All the explanation you need is in the link.

This shall not be used for a long time. Not until we are completely sure Fox has no intentions to release a Director's cut, but there's no harm in starting early and having it ready just in case.

What harm can it do to sign it? You know the rest, past it around. That's what this place is all about right? Movie support and discussion. It's your duty to sign it :D

Would be nice to see a little more SUPPORT here. So many reading, so few signing. Do you have some sort of soft spot for studio interference which is why you choose not to sign this? If you're reading this post, you should be signing this petition.

EDIT: Well really, I expected more support from this forum. Especially from the number of views.

So many quick to complain, so few to actually attempt to do anything.

I signed the petition. Hopefully more people sign it in hopes of a directors cut or a better Hitman film in general.

Well it's nice to know one of the other 52 people did.

Wonderful amount of support.

Honestly Hitman was doomed from the beginning with Fox controlling the production. Olyphant is a talented actor but he was just wrong for the role and far too young for Agent 47.

I feel comfort knowing that Fox ruined what could've been a great film and an introduction to a great character. But hey, this is Fox we're talking about and we know making quality films isn't what they want to do now. :woot: Hopefully you get more signatures as part of the petition though.

Well he looks a little young, but he's actually 40. The guy is aging so gracefully.

I guess it can go 2 ways with 47. I prefer the colder, more 'together' side of 47, rather than the agressive side, so for me Olyphant was a pretty good choice. I with they could have done somehting more to give him the edge, he didn't have long to prepare so he couldn't get as big as I think he would have wanted, perhaps try out some blue/grey contacts as well. He has the shape, just not the definition. Perhaps when he hits 60 he'll be more suited to the role.

My attitude towards any adaptation (well, interpretation, nobody, not even great directors like Christopher Nolan has ever adapted anything completely) is that as long as they come up with a good alternative and there is reason behind the things that are changed, I'll still be satisfied. If the movie was more well rounded as I believe it was before Fox weighed in, the deviations from the game character would seem smaller because they were aiming to create their own interpretation of the character. Which would make me a happy man.

BTW, where is your sig from (the quote) it seems familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

The quote at the bottom is from the Watchmen graphic novel and the quote that was used in the trailer as well.

As for Hitman? I definitely preferred more of a cold and detached genetic clone that was created in a secret lab. That part they got right from the beginning, but at the same time, it would've been nice if they explored more of the clone storyline and adapt the game series in general to films.

Like the first film could've just been the origin of Agent 47, him being employed by the Agency, and possibly show how he became a legend as an assassin.

Second film could've been the Silent Assassin storyline which would've added more humanity to the character and show him trying to become normal.

Third film could've been the Blood Money storyline which is just screaming for a film adaptation.

I also would've did Hitman in more of a Bourne/Casino Royale visual setting and film style rather than the generic filming that was used. David Bateson's face is the prototype used for Agent 47 and he does the voice for the character as well. He definitely should've been used when he campaigned for it. I understand they wanted to use a somewhat known actor like Olyphant in order to gain interest and cater to the younger audience.

But Bateson to me is 47 and he should've been used for the role.

Couldn't find a bigger picture of David Bateson.

Well the idea was that XG wanted to give 47 a face before he started developing him. He didn't want to deal with clones and what-not. A smart move since VG adaptations have a bad rep, should that film have suffered the same fate it would have been even worse. Half a mangled movie talking about clones and killers isn't exactly what I would like to see, I still managed to enjoy this one.

The developers of the game made 47 the way he is so people could put their own feelings into him, he's not emotionless like so many claim, he's just very open to interpretation. Of course that's just their excuse for lazy writing, I don't hear anyone complaining about their cold yet conflicted character in Silent Assassin, easily the best game of the series because it has character, Blood Money was totally devoid of any character development, he was more of a cardboard cut out than anything.

It's likely, should XG be allowed to direct the sequel, he will explore more of 47's origins.

Bateson didn't do enough to earn the role, Vin Diesel was attatched to it for some time, then he was removed and Fox had to turn to someone else. I'm sure if he made more of an effort he could have got the role. Personally, he just doesn't fit. The movie depicts a much younger 47, since the Agency was so willing to turn their back on him he clearly hasn't built up the rep he has in the games.

Bateson will always have the games, that's the way it should stay. Olyphant will be back if they make sequels so there's no point in debating who should have played 47.

*Sigh* Why do I bother?

Well, I got permission to post this, I'll sure as hell keep doing it until I'm told to stop. :D

You really have nothing to lose by signing this. 20-30 seconds of surfin' time max.

Last bump.

A director's cut could not save this film...

one other person besides yourself has posted in this thread. who exactly is complaining?

Just talking about complaining in general. The official thread is filled with people moaning about it, yet none of them are present to at least attempt any sort of improvement.

A director's cut could not save this film...

Why is that? Let me guess, because this version was bad? Any movie that was ruined by the studio could be 'saved' by a Director's Cut.

What sucked more is that they cast Timothy Olyphant for 47 who was totally wrong for that role.

Olyphant was a fine choice, a little young looking, but still a fine choice. Better than Statham or Diesel (yeh, they've played characters like this, but they are both just terrible, Statham should stick to his funny/over the top movies, and Diesel, well he should just stop). Olyphant was fine for the version of the character they were going for.

Maybe if the movie was of better quality it wouldn't be such a big deal.

The only way they could do a 100% job of the character would be to film it like No Counrty for Old Men, have 47 in his element, as the hunter. But that will never happen, so Olyphant is (IMO) fine for the interpretation the script called for. (Which would be a lot closer to the games in a DC).

I just don't see a director's cut saving this film at all. It was doomed from the start. I thought the script was very weak and the casting of Olyphant was an odd choice in casting. They could have easily found someone far better like Bateson, himself.

This film could have been really good.
