Have any of you digitized your movie collections?

same :highfive:

i dont ever redeem the digital copies of my movies. considering i have 400+ blu rays, maybe i should sell my digital copies

I never redeem the digital copies either. I just don't see the point.

Also, digital copies don't have a DTS HD Master codec. I need my audio quality on par with my video quality.

Blu Ray is a dying format? What the hell lol? People still buy DVD's for God's sake. Wow.

Hell, I still haven't got any blu rays yet. I'm not opposed to them, but it's cheaper to get DVDs and they're still easy to find, so I don't feel the need to go out and re-buy all of my films and TV shows just to get them on blu ray.
Same here. I love movies , but I don't love them so much where I have to buy another copy of a movie I just bought just to see it in a new format.

Nope and I'll stick with Blu-Ray. I'm not upgrading my tv/player or movies just because of 4k. I don't see BD going anywhere anytime soon.

This!

Blu-ray is going to be around for quite some time.

From what I've read about 4K, people would need to buy incredibly large TVs to make it worth it. I highly doubt enough people will buy 60"+ TVs to make this replace Blu-ray soon.

I think this is the first time I've actually heard someone say Blu-Ray is a dying format.

Blurays aren't dying. It will take years and years and years before they stop making physically formatted media.

I'm sticking to my Blu-rays, seems like Blu-ray is the "final" physical format for movies anyway... so if there's one thing to keep, it's all ya blus!

I'm sure people who heavily invested in DVD's thought the same thing.

Looks like Sony is going to incorporate 4K into their later Blu-Rays. This just came out yesterday:

"With the entire film industry now behind the Blu-ray video format, it seems we should expect to see any platform changes this year, but should hope to see Blu-ray introduce a UHD/4K delivery platform in 2014 to go with the televisions hitting the market this year." Click here to read more

This means you will have to buy a new suped-up Blu ray player, and a new TV to enjoy the benefits of 4K. I doubt software updates (except for maybe on the next Sony Videogame/Entertainment system) will suffice to display the new format, which will be 4x the resolution.

It seems to make more sense for me to digitize every movie I buy, put the movies on a server (Cloud) and access my digital content that way. When 4K comes out, the only thing I will need to upgrade is my TV, and won't need to buy more expensive players.

I would happily do it, it just takes a insane amount of time to do. And if your hard drive ever crashes, ugh.

I like the convenience of it. I've bought some shows off of Amazon Instant and it's nice to have it all right there.

DVDFab is great for both DVD and Bluray.

In terms of Bluray, a lot of the time, you can even just copy the M2TS files right off the disc.

I have never even heard of 4K.

But I shall be sticking to my DVDs and Blu-Rays

Arent torrents illegal?

Only if you are downloading something that has a copyright and isn't free. I grab tons of large files that are faster on torrents but not on the main site... such as patches for MMO's and such.

And people are lazy and won't do this, hence why 4k won't be something that takes off right away because people are going to wait for it to become a cheaper option.

I usually sell all of my digital copies that come with blu-rays, I've only redeemed a couple. I like to have physical collections of things, gives me a greater sense of ownership and the quality is much better imo. Only time I stream or use digital is if I'm renting a movie or if I plan to watch a couple while traveling/on vacation. Actually, I just purchased my first ever movie digitally last week because we wanted to watch it early before the blu-ray came out. I'll still end up buying the blu-ray too though.

4K only has two meaningful purposes. One, for computer (monitor) use, and two, you'll finally be able to take high-quality screencaps that look like actual stills for wallpaper use or whatever.

There are many 4K support HD TV and some 4K output support cameras like Sony F5 what I'm using now.

By the way, no matter 4K will be instead of Blu-ray or DVD format, it's a wise choice to digitize DVD, Blu-ray for lots of reasons.

Well....no, not really.

Sometimes I do use Vudu to redeem codes my brother has on his dvd's. Sometimes I buy or even--gasp--rent from Vudu.

I'm in the process of doing this... I have a PC running PLEX media server behind my television plumbed into the local network. I also have a ROKU box which has a great PLEX interface going into my TV with an HDMI cable and this is also on the local network. Well, it needs to be to communicate with PLEX... :cwink:

Right now I have all my most favourite films and shows on there. Gradually getting around to doing the rest.

I've got a bunch of DVD's (200+), a while back I started ripping them to digital files but it was just taking too damn long to get through them all. I was thinking it would be just easier downloading them from the net. I wouldn't be downloading any other films, just the films in my collection, I just can't really be bothered ripping all my movies.

My friends Dad would get the DVDs sent to his home from Blockbuster every week and rip them onto his own DVDs....he had the largest movie collection I've ever seen in my life.

i actually have started to sell my digital copies and have received a decent amount of money on them. it's nice to recoup money i've spent on these so that's a definitely plus

i'm still kinda pro-physical copies, although i better understand why some prefer streaming since i use netflix on occassion
