Hitman: Absolution

I really hope this game is long as ****, to make up for how long it's been. Anyways, it's great to see the devs taking what works in the series and applying it to a much larger scale, like making disguises a bit more detailed in how they can aid/hurt you. It's a pity that many developers don't follow suit, and go for the "throw some gimmicks on the wall and see what sticks" tactic

Yea im hoping for a good length as well, altho with all the Hitman games, theyve had great replayability, i doubt thatll change here.

That's brief, so not fair to tease like that. Brilliant looking gameplay, this is going to be solid. We need a release date, damn it.

Haha yea, according to an interview they are still in pre-alpha stage, so they got a ways to go.

Game is looking really, really sharp

The Hitman game series is one of my favourite non-sports games on the consoles, I don't mind the Metal Gear Solid/Batman: AA type stealthing ie everyone is looking for you, however I do hope every mission doesn't turn out like this. I enjoy the assasination missions in which you can walk freely amongst a crowd to get around.

I hope we get another hotel/opera house like mission, there have been a few of those in Blood Money & Contracts that are probably my favourite missions.

Typically I get a good playing time out of all the Hitman games because of the mission ratings & difficulties. I like trying different approaches to each mission to kill my target, sometimes I get a disguise get in & then kill anyone that crosses my path stealthily, other times I ghost my way in, in the suit, then there is the ever popular Rambo kill all style. :D

I liked the paper at the end of Blood Money's missions, the authorities in all my missions where almost always concerned about the number of headshots.. :D

This article confirms that David Bateson, the voice of 47 since the start will NOT be returning to the role in Absolution.

Consider me royally pissed off and concerned. Bateson WAS 47. To not recast him is inexcusable. WTF IOI!?

Technically... they did recast him, haha.

I've only played a bit of hitman, and he was great, but Infamous proved to me that a new actor can actually improve on the original which I loved.

Well, I'm dissapointed that Bateson won't be returning, but hopefully the new guy they chose is good.

That's actually really weird since a while ago Baetson said he was meeting the Io guys about something "super secret." That was last March. Wonder what happened...?

EDIT: Unless this isn't the same 47...After all 47 is just a clone...could this just be another clone? Baetson could be playing dead 47 in like flashbacks or memories that this new one experiences? I think that could really work.

I don't understand why IO wants to go with a new VA now. I mean, the ****.

I hope the new VA is good, but it just wouldn't feel the same without Bateson.

:csad:

Haha, i guess i meant, to not reuse him.

Eh the first actor for Cole McGrath wasnt any good. That wasnt the case here. Bateson, not only was the voice for 47 he was the model for the character as well. He WAS agent 47.

Yea i dont know how that would work. I mean 47 destroyed all the other clones and even then, none of the other clones were as good as 47.

I almost wonder if IO fired him for leaking the info that he was working on this game? He put on his website that he had done voice work for this game and IO vehemently denied it.

Either way this is SUPER disappointing. I was loving everything i was hearing, but to know that David Bateson wont be returning to the role he helped create is just s slap in the face.

Heres a quick rundown from the article i posted.

Game is primarily set in Chicago

Begins with Agent 47 on the run from the Chicago police

IO’s Glacier 2 engine supposedly offer fantastic facial animations

Use of cover mechanics.

Bigger focus on staying hidden, rather than staying in disguise (sounds a lot like Splinter Cell: Conviction so far)

Instinct mode highlights enemies and their patrols through walls, like Arkham Asylum’s detective mode.

It’s powered by silent take downs

No big scale map screen as in previous games.

Mini map still highlights points of interest

New threat meter is a grey circle that wavers in directions where enemies may spot 47 (again as in Conviction)

There will be lots of improvised weapons players can use that are unique to each location

Players can take hostages as human shields as in previous games

This hostage taking prompted some complex AI patterns in the demo, with cops fanning out realistically to keep sight of the target.

Levels will be divided into checkpoints for the first time.

Some stages will be as large as in old Hitman games, others will be much smaller

New structure allows for greater variety and complex set pieces, as well as story driven moments

Having a disguise doesn’t mean you’ll be able to fool everybody

Plot will be more personal to 47, with the Hitman knowing some of his targets.

47 and Diana will have new voice actors

Hand to hand combat will be involved.

Instinct mode increases disguise effectiveness. As cops in the demo questions 47′s movements while he’s disguised as a police man, he enters instinct and uses his police radio to fool them

Each disguise has safe spots, like a box of doughnuts for police men.

You’ll be completely safe in that disguise for as long as you want

New engine offers on the fly editing for AI. AI can also affect group behavior now.

Whatever you do, the AI will react to that dynamically

The way crowds will be used will be different

I'm OK with the Conviction type of gameplay elements as well as it still retains the core Hitman formula. I do, in fact, enjoy Conviction. Dumbed down or not.

Yea, i said wayyyy back, that there was some things that Hitman could borrow from Conviction. Things like the mark and execute, a cover system, brutal hand to hand take downs and the detection meter. It seems like the better elements are finding their way into this game, which is refreshing. I mean iv loved the Hitman games, but from a controlling and gameplay aspect, they've always been kind of mediocre. Shooting people was a chore, which for someone like 47, shouldnt of been.

Everything iv heard on the game has sounded flawless with the huge exception that Bateson wont be back. Thats almost unforgivable.

I have only played the demo for Conviction but it has a fluid gameplay and movement and I don't mind seeing something similar for this, hand to hand combat and the improved AI sounds great as well.

Bateson and now also McKee not returning? That's such a major bummer. Why??!! :cmad:

Kinda sucks about the voice actor, but who knows who they'll cast as a replacement. You might even end up liking him better. I highly doubt they'll cast someone completely inappropriate so don't let it completely destroy your hopes.

It'd be interesting to know why they recast, though. 47 does have a pretty distinguishable voice.

I thought Conviction was a terrible game. Mark and excecute basically took out any challenge what so ever and AI has never been inteligent enough to deal with wallcover. The fact you could die rapidly in Hitman with limited saves made it a rewarding and exciting game. Not a fan of checkpoints either.

Eh, this is the same as recasting David Hayter for Solid Snake. Its just something you dont do.

Mark and Execute was a great way to show the skill of the character. There is no argument that the skill that 47 possesses was NOT conveyed to the player when trying to use either hand to hand combat or gun fire. The controls for the games never made the player feel like they were an elite assassin. Having a similar element will help the player feel like 47. The gunplay was the Hitmans series biggest weakness. Trying to shoot 2 or more individuals quickly was far tougher than it needed to be.

The checkpoints will also now allow for better exploration. Instead of having to restart an entire level because you missed the perfect spot to take down your mark, you can now just restart the check point. Thats going to be much better for finding different way to dispatch people.

Yea Jesper Kyd also wont be back to do the score. Those are 2 HUGE disappointments.

Then they should add some sort of auto/quick-aim. Mark and execute is basically letting the game play itself. I hate the feeling of not being in control, when all I do is mark targets and let the game do the actual killing.

Its no different than using a button to do a take down, which we know is included in the game.

Im not saying id want MaE implemented the way it is in SC:C to be put in Absolution, but something needs to be done that would allow the player to drop multiple targets extremely efficiently. 47 has the skill to down multiple people before they even raise their weapons. Currently there isnt a way to do that in the games.

The way I would do it, is by marking a target, you choose in which order you face an enemy. But you still have to pull the trigger yourself to shoot. So after you killed the first enemy, 47 quickly turns to the 2nd target, we shoot him, he quickly turns to the 3rd and so on.

I simply want to be the one pulling the trigger each time. Not just press 1 button and watch 47 kill 3-4 enemies in a row.

Oh yea, i think that would be a really cool way to do it.

As big of a Hitman fan as I am, I hardly would put him on the same level of popularity as Solid Snake. It'd be more like if they recast Ezio or something from AC. Fans would care, but most people wouldn't cry over it.
