HBO's Game of Thrones - - Part 11

Yeah, glad it's not one of the main characters. There are a lot of guys on this show who are almost irreplaceable.

With all the red wedding promotion, the cover for season 3 really should have been the King of the North, instead of that generic dragon shadow with 3 swords.

That would have made sense. Play up The King in the North aspect, leading to the downfall.

Truth be told, though, they do seem (I could be wrong, but it looks it to me) to put alot of stock in Dany. Even with the rather flat ending using Dany and the liberation of the city in the final scene to try and end things on an upbeat tone. Or something.

Someone actually sat down and designed that & were paid to do so. And someone else approved it and were also paid to do so. Bit worrying really.

It really is. There's a ton of things to draw on, even divide if you want to please all the fans of each family. I guess all we can do now is just hope that they somehow manage to make up for these mistakes with a damn good Series DVD Collection.

Once they collect the series entirely, maybe they'll get their **** together on and deliver there.

My brother and mother did not know about it. I watched the entire episode with real anxiety leading up. The family was not happy.

Looking back, my brother and I really had to avoid...well, all of the internet, for about a week. I remember hearing "Red Wedding!! Red Wedding!!", but avoiding facebook, twitter, and any forums because my brother and I just weren't able to sit down and watch it till the Sunday after.

And so, we watched it with anxiety too. We didn't watch it not expecting a major event, like perhaps most who watched it when it aired did. I remember watching that episode expecting a huge moment. And that moment, lived up to all the hype and shock that it generated. Truly did. There are times where hype is generated for a moment that doesn't earn it. But, they definitely earned it here. Especially when you can walk in, expecting to be surprised or shocked...and STILL get surprised and shocked says alot about how they built up to it and executed it. I think I was actually hurt by it, too. Starks are my favorites, and man...that was just tough.

My dad hasn't watched it, yet. And his favorite are the Starks, too. I know he's going to be quite pissed about it. Watching his reaction is going to be like a time capsule of what happened a year ago, actually.

The season 3 cover should have been Robb's crown with blood on it.

Record your dads reaction on the sly.

The season 3 cover should have been Robb's crown with blood on it.

I would've liked a stylized wolf-headed king sitting the throne. Whichever season covers the Northern chapters from ADWD should feature Stannis's flaming heart and stag.

I will say this though, the new Mountain has the closest book-accuracy in terms of physique and height. I mean, I'm not sure about the guy's acting skills but Gregor gets a lot more character focus this season so I'd hope he can deliver on both fronts.

If I remember correctly, the new Mountain's actually under seven-foot tall, but his credentials basically begin at "competitor for World's strongest man" and you can see him using the great sword one handed in the shots of the duel from the trailers, as well as one shirtless shot of him chopping heads off in King's landing. Me it looks like his victims are just beggars or other miscreants rounded up by Goldcloaks. It's a nice way to remind the audience how powerful Gregor is and build up his psychotic nature if he seems to clearly enjoy just killing the absolute $#!+ out of the poor.

Plus,
It allows the Martells to be even more pissed off that Tywin won't admit Gregor's culpability in Elia's rape and death if he's in the town, clearly acting as their murderous attack dog and flaunting his freedom and power.

That's too spoiler-y and traumatic if you've already seen the finale.

For season 4, I'd go with Joffrey's banner (Baratheon Stag and Lannister Lion) ripped in half with the tagline, "A Lannister Always Pays His Debts."

I was thinking that too. It could seem so stylized, that someone whose not in the know wouldn't quite understand that it's...well, Robbwind they're looking at. I suppose that there'd need to be a balance and cleverness in having a cover like that, but it would have been fun to see. I guess I'd appreciate the approach to that kind of creativity.

And kind of traumatic, speaking as a Stark fan.

And man, that's kinda what sucks so much about how lazy the dvd set for season 3 looks. And I'm hoping it was laziness, because if that's as creative and imaginative as they can be...well, ****. There's so much iconography, and beautiful imagery to use. Just looking at the reused Lannister, Stark, and Targaryen covers, and how cool those still are (already pre-ordered season 3 from Best Buy, too). Just so much wasted potential how to beautifully package and present these boxsets.

Yeah, I didn't mean that the king would be bleeding or filled with arrows. It'd be wearing a clean, pristine suit of armor and cloak. It'd look more like a wolf-headed man, and less the thing that the Freys trotted out in S3E10.

I wanted something like that too.

Or at the very least, I wanted the camera more on Robb being dragged by the Freys.

I don't know if I could have taken more, man. It was a small scene, but it was a crazy thing to see them parade him, chanting "All hail the King North!". And it's probably because the Starks are my favorite, but it was really sad to see how they had desecrated Robb's body like that.

But, there's supposed to be deleted and extended scenes on the dvd. I suppose there could be some more of Robbwind on there.

Far as having the cover, I think there's probably a clever way of doing it without giving away too much. Besides, going into it without having read the books or watched the finale, I think the last thing someone outside of the know would consider is the sad, horrible truth of what that image actually means.

That finale was the weakest of the 3 for me. I didn't really mind the scene that much, just didn't love it. And if they were going to use Dany in the season finale, releasing the Unsullied was totally worthy of a season finale.

Nothing's going to make up for it for me as I'm going to be forced to spend £30 on that PoS. Don't see any other option as I want to watch all 3 seasons continuously on blu-ray till season 4 comes out. And the 1st 2 are like treasured possessions where every picture even on the inserts is great as well as the cover. I guess if they change it up for when a 4k version comes out that might appease me as that would be the new definitive version.

I'd love to read this thread back during Red Wedding time. Although I suppose nearly everyone here seems to have read the books and might have known what was going to happen. I have to watch it again as I didn't like it 1st time,
and I'm not opposed to GRRM killing whoever he pleases. Was fine with Sean Bean's death in season 1 even though he was a perfect point of view main character.

Season 5, the Flayed Man of House Bolton in flames, "The Night is Dark..."

new trailer this sunday already? wow

March is right around the corner when you think about it, so it kinda makes sense.

I think that when it comes to dvd/ blu-ray releases, the worst ofender has been the lack of a season 2 collector's edition. There was one for season 1:

And another for Season 3

And what does Season 2 get? Absolutelly nothing, those that collect these editions will just have it incomplete and with a normal Season 2 edition awkwardly placed between these 2 massive releases

Doesn't make sense.

Jaime Lannister said there were only 3 guys who might have a chance against him in the show (season 2). Does it say in the books who they are?

did Robb ever actually wear a crown in the show? i cant remember a time ive seen anyone but Robert and Joff

I guess they would be Loras Tyrell and Barristan Selmy. I don't have the books near to check though, so i may be wrong here...

I forget if it's stated explicitly, but I would assume he's referring to Barristan Selmy (the greatest living knight), the Mountain (the strongest man in Westeros), and the Hound (one of the strongest).

Nope, he never wore a crown. Which is unfortunate since his was pretty cool-looking going by the description [blackout]and it plays a small role in AFFC and (I think) ADWD.[/blackout]

"An open circlet of hammered bronze incised with the runes of the First Men, surmounted by nine black iron spikes wrought in the shape of longswords. It is said to look much the same as the one worn by the former Stark Kings in The North."

not to mention the little detail with it and the wolf head

I thought Loras might be one of them as he was said to have beaten Jaime in a tournament in the past but I guess he was also shown losing to Brienne (when she was introduced).

Thanks.
