The Dark Knight He Who Laughed Last: Selling The Joker, New Article.

WB will make their money back and then some.

The problem is they're going to make so much a third movie will still happen no matter what.

So they have to find a way to either recast for the third or recut the movie so the third won't rely on having the Joker seen.

No one knows anything. From what we know BB3 is mainly about Two-Face, not Joker. TDK is Joker's movie, BB3 is Two-Face's time to shine. It will be respectful and best just to write around what little cameo the Joker may have had. With still being in script development if that, its easiest to write around. Because recasting will do a few things:

A. Make a lot of fans mad
B. Cost more money then a re-write of the material.
C. Just would be kinda disrespectful to Heath with such a huge role.
D. The Joker stuff in Shadow of the Bat aka BB3 may have been nothing more then a rumor.

The thing we do know though is the third is suppose to focus on Two-Face.

Anyone who starts a post with "you guys" or "you ppl" should be put on probabation. The comments that follow are always condescending and hardly ever valuable.

 Me? Or some one who starts with a "G"?

I am not addressing anyone in particular. I simply can't abide the "what you guys/ppl/geeks/dorks need to accept/understand" posts, which appear to represent a belief that all the debate that had occured before pales into insignificance beside the forsight and understanding of the lecturing party.

I see and I agree.

Not necessarily. If the story is best told with Joker then I won't be upset in the slightest if they recast an actor that at least matches what Heath did.

C. Just would be kinda disrespectful to Heath with such a huge role.

Only people close to Heath can make that call. For all we know he may very well have thought the project was something bigger than him and his character and would have wanted the show to carry on without him.

Yea but they may not, Heath's role as the Joker was very unique. And mostly I will bet money on this, that if Nolan does helm BB3, he will not recast.

Some try to compare it to the Katie Holmes thing but there was a reason no one cared for her to be recast, she was a small character, and it seems most don't know for sure, but some, including myself saw her to be the weakest point to BB. But that is how I see it, I can see how some see it differently.

But IMO I think Nolan will not do that if he does continue.

I think the best point the article makes is that, the best way to respect Heath Ledger's memory isn't to sweep his performance under the rug, to pull the marketing, and to act like his last (and what could end up being his greatest) role is some kind of guilty secret. Celebrate it! Get the Joker merchandise out there! Let's make 2008 The Summer of Heath. Celebrate Ledger's life and career by relishing his performance as The Joker to the full.

I stopped reading after "Batman: The Dark Knight."

I didn't even read the first word of the first sentence.

I totally UNREAD the ASS out of that article, if it was an article, I dunno I didn't read it.

But still. Even though I didn't read one word of it, i'm gonna give it a big thumbs down... :down

Yea. I ignored the **** outa that.

Gotta love people posting on a thread about an article....to say they didn't read the article.

I'm going to go over to the TV boards and comment on every show I've never watched...

Couldn't agree more!

Now more than ever, Joker should be used to promote this movie. Let the world see images of Heath as Joker promoting one of his last movies. And probably his most famous one, too.

This is the role that Heath himself said he had the most fun with.

OK, but since you're one of the few SHH posters I actually like and respect, I really really hope you appreciated my sarcasm in my above post.

(said respect may be purely down to having that avatar. I want it more than babies)

You guys are so right! By giving Heath respect in saying "Yeah, we believe it was an accident," they were horrible people. Oh, and mistaking the name of the new Batman movie was really the last straw! Man, these guys are horrible people! I hate them! I'm going to sue! :whatever:

The point that I am making is that the article is inaccurate on several details, and on those grounds I feel within my rights to criticize it.

And to say that the facts (inaccurately stated) suggest suicide, but they believe it was an accident...well that seems needlessly inflammatory to me. The evidence doesn't point to suicide, and the death was ruled accidental. It might be just bad research on their part, but I'm certain not going to give them a pass on not checking their facts. So I'm just going to continuing disliking this article for spreading misinformation. Someone reading that article without knowing any better would get the impression that all signs pointed to Heath killing himself, but out of respect people were choosing to believe otherwise. That implication rubs me the wrong way.

quoted for absolute truth. i was shopping for joker clothing just this afternoon (no luck).

Just would be kinda disrespectful to Heath
What else is there to do? The guy is dead. Stop being an emo wuss. The guy died and someone must fill in his shoes. The actor is dead, not the joker. Its a job. A role.
Noone is taking advantage of his death, but what if Nolan was planning two more movies and the joker was gonna play a big part in them?

I believe the joker is/was supposed to have a big role in TDK sequel. Where is the disrespect? Did they fire him? Speak badly of him? Well he isnt here for the role so they have to put someone else in it. What is bad about that? AND MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, THAT ACTOR PULLS IT OFF BETTER THAN HEATH!!
But what am i saying...this is a ledger thread....noone is gonna be better than heath for you and you havent even seen the movie.
You believe he should get an oscar in all the oscar categories (music/directing/script/etc) no matter what. Ok go on...

You people are all batman fans like me and i like that.

Although, Regwec, if we were going to start putting people on probation based on the value of their posts, you'd be gone a long time ago my friend.

You make total sense. I totally agree. Be warned though. The fanboys here don't appreciate common sense.

So in your opinion we can disrespect bad actesses but not the good one?
Well i say we dont disrespect anyone. For me, Katie wasnt all that bad, but she was too pretty and with a very girly voice to be a d.a in gotham so i couldnt see rachel, but katie.
Nonetheless, we shouldnt disrespect anyone as i said. She might havent returned cause of the outcry, maybe because of eckhart and cruises jealousy of their sex scene in "Thank you for smoking" or whatever. So she was replaced. There is no disrespect in that.

Heath is unavailable, but show must go on. This is a role and someone has to do it. As if the man digging at the streets dies, someone will take his place and keep digging for that pipeline! Where is the disrespect? TDK will be devoted to him and if his replacement is humble enough it will all be good. He was a good actor and i mourn him, dont get me wrong, but this is a job we are talking about. Even Batman was replaced in the schumacher movies, was that disrespectful? And val was good in it (in fact he was almost fired for strongly arguing with schumi about the films darkness. He is on our side!!!!) and is a good actor!

Sorry for the tone, but i cant be more polite on this matter. i hope i am getting through on this.

Is there a chance that you're high out of your mind right now?

I never said others can't. And you have to watch yourself cuz I was not saying anyone had to think my way. Nor do I word it like DD, google or it seems yourself.

People can dislike Heath if they want, some do. I have never said they can't. But when we were in the thread talking about rememberance of Heath kinda like a funeral for him on the boards, its not cool for some one to come that does not like him and talk about how much they hated him.

If you dislike Heath's work fine what ever. Just as I can say I did not care for Katie in BB.

Though I will say she was not horrible, just not as good in my views as the calibur of actors around her. I don't hate Katie Holmes personally I just mean I did not care for her work in her past career, BB was easily her best but I just did not care. I have never met Katie so I cannot say if I "disrespect her" I respect those who like her, and many do on this board. And myself I have a different view. But unlike a lot of the "Heath" bashers I am not bashing her as a human being, I'm bashing her work.

You should read my posts more carefully. It just works out better that way.

Thank you Bright Knight.

To clarify, it all goes down to the director. If Katie wasnt suitable for a gotham d.a its Nolan's fault for casting her and not someone else in the first place. Maybe she left on her own or they fired her and said "we did all we could, she aint coming back". Point is, the role of rachel has been filled with a better actress. And Rachel acts as Bruce's conscience and maybe his love interest. So no matter how small her screentime, she isnt a trivial character. I wish we could have the same actors. I wish Katie had been good in the first place, and i wish we didnt have to recast the joker. No one is defying what heath has done. Also i am one of those who dont accept changes easily and in fact i wish we could have him play it, even if he is 80% good, so that we could have the continuity rather than changing him for the 100%.

I am sure he is gonna be perfect. He had the spirit and the method of pulling this off. He was even in that bad insomniac condition which could only help here (which is sad really). So all i am saying is, put someone in his shoes to finish this. He isnt gonna try something on his own, he isnt gonna change it. Just fill in the shows for the missing heath. And he is respectful and humble enough, he will bow his head down, stay out of the lights and just say that he was filling in. Didnt act or give his own joker. He just did heath. And you know, that would be a tribute, not disrespect.

To give you one example, Evel Knievel used to circle his hometown in Montana on a motorbike with all the town following him on bikes. That was happening once a year to celebrate his birthday and his legend. Recently this man died. I assume that the tradition lives on with his son leading this parade. He wont be Evel. He wont be pretending to be. He will be riding his father's cycle (i assume) to fill in and continue the tribute.

Total nonsense. :down

I agree. I didn't like hearing that they were supposely thinking of refilming or whatever. Glad it didn't happend. And I hope they release Joker products of him like the toys, mask, etc when the time come. I know he is gone, but in time people will move on & accept it.
