At the end, when all the world leader offcials where at the meeting near the statue of liberty island, couldn't Storm have just wipped up a little rain to have them move the meeting indoors, out of range of Magneto's machine? I mean if there was a chance of hail or lighting they would've had to move all those important people indoors or even delayed the event for a few more days. That kinda would've out the burn on Magneto's plans.

You know what I realised. At the end of the movie they stop the TV when Mystique is disguised as Senator Kelly on the news.

I hadn't seen the film in a year or two and I forgot Magneto's plans were for ALL of New York to get zapped. You have to admit that the ramifications of the political officials being mutated was much more focused on than the other bystanders in New York being affected.

They couldn't have been certain of the range and penetrating power of the energy. So while Storm was working on a ploy that may not have worked, that would have left one person too busy to stop the machine altogether, which would have (and did) definitely worked.

I suppose Storm could have wooshed them 20,000 feet up into the air with enormous gale force winds, that would have surely saved them from Magneto's mutation machine, but then you'd have to deal with that pesky thing called gravity.
