting myself up for disappointment. It obviously has no bearing on the film itself, but I think it was a missed opportunity to keep the tears flowing.

Anyhow, it's nice to see that mostly everyone else has enjoyed it, and I can't wait to see it again and let it really sink in. Way too much to absorb in one viewing. Hopefully by the time I see it again, the numbness will have worn off...only to return again. :funny:

Do you guys think this will be on DVD & Blu-Ray in time for Christmas ? It will make most of its money the first week & then some

im expecting a directors cut bluray for xmas, tons of money.

Pottermania is going wild here in the Philippines. So much hype here. I just got back from seeing it, and man, the first HP movie to top a LOTR movie IMO. UNBELIEVABLY EMOTIONAL! AMAZING BALANCE OF SPECTACLE AND CHARACTER! There was a lump in my throat almost all throughout the movie. Lots of goosebump-inducing moments.

HP1: 7/10
HP2: 7/10
HP3: 8/10
HP4: 8/10
HP5: 6.5/10
HP6: 8.5/10
HP7PT1: 7/10
HP7PT2: 9.5/10

Wow, I agree 100% with all your ratings!

Agree with everything... The Prince's Tale was my favorite part. Bravo Alan Rickman. Incredible.

And an honorable mention to Dumbledore the White. Michael Gambon totally stole that costume from Ian McKellen's Lord of the Rings wardrobe:awesome:

I know right. I mean it wasn't emotional or had any weight at all.
I don't think it did. Why was Remus there? He was a minor character. We never even saw him die. We never met his son. Nothing with Remus and Harry really had enough emotional impact for me. To me the scene lacked the weight of previous scenes in the series.

I don't see why he needed the resurrection stone and what the point of it was.

Too many loose ends in the movie as well.

The resurrection stone thing was weird. Like I was thinking maybe he would bring back Dobby as a last act or something like that but it really ends up being pointless. In fact why even call it a resurrection stone if it does not resurrection ?

We've been told numerous times in the other movies/books that nothing can bring the dead back to life.

But yeah, the stone was the weakest part because all it basically did was show their ghost...and that isn't very special because many people choose to be ghosts anyway.

So Harry could never do something like go back in time with the Time Turner that Hermione has & then bring someone from the pass to the future with them ?

Fantastic ending to the franchise. Easily the best movie of the summer so far for me.
Everything I'd been looking forward to was there, really couldn't have been better.

hah it's been awesome keepin up with ya gettin converted! I was the same way last year...gosh this last movie was all kinds of epic!

Sorry I just don't get it. Too many loose ends and characters that don't get resolved.

You know life is complete when NFL.com uses Harry Potter to make a point lol

This movie was amazing. Plain and simple. Absolutely amazing. All the acting was top notch, the action was great, the Prince's Tale was perfect; Rickman man alive he was amazing. Neville was a bad ass, Maggie Smith looked fantastic for the condition that she is in and it was great to finally see her kick some ass. I am so happy that they changed the final battle between Voldemort and Harry as well as the whole killing Nagini that surprised me how that was different and I thought it worked much better. Wow to Mrs. Weasly pulling out some sort of spell we've never seen before haha you do not want to mess with her. I don't think they'll win an oscar for visual effects, I think Transformers has that one already wrapped up but the visuals were great especially the dragon, damn that thing looked fantastic. I loved all the quiet scenes, especially after Harry learns his fate, very powerful stuff. I was also really happy that they didn't do a Return of the King ending, my God that went on for so long it makes not want to watch the movie. This ending was perfect, not too long but just long enough for us to wind down with our heroes for the last time. My only complaint was that in the epilogue which was great, there was no nod to Malfoy. I loved that in the book where Harry and Malfoy nod to each other, showing respect for one another. This movie is an easy 10 out 10 and a great way to finish off the franchise.

Just got back from a packed out showing. Best film of the year, absolutely loved it. I will probably need to watch it again (which i will be doing) to form a proper opinion but it was a great film.

Not read the book since it came out actually but all the big bits I can remember are there and are great. I'm re-reading through them so when i get to DH I'm sure something will crop up I wish had being in the film...

Yes the pacing was a bit fast but it did what the movies have always done and that's focus on the main plot point... and as it's clear from my comments, I'm happy with it. The direction and the action was tremendous and all involved were really good, especially Daniel, Rupert in his subtle way, Rickman was cool as always and I think even the guy who plays Neville (sorry, too lazy to look up his name) shone quite a bit. Perhaps expected a bit more from the 3D so then ext time I see it will probably be in 2D. Also a minor nitpick would probably be that I expected a little more of a 'bang' from the one on one fight with Harry and Voldy.... but thats only a minor little thing.

Oh yeah, I live in England and this is the only film I've ever being to where the audience applauded at the end, which isn't that normal over here.. I understand it's quite a normal occurance in american cinemas.

9.5/10. Possibly second fave of the series, behind Azkaban.
