Horror "Hellraiser" Remake

What's next? Goyer playing the lead cenobite as well?!

I don't think Barker's health is the best. He was interviewed for the recent Candyman blu-ray release and his voice was better, but he's aged A LOT.
Then if he's not fit for directing duties, why not give it to someone like Andy Muschetti or GDT? They LOVE this kind of horror!

So, the visionary writer/director of The Unborn is handling this.

We're screwed.

That movie was sooooo awful, lol. I loved how Gary Oldman just inexplicably became English at the very end of the movie after speaking with an American accent the whole time.

If he's directing, then we're ****ed indeed. Way to kill a reboot.

At the very least we’ll have a... great poster.

There's a few talented indie-horror directors who I would put my faith on. Goyer writing AND directing? I'm pissed.

Spyglass' 'Hellraiser' Reboot Finds Its Writing/Directing Team (Exclusive)

The filmmaking team behind Sundance Film Festival sensation The Night House are reuniting to tackle Spyglass Media’s re-imagining of 1980s horror classic, Hellraiser.

David Bruckner, who directed Night House as well as sections of horror anthologies V/H/S andSouthbound, will helm the feature which will have a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.

While details of Spyglass’ take were not revealed, the company is describing the reboot as “loyal, yet evolved.”

Spyglass, launched as a partnership between Gary Barber and Lantern Entertainment Co-Presidents Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic. Is also developing a reboot of 1990s horror franchise Scream.

Bruckner made his directing debut with the 2007 sci-fi horror film, The Signal, and recently directed episodes of Creepshow. Collins and Piotrowski, wrote indies Super Dark Times and Stephanie. Their Night House starred Rebecca Hall as a widow dealing with her husband’s disturbing secrets. The movie caused a stir at Sundance when Searchlight closed a $12 million deal to pick up worldwide rights.

Maybe it’s just because, when I finally watched it, the movie was so far off the mark from what I was expecting it to be, but I don’t really get any resistance to a remake. IMO, there’s a lot of room for improvement.

Oh thank GOD, they got rid of Goyer. Really don't get why they'd want HIM on this to begin with. Have they not seen The Unborn?

He's not completely gone...

David Goyer, one of the producers of Night House, is writing the story and producing via his Phantom Four banner alongside Keith Levine.

I liked The Ritual and Southbound quite a bit so I'd be interested to see what they do with it. It can't be any worse than the direct to video releases or the Scarlett Gospels which is probably the worst thing Clive Barker has ever written almost deliberately so. I think Bruckner could bring it back to its more vague Lovecraftian roots of the Hellbound Heart rather than the generic Judeo Christian drivel it devolved onto.

This is one franchise that literally has nowhere else to go but up.

Really hope they keep the effects as practical a shame possible, they really shouldn’t need much CGI for something like this.

Eh, I'm not interested. The absolute bat **** craziness of Barker and that first film is what makes it stand out and is part of its vision. Anything else is just gonna be a reconstruction of those things.

The unexpectedness and uniqueness of the first movie will always stand out to me.

I love that it's totally not what you would expect from it if you've only heard of the franchise, namely cenobites torturing humans. Instead it's a twisted psycho-sexual character piece and thriller.

The first movie transcends horror movie conventions, and in my opinion not even the beloved Hellbound sequel can compete with it.

But who knows. I would love it if they were able to make something truly special with it, but so far my expectations are low.

What you said is why a remake will pale. They're just gonna water it down. It doesn't help things are so chaste today. That weird psycho sexuality is part of the uniqueness, but whether it's deemed too risky or not, it'll be opted out for something more mythology based. Which misses the point of Barker.

Yeah, probably.

I've always thought the mythology of it was secondary (but still important AS SUCH) and not the heart of the story, as well.

Hellraiser reboot director teases the upcoming horror movie

David Bruckner has proven himself a dab hand when tackling terrifying tales. The director's movie The Ritual was a surprise success, while The Night House, his next movie with Rebecca Hall, scared critics at Sundance earlier this year. Who better to tackle the upcoming Hellraiser reboot?

The movie will be written by David S. Goyer, who penned The Dark Knight, and will – according to Bruckner – be "something of a small reimagining" of the original movie and the source material.

SFX in the latest issue of the magazine, which features Titans on the cover. "But it is something that we are actively working towards, and it is a joy and a dream for a filmmaker like myself to dive into that world. All I’ll say is that we are aiming to be as true as we can to the original material. [Clive Barker’s original story] 'The Hellbound Heart' is also a primary source of inspiration, as well as the original film. But then it is something of a small reimagining and we are currently working on it."

According to this guy, the film is already shooting in Serbia.

The Night House Director Embraces Solitary Storytelling, Teases Hellraiser's Future

Bruckner is currently directing a new incarnation of Hellraiser for Hulu. The upcoming remake will be written by David S. Goyer, who was an executive producer on The Night House. Reflecting on what it's like to join the storied series, Bruckner shared, "It's humbling and magnificent. Frankly, any anxiety I feel about dabbling with such sacred material... There's nothing like Hellraiser. It hits you in the strangest ways, in so many different places."

"But I think that what really surprised me, jumping into the creative process here and having developed this routine for quite some time is that it's such a fascinating, incredible world. It pushes us and challenges us in so many different ways," he teased. "It's a magnificent universe. It's frankly a joy to work on. I hope they'll make Hellraiser movies forever. And as a fan, I will show up for all of them and it's just a real pleasure to be a part of another one."

The first two are mine, but I have a fondness for Bloodline because it's what got me into Hellraiser to begin with. Hellraiser III was alright as a campy gorefest but I really would have preferred the gothic tone of the first two.

I really hope for some new info on the reboot soon. Like whether the Weinsteins greenlit Clive's screenplay.

Really, the first 3 ARE the franchise, everything after just ditch in my book.
