Ok, so I saw the theatrical version of this movie a while back, and I was seriously underwhelmed. This is mainly because the movie had no story, it felt more like a montage of Medieval violence.

But I just saw the DC of Kingdom of Heaven, and I just have to say, this movie is now a masterpiece. There are a number of new scenes, I don't know how much litteral time it adds to the movie, but I can say that there was a significant amount of the movie chopped. Basically, all the major points in the narrative were cut from the theatrical release.

So anyone who would like to view the DC and see what this movie was really supposed to be like, I recommend. It's fantastic

This is one of those movies that can be used as an example of what Studio interference and chopping, of a fantastic movie, does. The theatrical edition was a horrible piece of work, and should never have been allowed. It butchered a film that would have been praised.

So I recommend that you check out the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven, a peice of art, resurected from the absurd stupidity of studio re-edits.

A little more than 3 hours.

The director's cut is a great film. The kind we were expecting from Ridley Scott. There are so many documentaries and featurettes I still need to watch them all and I got the DVD last May.

yeah, it's really good. It actually has a STORY

it's about 3h10

Sibylla gets the most improvement, I think. Her descent towards the end of act II really makes sense.

Definitely a huge step up from the decent cut that was released in theaters.

hm, i might have to check this out. i wasnt too impressed with the theatrical cut....but i love ridley scott, so i'll give him a shot...

this cut was amazing. i only saw the director's cut, but my brother saw both and said the director's cut should have been the cut released in theatres

I agree the Dc should have been the one to be released in theaters. Everything makes a lot more sense, like why Godfrey came back to France, why Sybella was practially insane by the end, and why Balian knows so much that he is able to defend the Holy Land. The DC is a perfect example of the Ridley Scott I know and love.

totally, Balian isn't just some dude, he'd been to war, twice. They expanded his skill in engineering too, not only had he built all sorts of engines of war, but he was also shown as a super skilled metal worker, and construction worker through the building of a churc.

The stuff added to Sybilla is really what changed the movie, and made the plot make sense. The whole sequence with her son after the death of the king makes the story so much better. Yeah, she has a son (which wasn't in the theatrical cut).

Anyhow, of all the characters in the movie, Sidig Elfadil (i think, formerly Dr. Bahsir on startrek dS9), what an awesome character. Everytime he's on screen he is fantastic. There were really no added scenes with him, but his character rocks. Loved the dynamic between him and Balian, how in another world, these two could have been best of friends.
