Watchmen HBO Eyeing ‘Watchmen’ TV Series from Damon Lindelof

I can't tell if you're mocking me for thinking it, or mocking me because you think it's obvious that he did.

Anyway, it was a panel taken from Veidt's flashback that convinced me.

Casually chewing on a blade of grass while leaning against his parents headstone? He totally killed them.

Really loving everything so far and I’m also really enjoying reading through some of these theories. This is an easy-contender for one of the best CBM related shows I’ve seen IMO.

I think it’s fairly obvious Glass and Red aren’t to be trusted but their involvement in the Kalvary and sowing racial discord almost feels too obvious.

Hooded Justice looked white in that flashback. Easy to see when they show his face up close.

So unless there's some staging or whatever, it's probably not as direct as the show tries to make it look.

Was that a flashback or was that a dramatic re-enactment for the TV show? I might be mistaken but I was under the impression that was part of the Hero’s Story.

Damn, I missed the title screen.

Credit to the show, it moves pretty well and if you blink you’ll miss some key details.

I’ve only seen each episode once and I can tell there’s a good amount of stuff I missed. I honestly didn’t even realize until way too late who Irons was playing.

Yeah that wasn’t a “flashback”. That was American Hero Story recreating what they thought happened.

Lindelof is really, really good at world-building and highly intriguing storytelling. I'm more than hooked. Watchmen feels like a really good balance from what he has done with Lost and Leftovers.

And he said something about "slowing down" on episode 2. If that was slowing down, I can't wait to see how the last episodes will be like.

the nods to the graphic novel and 2009 film were great to see. But what really stood out to me is how they're taking the death of the Comedian concept and turning it on its head. It's like reading the graphic novel for the first time seeing how we initially thought the character murdered was innocent.

Watchmen is reminding me of the television adaptation of Fargo. At least the first season. Where they take the same tone and very familiar beats, but tell a new original story.

If you've seen any of Lindelof's previous shows, you know that he's no stranger to red herrings and deliberate obfuscation. He likes to have fun with his audience. Just putting that out there. ;)

I feel like Abar's closer to this show's parallel to Rorschach than Looking Glass, since she gave an almost Randian/objectivist speech about the "black & white" of morality; almost calling back to Ditko's Mr. A, one of the inspirations for Kovacs, who had a black & white calling card differentiating between good & bad.

Sister Night's costume is also black and white.

Plus, she's our POV character used to introduce us to this world, and she's the one pursuing her own investigation into the crime that kicks it off. She's not much like Rorschach, but she's serving the same narrative function as him in this "remix." So I agree she's his counterpart in this.

I was reading this interview now: Watchmen Actor Steven G. Norfleet Discusses the Tulsa Race Riot, Damon Lindelof, and LGBTQ Representation in Comic Book Stories

Now that you're a part of the comic book world, I'm curious if you have any opinions about representation, or lack thereof, of the LGBTQ community in these comic book stories?

I definitely think it's kind of a slowly but surely process when it comes to the LGBTQ community and being involved in so many creative entertainment processes. So, I'm hopeful.

It may not be represented now, but we see the movement that it's made in television and film, and I think it's going to make its way to the comic book world as well. So, as of now, it may not be the standards, but I think give it time, we would definitely start to see a change.

It didn't get me very hopeful, really. I'm gonna have to lower my expectations.

Also, he's married to Anthony Hemingway, who's such a great television director. Cool!

You know Robert Mueller is a real guy, right? Been in the news a lot the past few years. It is no more important to the plot than freakin Surgeon General Oz...

I think he means in regards to the landscape in general as opposed to on this specific project. If Will really is Hooded Justice, then that's one LGBTQ character in the show already

Yes, I'm aware who Rob Mueller is. lol I was referring to the similarity in surnames between two established characters: Rolf Muller, the circus strongman originally suspected to be Hooded Justice, and Fraulein Mueller, the German woman shown translating & typing up the propaganda flyer aimed at African-American soldiers during World War I. Now, I'm not on the "Will Reeves is Hooded Justice" train just yet, but this seemingly minor detail would give some credence to the rumor if it ultimately establishes a connection between Will and the Germans, and also to the aforementioned Rolf Muller.

That’s my point. You’re making assumptions for the first two. I don’t want to be left with my assumptions. I want the creators to answer them in the narrative.

The show is literally on its second episode with seven more to go. Give it time, jeez.

I could be wrong, but I thought they were making fun of the Snyder movie through that "tv show" with the slowmotion fighting scenes and explicit violence (Plus the voice over that kind of sounded like movie Rorschache )

I'm started to care more about LG than any other character. dude gives me some Rorschach vibes that remind me to the Snyder film (which i personally think was the best part of the movie).

Great episode.

I love him too. I have a feeling that you are going to love him even more Hollis ;)

Thought the same thing
